Hours is my absolute favorite despite disregard from most fans. BBC Theater presents unique performances of Bowie's classics. Wild is the wind is the greatest!

@D D Day esq There are only two albums out of Bowie's back catalogue that I avoid, 'Never Let Me Down' and Tin Machine II. Although I'm fine with Time Will Crawl, and Baby Universal...Goodbye Mr Ed. I had no time for Hours, so to speak, but gave it another go years later, and quite like it. Tony Viscounti thought it a welcome return to song craft and in that sense it presaged Heathen. It actually combines two different projects: the video game and songs that suggest narrative concepts and a hint at nostalgia - in line/keeping with 'Toy'.

Toy is better than most critics state. The versions are superb (oh that rickenbacker guitar!) - I would have preferred it above Heathen; its more vital, has more light in it. It shows that Bowie always, from the beginning till the end was a good songwriter. Buddha I don't know, but 1.Outside is my favorite post RCA album.

Yes, and the early Bowie is hugely underrated. it's wierd in my view, because I first heard Bowie with Ziggy, in'72' then Aladdin Sane, which I still think are his 2 best albums and really can't top. However,Hunky Dory,, Space Oddity, Man Who Sold The World are overrated, mainly mediocre, esoteric and strange to my ears,,his best early songs beat the hell out of most of it like, In The Heat of The Morning,Let Me Sleep Beside You, Can't Stop Thinking About Me, Karma Man, Do Anything You Say, London Boys, Silly Boy Blue great stuff etc. Next Day, and Blackstar I much prefer to those, and Low is terrific,,Black Tie,,Reality ,and Heathen are all solid good albums. Hours was more mediocre. as I've never heard Earthling,Budda Of Suburbia, or Outside.Just picked this massive set up.

I can say that listening to David Bowie are a teenager in the early seventies was incredible. I still cannot explain the feelings I had when I listened to Life on Mars and Drive in Saturday for the first time, it was like he was from another world. Hunky Dory, The Rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars plus Station to Station have been three of my favourite albums of the last nearly Fifty years. Closely followed by the Berlin trilogy albums and the magnificent Scary Monsters. I have loved him all my life and his music is the soundtrack to my life. Blackstar…how is it possible to create such an album right at the end of your life, knowing that you time is nearly over. I never met David but he was always with me and I cried when I heard that he had died. I am so jealous of your box sets, enjoy.

I can totally relate to how you feel Paul As Iv loved Bowie as far back as I can remember as I discovered him going into adolescent years .He made those of us who felt different or alone .Less alone .His music spread across many.decades and was the soundtrack of our life's.I was lucky enough to have seen him in concert twice many years apart and he just got better. Two highlights of my life.I even had small tattoo which simply says Bowie ,after he passed .I'm still coming to terms with fact that his no longer with us but what a legacy he left for us to all enjoy .

    Nice treaty Michael
Especially for those who want a complete Bowie set of vinyl boxsets
These years didn’t reach me enough except for Next Day and Black Star
A couple of killer live release side releases
And I have nearly all the others lps in this set which were released in the last 15 years
So a cd box works for the non completist
The apex of his career 69-79
The UK Original first pressings are without peer
Hard to find clean copies, or affordable. But so worth it
Thanks Michael for bringing light to one of the Pantheon Artists in music
Bowie is my favorite artist - still not over his passing

The Toy tracks were mostly released in their original form as single when David Bowie was in various unsuccessful groups back in the 60's. I think the track "Shadow Man" is one of the only ones that was written back in his youth, but never got released.
This boxset certainly looks amazing, but I was a hardcore Bowie fan in the 90's and bought all those limited edition LP's, 12" singles and 7" singles. I even own Earthling which only got a very limited UK pressing.
I'll wait until Buddha Of Suburba is separately released, as that is al the I am missing. It's brilliant and I only have the cassette ✌️

    Bowie = magic.
Sidestepping the cost implications (which is the main reason why I won't be buying this box), however, I'm interested in how much time you spend listening to music per day/week? Five hours per day, less/more? Do you listen end-to-end, or focus on the previously unreleased material? I struggle to find time to get intimately acquainted with what I buy, which is a fraction of your purchases!

Very excited for this box set - has to wait until I pay off this Holiday Season so, next month.
Very impressed with the Visconti remix of 'Lodger' included with the 'New Career... ' box set. I picked up 'Metabolist' too - not as dramatic a change, but I enjoyed it none the list. As a young teen I 'liberated' my sisters cassette tape of 'Stage' and played it into the ground - loved the the 3x LP remastered/re-sequenced version (had it on CD for a few years.)
Just made it through listening to 4th box set from the '80s releases - it has moments, IMO, but would have been happier with it had I bought it on discount last summer when Amazon had it on mark down, but I'm fickle and had to talk myself into buying it to begin with.

I think I have about 40 new records that I haven’t listened to yet. And I most certainly doesn’t have time to go back and listen to a record that I already have listened to once. So I stopped buying his albums in the 90s. Heard some of Black Tie and Outside which did not lead me to change my mind. So a review of the actual lps here would be nice. I brought 3 of these on some Chinese site for $36 each they are exactly the same as the ones that cost $400+ the only fault is the Spines of the albums aren't as "sharp" they are a bit sloped (that is not a racial slur that is a description of their state).

This is absolutely true. I happened to be discussing that Absolute Beginners video an the part where he kicks the little shrub as he's strolling through suburbia. One of the funniest comments I have read on yt is there in the comments where someone remarks " David Bowie, the coolest shrub kicker, ever" ( maybe I have a strange sense of humour? I make no apologies lol) Anyway, I was talking about all this, the Movie, T
the drama serious Hanif Kureshi etc when this guy appeared in front of us walking his thin whippet dog ( we were in a local park) I vaguely recognised him , but as he came closer, I just couldn't believe the coincidence! It was only one of the main stars of the TV series Bhudda Of Suburbia , actor Steven Mackintosh who played Charlie Kay. I had to say something to him and it turned out he lives not too far from us, an was a decent guy too.

David Bowie war ein begnadeter Sänger. Das Boxset sieht grandios aus. Würde ich mir gerne mal anschauen.

Saw Bowie on the Earthling tour at a theater in Detroit, close to the stage-amazing. Never heard Toy and Buddha albums, so I’ll seek them out when individually available. For some reason, Buddha has never been highly rated. This is the first time I’ve heard anyone say it’s great. Hmm…

I'll give it to Bowie's Estate. Unlike the fools running Michael Jackson's Estate, Bowie's group is doing an awesome job. I'll bet Bowie's single album releases from this box next year will be gatefold!!

So TOY wasn't released in 2001 because Bowie's record company EMI/ Virgin did not want to release it. I guess they thought it wasn't commercial enough. Bowie dropped EMI and sign the following year with Columbia Records (and released Heathen next). So TOY was officially released last month and what it shows is that , man, did this guy have talent to burn! However, for me nothing beats druggy Bowie from the 70's but this late (ish) material is loaded with gems. Huge fan of Earthling. Outside is a bit spotty and BBC Live really doesn't do it for me. If you heard Bowie's birthday concert at MSG in NYC in '96 you'd hear a powerhouse rendition of a lot of the BBC material- among others the band comprised Billy Corgan, Dave Grohl and Lou Reed. But wait, there's more! I just bought a 3 cd compilation at Bowie 75 in NY of remixes of some late work by people like Tony Visconti, Pet Shop Boys, James Murphy etc. (also contains Toy songs and other collaborations as well). Extraordinary artist, shame he couldnot be here to celebrate his 75th birthday next month........sadly his good friend the great photographer Mick Rock passed away two weeks ago............."There's a little bit of magic in everything and some loss to even things out" - Lou Reed.
