I like having this as my EDC. I don't have any specified use for it aside from simply having a knife and a few tools when in a pinch. I love how they have the knife as the primary use which is why i bought it. I agree with the price point, but I was fortunate to get a discounted price which was the push to buying. Only had it for 4 months, but have had no regrets so far.
Great review - mine has been used a lot so far. Blade a joy to use. Lock up very safe. Crosshead screwdriver is like using a purpose built screwdriver.
420 HC may not be top notch in edge retention.. but I'm telling you this, properly heat treated 420hc takes a edge that's truly scary... I mean screaming sharp... An couple that with this blade shape and that deep hollow grind being thin behind the edge... I imagine this thing could be an absolute laser beam... Also the shape lends to easier sharpening too... I'm not a super fan of 420hc, but on this super thin slicey blade... It's probably a great choice for it's toughness.. vs something like s30v.being that thin would worry me...... I'm gonna pick one up
Four years later and I’m still using mine every week. The flathead cracked. (Forcing open a stubborn paint tin) But apart front that it’s doing good. Needs regular sharpening. But that’s not a chore.
Cheers Dion. Been getting into my EDC stuff recently. Picked up a cool new Olight today. May review that if I have time. Nice to have stuff on you that makes life easier etc.
Dion Britten it’s their new “perun”. Bit diff with the lens at 90degrees. But I like it. Snaps into head strap like a head torch if needed. And very bright. (I can see it bottom left on the table here, just arrived)
Ehhhh, I think 420 is a decent choice for the blade here.. it's deeply hollow ground and very very thin behind the edge... Alot of those super steels need more support behind the edge because they have a tendency to be brittle.. I wouldn't mind seeing 154cm though
Oh, not good. But good to know. I still use mine almost every day. And it’s still working well. Although the edge has changed profile a fair bit due to my fairly frequent sharpening. (Not the strongest steel)
@@biscuitsalive diamond sharpener is what i found that works the best. for 420hc my other 420hc knives really like 22 degree angles wont get razer sharp but will be more durable an sharp
Send that mfer back to Leatherman.. it shouldn't have chipped doing that.. 420hc is durable and I suspect you got a blade that either A - got a bad heat treatment, or B - got over heated during grinding or sharpening. Either way Leatherman has a killer 25 year warranty, and I'd take advantage of it
what a piece of hot garbage this blade is. on mine the blade lock will not engage, there were tool marks on the paint. Saw marks were still visible (and tactile) on the sides of the tools. You can't get the tools open without sticking your thumb under the package opener blade.. so I filed that dual after slicing my thumb a few times.
Depends on your job / reason. When I’m teaching kitesurf we need a decent lockable knife to cut lines / webbing and equipment in emergencies. And the drivers I use all the time for fins / harnesses. But yes. Without good reason you can’t carry this in UK. I’ve got mates who work in forestry, they carry chainsaws and much more dangerous equipment every day. So it really does depend if you have good reason to carry it. Legally speaking.
I would have made a impulse buy again... if it had better steel.... s30v or something equivalent. 420hc is horrible steel edge is gone in no time.... Ive learned my lessons if you dont know about knife steels go learn....

I still carry mine nearly every day.
It gets used several times a week.
Very handy.
Pretty solid review! I’ve been looking into this tool for a little while now. And I’m still wanting it lol.

Yep. Over a year later since I made this. The thing is still in my pocket most days.

I just got one, seems like good quality!

Leatherman's blade geometry on the hollow grind is amazing. Slices and pierces very well.
great review. production quality is awesome, nice lighting and decor
thanks, i still keep this tool on me every day, super useful!
I love this multitool... awesome blade too...
Excellent and comprehensive review. Thanks!
It looks very well build and i thinks it's good that the knife is big. Other wise why would you upgrade from a wingman.
Pretty nice dude good collection you have there.
Cheers Dion.

I hate that they discontinued the c33. It’s literally perfect

Good review.
Great review! Thank you :)
Is there a knife similar you would recommend over this? Even just a knife this size, without multitools.
There are a lot of really good pocket-knives in this size and shape. It really depends on how much you're looking to spend?
Do you know which Leatherman sheath this would fit into?
Nice review 👍
Overpriced in the uk? in nz its 230??
Very nice knive, but i dont like the 420C steel , i would prefer a CPM or M390

how did you open it so easily
Instead of a Swiss Army knife should we call it an America army knife?
Except the k2 is MILES ahead of SAK
Swiss Army knives are a joke and only carried by people in retirement homes
