Can anyone explain the collision rules on the monkeys? I’m playing it at my local arcade right now, and I can’t work out why sometimes they kill me and sometimes don’t.
Oh, it's offensive, was it? I'm curious how you think a member of an African tribe should be depicted. Would you not have drawn them as brown? Or as not throwing spears? Remember, depicting the members of an African tribe inaccurately would also be considered offensive by many, as would choosing not to depict them at all. Was the depiction of Jack offensive?
how about they just not depict African people as an enemy in the first place? congo bongo managed to be set in in africa without having any shitty racism in it
Plus the game just generally sucks. Literally no need to have them as an enemy. The name of the game is Jumping Jack... not Exploring Africa. Completely irrelevant and unnecessary. Racist and tacky even without retrospect. Maybe if this were, say, a real tribe but that's not even the case lol. Bad game all around. I'll stick with Mr. Do's Wild Ride :)
Never saw this game back in the day. Great animation and graphics.
I played it all the time
looks fun and aggravating. nice music. Slightly reminds me of Congo Bongo

Those monkey deaths are pretty brutal. That on top of the caricatures this arcade game has more balls than chiller lol
Pool
Rrr thy poo
What happens when you cross Congo Bongo with Mr. Do's Wild Ride.
Well...it has the letters one must light up to get an extra life, like Mr. Do!
Most Universal games often did that.
@@ChristopherSobieniak Right, and I think the first two to do so were Lady Bug and Snap Jack.
From the developers of 'Mr. Do!'. It's 'Jumping Jack'.
What program do you use to record games off MAME? Or do you just record straight from said emulator?
This was recorded straight directly from MAME's AVI output.
Oh, I see. Thanks!!
In retrospect, the spear-chucking "Masakari" tribe members are about as stereotypical an offensive sprite as you'll find on an arcade cabinet.

@@pbrninja19 the weird eye movement, the weird mouth and the general racist depiction.
Do you think you could open a blank 16x16 (or whatever) sprite and draw an African character that somebody wouldn't call racist?
