- 🍋 I'm an empty nester and living alone during the many lockdowns of the last years made me realise how much I needed to be out in the world again so I went back to work.... BUT was it a mistake?
Today I chat about the pros and cons of my new life and I make a quick dinner in my new Air Fryer

It was a big decision but something I needed to try. Now that it's been more than a month I thought it was time for an update on how it's working out for me. 🍋
Thanks for "checking in" with us. I wondered how it was going for you. I'm glad to hear you are managing the challenge.
I’m 70 now but a year ago I got a job delivering chicken for Chick fil A. Three hours a day 4 days a week. I am still loving it and all my very young coworkers.
I think it is so great you are at a job where there are young people to connect with. But also, I think it is a place where you could gain so much knowledge about the kinds of questions less tech-y people ask about technology. And then you can turn those questions into videos for us too! Or begin a new channel for that? In any case, I'm excited to learn how you will accommodate your new schedule and what tips you can give to us, with planning, even when we work from home. Also, any new makeup tips? - I still use the Charlotte Tilsbury products I saw in one of your videos! Enjoy those autumn days!!!
So nice to see you, Deirdre. And very pleased to hear you're liking your new job. I miss you but I understand that you need to parcel out your time in ways that work best for you. I'll continue to enjoy and watch whenever you post! Take good care. Blessings from California XXX
You are a perfect example of assessing your life and being willing to entertain the idea of change. For too many of us, ALL CHANGE IS BAD. Realizing that isn’t true and being willing to change our path can be so freeing. Didn’t say it was easy, but in the end the question needs to be “is it worth it?” Take care of yourself, hoping your son and family come back soon, enjoy the cooler weather.
Hi Deirdre! You have a lot on your plate- managing a home , taking care of yourself, working a routine job each day and finding time for family and friends! It takes time to adjust I am sure. I have watched your videos a long time and still enjoy.very much. Keep up the good work!! 😉
Hello yes we missed you, can't wait to see if you enjoyed it!
Good to see you again Deirdre, and hear that things are going well.
Your comments really resonated with me as I took a job with co-workers in their teens and twenties, but customers of all ages. I got such a lot working with younger people, after a career with colleagues in the same age bracket as myself. It's always good to try a new challenge 😊. And air fryers are fab 🤣
My air frier is the same size as yours. I really like mine.
Wow! So good to know you are enjoying returning back to work. I actually applied for another similar job what I used to do, but, I guess I wasn't good enough for them! It took me 2 years before I finally was comfortable at retirement! It's been almost 11 years now and life is great in my retirement years.
Good to see you again! More updates about how you're balancing you new job and personal time would be greatly appreciated! Salmon and peas looks yummy! Take care...
I appreciate your organization. We have moved from Chicago to Houston. We love it. I am 69 got a teacher/librarian job. I love the students and the reengagement. I can’t seem to get organized the way you are. I loved this cooking for dinner and lunch video. Hope you do more. It’s so important to stay healthy.
Don't know the best way to connect, so here we are. Hoping you are figuring out how to balance your life with work, new family and personal issues. Always miss seeing you but YT has to fit in comfortably into this new season. I am dealing with a new season too. We had a house fire in April which will mean our 150 yo house will need to be taken down. Very sad, but nobody was injured which is the main thing. Now, decluttering has taken on new meaning. My context now is "might I need this thing?" as we explore what rebuilding will look like. Hoping you are doing well as you fall settles in. Take care.
Hello Diedre 👋 This was a lovely update. I'm happy that you're enjoying your new career. You're looking well! I wonder if you've thought of working part time or if that's an option for you. I have thought about returning to work but not full time and not at my previous career. The salary would be much more but I'm finished with that field of work unless something changes. For now, Im exploring retirement. Im struggling with having unstructured time and being more sedentary. I am giving myself time to explore and create a routine that works.
Glad to see you and I like hearing what you're up to!! Take good care ❤
Hi Deidre! We are still sitting with snow on the ground, and snow is forecast for every day for the next week. The temperature is about 10°C lower than ‘normal’. It’s the winter that never ends! 😩 Your autumn weather looks wonderful!
Glad you are enjoying your job, but don’t overdo it! Have missed you! I have made a fairly decent dent in my decluttering process….still have a ways to go though. It’s a daily process.
Lovely to see you again Deirdre.
I have missed you!
Damp, cold and rainy in Chicago area. I’ve been thinking of a part-time job. I said “never” when I retired. 🤣 Glad you are doing well.
It sounds like we have the same weather today... it's grey and miserable here as well. 🌧 I'd love to hear what you decide about a part time job. It's definitely been a good move for me but I'd like to have a more regular schedule so I'm working on that. Let me know what you decide and thanks for watching ☀
Hi Deidre. I asked on another video about your new apartment about how your long term illness was going (leukaemia) because you don't go on about it and your answering here. You are very inspiring! many people would use that as an excuse to not do anything. and you are so productive. have a great week.
Hi Deirdre, Thanks for your insight on going back to work. I haven’t left for the first time yet, but plan on retiring within the year from my career in higher education. I am already thinking about how to spend my additional time. Always look forward to your videos. So glad your new venture is working out well.
Glad you are enjoying your job. I have been very busy in retirement, I don't know how I used to have time to work so much. We did always have side jobs of fixing up houses though and I get the urge to do another one. I don't know if that means move out of the one we just fixed up and are living in or buying an investment. When ever we get done with one we start looking around, it's a sickness. 7 year itch I guess, we just can't seem to live in a done house for long.
Hi, it's lovely to see you again, I'm so happy for you going back to work is a big step, after the last two years of covid my daughter is back working, she used the time off to retrain and now is working with people with mental health issues instead of care home work,I'm so proud of her but scared too as covid is still just as real. Stay safe my friend.💖
I'm glad you are still filming even though you've gone back to work. I so enjoy your channel. You have convinced me to do it too. I have several trips planned which will depleat my play money so I will get a job as soon as my travel ends in Nov. Of course to fund more travel!
Deirdre, I'm glad to know that you'll continue with your UA-cam channel. I really enjoy your videos. I'm waiting to hear if I've been hired by a local university's catering department to be a banquet server. I have mixed feelings; I could certainly use the money and I need to be out and among people again, but at the same time I've really enjoyed the past year and a half that I've not been working. I'm only 57 though, so I guess I should get back to work. But I keep having an internal debate. Anyway, I enjoyed your video and am so glad for your that you found such an interesting and helpful job.
Glad to see you again
Hi ya! Always good to see you!
Hi Deirdre happy to see you back could you please tell me where you got your small air fryer from as l also am on my own l think it be nice to give it a try,
Thanking of you! Hope to see you back very soon thank you and take care xx
I love to see your shopping. You are so organized❤️
Hi Deidre Thankyou for your video , now I know what an air fryer can do and how it works!
Missing your videos! Nice to see you!
Great to hear you are enjoying being back at work. Obtaining a good work/life balance can be tricky when working full time so it is wonderful to see you are back making the time for the things you love. Keep doing the things that make your heart sing.
I love my air fryer! The grands like to make fries and no oil is wonderful. I am trying to retire. Selling the big house was the best choice. It was just such a big job and the settling into the new place takes time. I am still making to do lists. Have a great week.
💖
I hope you are still enjoying your air fryer.
How did you make the mushy peas?
missing you where are you xxxx
