Lenny White, glad to „meet“! Looks like a youngster, talks senior. Makes my records he‘s on so much worth listening to. Many thanks, Ken, for that great interview and rich content.
Lenny… The first time I saw RTF was at Hofstra University I think in the early 1970's and in one of your drum solos you finished with your last strike smacking a rim shot that ricocheted and spun about 10 to 15 rows out into the audience which was so damn cool! I'll never forget that.
Thank you thank you thank you for this wonderful conversation, thanks to both of you. What an absolute treat. You asked much better questions than most professional interviewers could have, and got more amazing insights and memories out of Lenny. Thank you!!!!
Great interview Ken, you must get him back on as Lenny’s stories are so interesting. And what a run for his first 4 recordings- Bitches Brew, Passing Ships, Red Clay and Blackstone Legacy. Wow 🔥🔥
I could listen to Maestro White tell stories about the amazing sessions he's played on for hours. What a legend. So glad he's still with us and out there playing, too. Here's hoping he continues to do so and feels good for many more years to come. Thank you, Mr. White.
Love every minute of this interview! Ken you need to do a follow up! Did nt know about his"oil drum "and I've been a long time fan! So much information! Did the Tony WIilliams anecdote was cut?
Fantastic interview with “Lenny The Legend.” I pre-ordered “Blackstone Legacy” and hoping one day, Milestone reissues “If You're Not Part of the Solution, You're Part of the Problem” album from The Lighthouse.” Same frontline with White holding down the beat!
That was a fantastic interview. Thank you so much for doing this. I have Blackstone Legacy, which is great but Red Clay is one of my all time favourites. I'm also a big fan of the Griffith Park Collection which I believe was Lenny White:s band. I think they made 3 albums altogether. Great stuff. Thanks again. All the best, Richard
It was great to hear Lennie White’s insights. I do wish we could have heard the full quote he was recalling from Tony Williams about being bound by gravity, and heard Lennie follow through on what that meant to him. Also, I read that for the Red Clay recording, Van Gelder didn’t like his oil can bass drum and talked him into using a house bass drum. In any case, he sounded fantastic on that record.
“The hype sticker included with this release has an error. It reads "All-analog mastering from the original tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio;" however, it was not mastered and cut by Kevin Gray. It was mastered and cut by Bernie Grundman per the deadwax.” Still sounds fantastic! Bernie Maupin is incredible on this album!
Best UA-cam jazz interview of.2023??? Well.done Ken!

Amazing guest. Love seeing talented drummers get some respect and exposure. Legendary career and true artist on the kit.

Thanks. I was a professional interviewer for 30 years. I guess it comes in handy somewhere.
Cannot believe he's 73 years old. He looks like he's 35.
Great interview Ken, you must get him back on as Lenny’s stories are so interesting. And what a run for his first 4 recordings- Bitches Brew, Passing Ships, Red Clay and Blackstone Legacy. Wow 🔥🔥
Wow. Fantastic to hear Lenny’s stories and takes on how the music was made.

Thanks. Some times when we had a really bad connection and it was just all gibberish. So I cut that.
This was an excellent interview. Thank you Ken!
Thanks for this! Saw Lenny at Dizzy`s with a sextet including Joe Lovano. Great show, amazing drummer. He looks really fit for a 73y/o.
Another important interview Ken, thanks! Lenny in the loft with Liebman, gross man and the avant- guards. Who knew?!😮
This is amazing! I just bought a promo copy of Red Clay and I can’t wait for it to come!
Been waiting for this one, made my day! Thanks for making it happen Ken and Lenny

Thanks, Ken. Great stuff.

Lenny White = American treasure
Thanks sooooo much for this! Love it!
Fantastic interview! Kudos to both you and Mr. White. I have enjoyed his work for decades.
Wow, Lenny looks fantastic for his age. Such an incredibly powerful and unique drummer, most memorably for me with RTF.
Great interview brother Ken with Lenny White, loved it 👍 👏🥁🎵🎶🎵 Eddie Valentin keep it swinging Ken !!!!

Wow what a legend. Lenny looks about 40!
Was his reference to "Left Bank", the Baltimore Left Bank Jazz Society which ZF has been pulling all of those great RSD releases?
I wonder that as well. I’ll do a follow up and ask him.
Good interview. Curious how Miles found Lenny for Bitches Brew.
why did you cut out the part where Lenny mentioned a master class w Tony Williams?
The interviewer her is terrible !
He constantly keeps interrupting Lenny and won't allow him to finish a sentence.
Just ask a question and shut up !
