    Soon as I got my eyes on what was in those racks I said out loud “MAN this guys knows”. Amazing taste my friend. I hope to own many of these very same units at some point down the line. Just filled my first 500 series rack and am looking at eventually getting a distressor as my first rack mount unit. Love love LOVE the Opticom. The XLA-500 version was my first hardware purchase after using the plugin for several years. Awesome set up man, keep rockin!

    🥳This is the longest video we've ever done and it could have technically gone another hour if we really dug into every piece. We'll be doing more auxiliary videos with the gear from the video so you can check it out. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    My home studio is completely wired so that whether its guitar, synth, or drum machine, I never have to touch cables in the rear... Everything can connect to anything on the desk.

    I just joined - love your videos. Straight forward, informative ..... well done! Subscribed! I am wondering what the best way to pick your brain about outboard gear? I am just starting the journey and wanted to see if you had an opinion the chasis? Email? I have an Apollo x4 and was looking at the Rupert Neve R10 with a samson patch bay? Or looking at the Cranborne Audio 500ADAT 8 channel (has patching and linking abilities)? OR the Black Lion PBR-8 - 500 Series 8-Slot Rack? Any help is so much appreciated - my first analogue outboard gear!

    Greetings. I have an Apollo x6 in my home studio. I produce music and record vocals with a Neumann 103 mic. Which pre amp would you recommend for R&B music? Thx in advance.

    Nice gear collection. I play drums and I want to setup a rack with mostly 500 series preamps, EQ´s and Compressors. I do research now. I want to monitor my drum set which I have mic´d up with 10 great mics with analog gear through an apollo x16 I want to have 10 analog 500 series mic preamps. I did not find any video how to implement the analog gear in UAD console software? Is it possible in console software to create a drum bus and route all the independent drum mics to the drum bus and then putting a 500 series outboard gear Bus compressor on it? How would be the latency for such a setup when playing live and monitoring live? I plan mostly analog gear instead of plugins. Maybe for tom EQ I will start with plugins. For outboard analog gear I plan 10 mic preamps, 1 compressor for kick and 1 for snare, 1 EQ for kick and 1 for snare. EQ for HiHat and for Left and Right Overheads. 1 Bus compressor and 1 Stereo EQ for the Drum Bus.

    Amazing! How is this all wired together though?? Do you go from the outputs of the Apollo down in some sort chain method through each of these pieces of gear?

    • @TheGearCage
      @TheGearCage  11 місяців тому

      Good question! I’ll make a video on this soon. The short answer is using the Flock Audio Patch which is a digital control/analog patch bay.
      It’s one of my favorite pieces of gear. I’ll go in-depth on it soon!

    Do you have a bus compressor.?

    • @TheGearCage
      @TheGearCage  9 місяців тому +1

      Good question! Not yet. With what I’ve been doing I focus on getting things great on the front end and sending things out for mastering. However, I’ve recently been laying the groundwork for a few pieces to come into the studio.
      I’m planning to add a RND MBP & GML 8200 next year. I just added an Avalon VT737, Shelford Channel and Burl B2 Bomber so I set the stage for that killer return ADC.

      @@TheGearCage On the ApolloX8 I send my main mix out of analog out 1+2 to my 500 titan rack via 1/4 to xlr cables and I return via xlr cables to 1/4 inch trs on line in channels 5+6 on the ApolloX8. Is there anything wrong with this routing? Do I need a dedicated interface to handle this?

  • @maddmarkmusic
    @maddmarkmusic 2 роки тому

    Can you tell about the routing

  • @billsmith2815

    Ryan, I love your setup! Do you mix and master through your rack and do you have a console or summing box?

    • @TheGearCage
      @TheGearCage  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! The current rig is for tracking and mixing. I use software from izotope if I’m mastering things or send off to mastering engineers.
      I don’t have a console in the rig right now, but I’m definitely contemplating it.

    What pre amp you have designated for bass guitar ?

    • @TheGearCage
      @TheGearCage  2 роки тому

      I actually use an ADesigns Reddi or Acme Motown DI for bass when going direct. If we’re mic’ing a cab I’ll use my Neve preamp!
