I'm trying to learn how to throw a ball so I can bond with my son. He likes baseball but has very few kids to play with due to the Big C. Awesome instructions that even I can follow. Turns out I'm not too bad. We are having fun. Thank you for the tips!
I am watching this because my softball coach gave us homework of going home and watching a youtube video on how to throw a softball 😃 🥎 nice video though!
Man this is the FIRST time I have ever heard do not crow hop! But it makes sense, especially in softball where the bases are closer and the game is faster because of that. Thank you.
Start the throw by turning your hips, keeping your shoulders and arm back for just a moment. The hips will turn the trunk and shoulders. The arm can now act as a whip. This will let you throw as hard as you want without hurting your elbow. This is the difference between using mostly just arm and using your whole body.
Im Starting to play again after 10 years. Im 28 now and defense was always my problem, Im gonna practice what you have shown in this vid and Im confident Im gonna play better then before !
I wouldn't mind a video on the actual motion of the throwing arm DURING the throw. I threw my elbow out chucking the ball to 2nd from the left field fence and I really need to learn to throw fast, powerful, and accurate
For outfielders, stepping behind is especially helpful for correcting the bad habit of not getting the shoulders fully aligned with the throw. If a player aligns their shoulders correctly, then stepping in front or behind is a matter of preference. Would like to see more discussion about the importance of correct follow-through, not just with the arm, but with the entire body. When throwing, many young softball players form a bad habit of throwing mostly with their arm. Lack of correct upper body follow-through will eventually lead to shoulder problems caused by stress induced on the rotator cuff as the arm decelerates. Proper upper body mechanics dissipates energy more efficiently after the ball is released and relieves rotator cuff stress. We commonly see this problem as girls progress into high school.
Definitely going to try these tips out. I've been playing 3rd base in my church league, but I'm left handed, so the motion of fielding and trying to get turned to throw the ball has led to inaccuracy. Hopefully I can use these tips to get better.
My daughter has been throwing side arm for years now playing tier 1 softball and coach wants her to throw over the top having a hard time breaking that habit what can I do to help??
1:22 yo I’m sorry but I’m a game you don’t really have time to find the right grip you gotta catch and throw you can’t look at the ball count the seams say oh that’s four and then throw bc then that person will prolly bc at home and they will score many points
It really only takes a millisecond to get a 4 seam grip, but make no mistake, if you don’t make the effort, you’ll never get efficient at it and it will lead to throwing errors eventually, especially if you’re playing with a lower seam ball or the ball is slick due to rain, moisture or cold temps. My favorite balls are Rawling Dream Seam! They give a nice high seam to really roll your fingers off of.
Yeah your not supposed to be counting the seams, but its kind of like pitching when you have your grip its kind of second nature and you grip it subconsciously, like by this point when I get a fastball sign I can easily get the grip without looking. Its all about FEEL. When you grab the ball your fingers will naturally go to the seams. If you just grab it, you can risk not making the ball reach and slowing down its momentum. Have a nice day
@@jre011 right… like ur boomer self can do better than me without pulling a muscle or breaking a hip… plus I’m actually good at softball thank you much! Don’t just start judging people.
No no no! You can learn to pull out a four-seam grip every time with a little practice. Every season, this is a challenge we give our middle school girls. They focus on it for a few days and soon they all do it automatically without thinking about it!
I’m a beginner softball player and this video helped me out a lot! Will be watching more.

Great job breaking it down simply.
When I’m throwing, it doesn’t take long before my elbow starts to inflame. Trying to find out if my mechanics suck or I’m seriously hurt

I need to know about the follow through and finish of throwing the softball please!
Helpful. Thanks
I already have a strong arm and a GREAT throw, But I'm getting into a habit of side arming again, So this video heled a lot.
Very well explained! Thank you so much!
Honestly I know like sing about softball but this was a great help
I wish more were getting this type of mechanics instruction. Lots of kids are being taught arms up and holding the ball over their heads.

How about pronation? I had no clue how to when I was growing up playing baseball.
arm motion mechanics? Good video

I would have to see her throw, but posture usually helps. More erect, eyes more level, should bring the arm up. Then lots of reps. Good luck!
Does it rlly matter if i don’t grab the seams?!
