I agree with briany42! I'm a guy who plays the flute/piccolo at my school and I love it! Don't let anybody/yourself tell you that your interpretation of the music is wrong!! Part of being a musician is the ability to interpret the music in your own way. The piece you perform then becomes a part of you because of your influence. Keep playing!!! =)
Oh Nina this is soooo beautiful! I want to be as beautiful as a player as you. Your inspire me to strive toward my dream of taking my pasion for the flute as high as it will take me!
No comments...I need Listen it again...increidible!!! I played this piece in my first concert...but there are some differents...This variation is wonderfull and it sound fantastic!!! Congratullations again, you're a fantastic flute-player
Part1) I just want to say that I've been watching your videos to help me learn more my instrument, as I can't really afford a teacher. I find your videos insightful and amazingly helpful.
Thank you for such a wonderful video this is one of my favorite song which i hope to be able to play for college senior recital. I love that the fact you played with a rose that is very hard to do bravo thank you !!!
Of all the music I've listened to, I really like Carmen (coincidentally my mum's name and the first music we played in our small youth orchestra). Also, seeing you perform the music sheet I whimly bought out of a music shop is just a wonderful surprise. I must say, my jaw just dropped at your amazing technique...
Brings back a lot of memories though I've never heard this fantasy before. Carmen has a special place in my heart as it does for most figure skating fans. I really enjoy this performance, 1:35 in particular is really nice!
Beautiful! I'm playing this piece for my recital next month and your interpretation has given me some great ideas! I particularly liked the rose. Never seen a flutist do that before! Again, beautiful playing.
I'm a flute Major in college, and after seeing this, I ordered the piece asked my professor if it could be my solo for next semester. I just got on break so I'm about to start really focusing on it. You play it so well, I wanted to play it :)
Encore! Very good articulation and expression. You really put a lot of air into that little flute! lol And the pianist was great too ^_^ Great all around!
Wow, great performance! I've been looking around for awhile for a recording of this piece so I could have something to go off of. The 1st Variation was slower than I thought... but I can see why it is. Can't wait to play this. Thanks again! :D
In school, my teacher actually advised me to move more while performing solos. I would stand lifeless on stage and it shows more expression when you move your body while playing!
Hi Pauly Pauly Paul. I agree the piece gets a little long and the last page is so much fluff which is why I do my little rose trick. I too have played the ending up the octave but when I have a rose in my mouth I usually keep it to E3! You should upload a video of you playing it and post it as a video response to this video.
Really good flute work. I play flute, or did before my accident. I'm working on regaining it. Have you ever heard Emma, the child flutist? She is AMAZING! Regard, Gummug
this is amazing. i have the music to this song, and i haven't been able to play the whole thing yet. one day hopefully i'll be as good as this person. :]
oh the fun memories of marching band!!! getting run over by people while marching, forgetting music while the judge is next to you, the fast tempos...I really did like this show my freshman year!!
Very intresting arrangment. I personaly like Ransoms Wilson version because its really fast, has flutter, and has a really, really high E at the end. This version was pleasent too.
Nice idea for the ending. I try not to do anything TOO fancy at the very end since I am playing with a rose in my mouth (yes, IN my mouth). Thanks for watching.
It is important that your lips and the flute be at a 90 degree angle so if your head tilts to one side, the flute will tilt, too. If you hold your head (lips) perfectly straight the flute will be perfectly straight.
This is a great song, this is the best interpretation I've heard so far, especially a live one! do you think you could upload a video of the concertino by chaminade? I like that song a lot :D
especially if you're doind a solo, it's fine to move with the music. I'm playing Carnival of Venice for Solo and Ensemble this year, and it looks terrible if I just stand completely still, because the music is so light and playful.
could you please tell me how to practice note jumps! I really need to play from low to high notes without cracking the sound or making it feel forced! thanks!
I did play the entire piece in this concert, but youtube has a 10 minute time maximum on videos, so I started the video at the habanera to keep the video under 10 minutes!
Does anyone know where I can buy the sheet music for this version that comes with an accompaniment CD??? I don't have anyone who could play the piano part, but I really want to play this piece.
I finally could stand it no longer and made an account so I can tell you what an inspiration you are to me! That being said, I have a question; The embellishment you perform at 5:17 - is that a trick of breathing or super-human-speedy fingers? Because it's probably the most mind boggling thing I've ever heard someone do on a flute : ) Respond please!
Also, the way the sparkle of light traveled up and down the length of the flute at the end, was a very nice touch.
Nina, you are the best, you play and teach beautifully well.
Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful! Love it! Bravo! You are the best flute player in the whole world! Again, Bravo!
isnt this just the cutest piece in the world? lol
you have a lovely warm tone!
i cannot stop watching this one. it is my favorite one out of all of your videos. you sound soooo perfect.
so beautiful and elegant the lady with the flower and the sound !
Fabulous! What a tone!!! She dances with her flute! Magic... and piano is wonderful...

Beautiful Nina! I played this piece many years ago for my performing arts concert. You have brought back wonderful memories.
Of all the music I've listened to, I really like Carmen (coincidentally my mum's name and the first music we played in our small youth orchestra). Waaa Fantastic!!! you are my idol... i'm serious you are the greatest flutist i've ever see
That's the most exciting version of that piece I've ever heard. I so want to try it :p
I love this composition. I am playing it to for my winter 07 but I am playing the Ransom Wilson Arrangment.
I love how you play this, Nina- it is nice to hear the habanera played so sensually but I like it to move a bit more as it progresses- Jane Rutter
je reviens très souvent!

Wow, great performance! I've been looking around for awhile for a recording of this piece so I could have something to go off of. The 1st Variation was slower than I thought... but I can see why it is. Can't wait to play this. Thanks again! :D

Wow..Congragulations! it's sound is really awesome
i've just decided to play Habanera in my next flute concert =)
In school, my teacher actually advised me to move more while performing solos. I would stand lifeless on stage and it shows more expression when you move your body while playing!
THIS IS MY FAVORITE!!
AMAZING TONE.
Beautiful!!!

Hello. Thanks for your comments. I play a Burkart flute, silver with platinum riser.

I wonder if I could do this for my solo next year! It might be a little on the hard side.. but hey! ~ Maybe on piccolo ^_^
