To have this reissued in good sound quality in light of the recording itself and in stellar packaging? We are very fortunate. Thanks for the review! Originals are expensive.
I received my copy over a week ago and I agree with your detailed review . A very strong jazz set that gets better on repeated listens , good quality gatefold jacket and top sounding as well .
I'm eating it up. I wouldn't know quite how to describe the music, either, but I'd say it's exceptionally well recorded (very full and natural sounding -- especially through my old Fisher 500C tube receiver) and the vinyl seems quieter than even most Tone Poets I have.
This is a fantastic record. A great reissue. I listened to it back to back with bitches brew and it was an interesting combination. I think Blackstone is definitely more accessible for someone new to the genre. I absolutely love it. Great video.
I just got my copy. Glad I did. Another on of my favorite Woody albums is Rosewood but it's on Columbia/Sony who recently reissues very few jazz titles, especially in AAA vinyl.
Thanks for this very interesting video and information on the record. I am waiting it to arrive in my parisian record shop to get my copy. Great tunes on this record!
I have the yellow label orig but it wasn’t in pristine condition, so bought this reissue. Having listened to both copies, the original definitely outshines this reissue. It is a more open sound and the instruments are more upfront in the mix than on Bernie’s remaster here. Another online reviewer said that Lenny’s drums sounded a little subdued in the mix and I would agree. I think I would have preferred this new reissue to have been cut by Kevin Gray, as I think he could have made it sound just that little bit better, but Bernie Grundman does good work here. Don’t get me wrong now: this is a great and worthwhile reissue and it sounds great but my crackly original does sound much better. I’ll keep my OG because of that and I may keep the Craft remaster because it’s clean and quiet!
Many thanks for your review. I am really looking forward to finally hearing it myself. … not happy with Craft‘s service to Europe. 14 days after order confirmation of in-stock items it seems to be getting packed and shipped. Shipping costs have gone up substantially vs previous orders and announced lead time is way too long. Hope that it finally arrives at least undamaged.
Really exciting music but I’m Not sure I think it is the best sounding album. For a contemporary release, I find the horns very hot and almost distorting. I find the drums, bass, and piano much clearer and more detailed. I think Carter sits out on the title track.
I live in Europe and I bought a copy directly from Craft. So finally received it, after paying customs and substantial postage charges. Big seam split on cover. Craft advised they do not replace covers like AP do. Received 8 dollar refund but its disappointing. I expected more from Craft.

Cut by Bernie Grundman ("BG" on the deadwax). (but yes, the hypesticker says Kevin Gray).

Great record and reissue! Mine sounds fantastic.
Thanks for the recommendation. I am hunting for Solid from Woody Shaw, I hope it will be re-released soon.

Woody Shaw at Village Vanguard- a stellar live set

My copy hasn’t shown up yet but I’m very much looking forward to it. Glad to have you share your thoughts on it 🍻✨

Waiting for mine still but love your video. As a trumpet player I'll take any Shaw that gets a vinyl pressing. I've also never had this in any format.
Really exciting music but I’m

Just listening on UA-cam , I thought Woody’s horn was kinda hot with and edginess out front from everything else.

Just so you know, I don't have a problem with a 20 or 30 minute video.
its remastered 100% by Bernie Grundman not KG.
