If Bottas did indeed deliberately take out both Red Bulls,the he should have been voted driver of the day. Not for causing the incident but more for his magnificent geometric perfection. It would take a very intelligent man to perfect such an incredible series of events.

He should be the driver of the day for such genious plan to slow down both Red Bulls, so Hamilton could have easier time getting points compared to Verstappen from this race.
Not really though. He rammed the car in front across any cars that were going to turn into the corner and he torpedoed which RBR was not hit by the guy who he launched into the fray. He could not miss really.

Thats what I was looking for here. Also in the episode Yuki was immediately P6 per radio call and commentary. Shows how much stuff is added later but should look like real in race audio.

What made this race special:

- Second podium for Vettel;
- Bottas playing bowling;
- Hamilton lonely start;
- Alonso stop's Hamilton from the win;

This race had it all, heartbreak for most of the top field, non stop action to watch, incredible defensive driving and overtakes from multiple drivers, new first time winner who had to work for it, outside of a title decider I can’t think of anything else I would have wanted from an F1 race.

Very reminiscent of Imola 2005, when Alonso fought his heart out to keep Michael behind in a 3-4 second faster Ferrari. Probably the best wheel-to-wheel racer of this decade.
I cannot imagine how much Fernado could do in a Mercedes car...

Ocon drove a fantastic race but if due to luck ( which is the reason ocon got the lead in the first place ) you had put alonso in the lead he would have won too. Actually, his pace in free air was better than ocon's and even saved him from Hamilton. That doesn't mean ocon didn't deserve the win. He drove very well. It is just that Alonso was faster. Well done to both drivers.

That solo start by HAM has to be the funniest I've seen in my 40 years of watching F1. The record was the 6 cars to start the 2005 US race.

I’m new to following F1- what does this mean?
@@Sarahthompson2237 It was a mistake by Mercedes team / driver to not come for tires suitable for driving on a surface that had dried (they all had tires for damp track on) for the restart, all the other drivers did and so they start from the pit lane while Hamilton was on the actual grid. It just looks really funny because usually 20 cars line up on the grid but because of a weird set of circumstances (Red Flag / Race stopped because of Crash and track drying during the stoppage) only one car was on the grid.

Even now he overtook because of his mistake. Bu t Alonso showed some serious moves until then. These are old generation era. Nobody is doing it now.

It was honestly a defunct brand, but I think 1 or 2 years ago, Renault got a new CEO who wanted to bring back the Alpine brand. They do sell thier sporty cars under the Alpine brand now, no idea if they are in North America though.

@@Marceloloeite this was an actually the only right choice. Lewis was leading the race, he couldn't figure out how many drivers pitted or not. If he would have pitted and everybody stayed out of the pits then he would be the last and otherwise if he would not pit and stay outside like in the race he had bigger chances to win the race.

Well, I get it that it's a shame for Vettel, but one was a driver error, the other is a violation of a rule that exists to prevent cheating. Hence the severity of the penalty.
That hamilton-alonso battle must be up there for one of the best battles of the season so far, maybe even of the last few seasons actually.

Alonso's stellar defense was enough entertainment for the whole race, he was extremely aggressive yet also fair. I told my father that the only way Hamilton would pass him is if Alonso were to make a mistake. About 4 laps later that's exactly what happened with the Turn 1 lockup.
The question is why he made that mistake. The response is simple, it was impossible for him to held LH behind until the last lap, too much pressure, that is why his concentration fell on the brake.
It's called pressure, couldn't handle it. 😁
He's the only one that could achieve that many laps defending from Hamilton with that car and that tires.

Those 4 laps were probably the most exciting 4 laps on any race I'd ever seen! It was like watching fighter jets dog fight.
