Compact, well built and I like the magnet. Wish someone would make a super steel utility blade that was meant for sharpening to go along with these high end tools.
The EAB does, in fact, disappear in a coin pocket. Unless you're just a titanium nut or a fit and finish stickler (I'm guilty on both counts), the EAB is an unquestionably better value than the TPT or the RUT. Between those two, I'd take the TPT over the RUT even if they were both the same price. Slimmer, lighter, shorter (so it fits even better in a coin pocket), and doesn't rattle. The RUT offers nothing beyond what the TPT has except Rexford's name and a bit more exclusivity because it's so pricy. The sheath is also surprisingly nice for something that comes stock with the item, though the included blades are a little silly. I guess it makes it easier to sell abroad without a sharp blade.
Personally, I think the eab is a better tool to throw in a bag or I keep one in my toolbox, but these are pocket tools that people would put on their keys instead of a stand alone blade. I love the fact that they pry and have a cap lifter, which are really the only two pocket tool features I find useful.
Even the EAB I wouldn't carry as a primary. If you carry a nice (or just nicely sharpened) knife, all these things fulfill the role of "abuse sponge" to spare the better tool by using a disposable blade, without adding lots of mass or headache to an EDC.
I don't have either but I'd probably go with the RUT, a small rattle with something thats in my pocket 90% of the time wouldn't bug me, though the magnet is a cool idea. Cool review man, thx for the info, later....
these are pretty awsome little edc tools. i found a similar titanium shell design that fits the olfa blades that you reviewed earlier on dhgate they ran like 130$ same as the rut
Juan Rodriguez Yes, I was able to find them on dhgate. The item in question requires you to buy five of them at a time, they won't sell singles. I can't find the item anywhere other than dhgate, meaning that there's really no way to buy it without buying four extras.
As Nutnfancy would say, these are all about second kind of cool. You're buying something cool that is also a box cutter instead of a box cutter that is cool looking. People buy these because they want them and THEN they justify all the stuff it can do.
Bought a TPT Slide (version 2.0) on Kickstarter. One handed opening/closing PLUS no rattle makes it technically superior and half the price of a RUT. Incredible value. Yes, Rexford did basically invent the category, so, points to him.
Got a question for u. Need to pimp a Curtis F3 midtech. Need the inside of the handles heavilly milled out since it is too heavy for me. Can u do that? First need to get my hands on a F3 but just looking to see if it can be done before i buy it
are your books still closed? I have a Kiser S.L.T. I want pimped by you and might have something you have been interested in for trade for the job. thinking spyderco paramilitary 2 in M4 blade steel? let me know if your interested. thanks for getting back on the posting game missing your videos.
How they get the price down is taking a much lower profit margin than the rexford. Titanium is expensive sure. But the rexford is nowhere near 140$ in titanium. Not even close
I dont think it was a dumb buy though as long as the resell stays decent. Say you buy a 30$ boxcutter that you cant resell or a dollar in 3 years. Compared to paying 140 and selling it for 100 in a year. Ya you lost 10$ over the 30$ boxcutte but you also had a luxorious boxcutter for 3 years.
No, they make it China from non certified ti. They have minimal R&D because they just reverse engineered something else. And spent most of their money attempting to patent it. Which is weird in and of itself.
Fair enough, but personally, if I bought something it would be because I wanted to keeping. I've never made a purchase thinking I'll sell it not long down the line. To each their own, though. I'm sure some people enjoy having many different things but only for short amounts of time.
I get magnets work great for 80% of people but it's terrible for people that work with metal. Grinding dust get on your tool then I'm it gets in pocket. Not for me.

Interesting little cutting tools. Hadn't looked at them much before.
I really like my B.I.D TPT. I take it every were I go. I really like that it comes with a very nice case also.

Thanks for showing us. Personal opinion, I will not pay $30 of my money for both of them combined.
Why there is not Ti on the tpt and why the sheet looks like shit?

Those are pretty neat. Shame there's a five piece minimum order. Can't seem to find them anywhere else.
look for titaniumcompany its somewhere in there store

I love my TPT. It's awesome.
Thanks for the comparison

What is a good place or website I can get quality replacement blades? All the ones i pick up become dull very quick
or what is a good brand?
Lenox Gold are very highly regarded. Amazon has them for cheap, especially in bulk
+cloudcleaver23 Thank you ill try em out
For that kind of money you'd think they would get the tolerances better.

Gerber EAB I carry everyday in the masonry field never had a problem w it! $9
is that a custom finish on the rut or from the maker
look at Tactical Keychains TUKK, $60 for titanium $30 for aluminum
Always dropping the knives
So this is a review about two overpriced boxcutters, and why you prefer one overpriced boxcutter over the other overpriced boxcutter?

Can you double nuke my spyderco K2?

I can see where that'd get irksome. I wonder how easily you can yank the magnet out.
I'm only 5 min in but I already bought a tdt
ITS Tactical Has Them
