I have lived in USA Canada Delhi Hyderabad and Punjab and I admit that Punjab has worst form of racism by sikhs for the sikhs , we cut our beards just to avoid racism in Punjab. Very Right Simaranjit Singh. i have also passed through this bulling by jat class mates for not being jat. This type of behavior is very common in sikh society. Even SGPC Ex president late s. Avtar singh Makkar was also abused by Sukhbir badal by saying BHAPPA. Panth Rattan Master Tara Singh's image also tarnished by this dominating lobby only because he was not Jat. if we go to the definition of Bhappa, founder of Sikhi, Guru Nanak dev ji was also from Pakistan and belongs to Khatri Family. he was also Bhappa. Such type of poor depiction of Sikh by such writers & film makers, show their deficit of good ideas and constructive subject. They are jealous of development did by migrant community even after loosing every thing in partition. Punjabi language is very wast & rich language having many sub languages like Puadi, Pothohari, Dogri, Lahndi, Malwai etc. Every region has its own ascent and tradition. Nobody required the Certificate from Majha or Malwa for Being Punjabi.
Avtar Makkar was one of the key henchmen of the Badal clan and the damage done by him to Sikh institutions at the behest of his masters will take several decades to heal. As for Tara Singh Master, most of the issues facing Sikh community and Punjab can be traced back to his inept handling of the partition of Punjab and subsequent Punjabi Suba movement which he launched once he realized his colossal error of 1947.

1. Master ji never favored the Partition. Even though he passed the Sikh homeland resolution 1946.

3. Sikhs were on third No. in population just 12.5 % in Punjab even though he projected Sikhs as equal stake holders.
4. Who Visited London with Nehru & Jinha : Baldev Singh,, later he become India's first defense minister. Then how master is responsible for all present issues.
This is all narrative build by a dominating community's writers, politicians and activists, against Master Ji. Can you find any example in master ji's life as such today's So called Akalis & Jathedars doing daily.
5. After blue star one more narrative is build that It will be better to go with Jinha ( Muslims) as compare to Nehru ( Hindus). I am a keen reader of history and have done a bit of research on the events of 1947 As for Mr. Tara Singh's role and his legacy, it is worth noting that his demand for a Sikh homeland was driven purely by emotions and not built around any rational arguments. Sikhs constituted merely 12.5% of the population of the undivided Punjab and Master Tara Singh didn't understand the numerical disadvantage that the Sikhs faced until it was too late. Sikhs faced only 2 realistic scenarios at the time of partition:
1) Side with Muslim League thus resulting in the absorption of entire Punjab into Pakistan
2) Accept the partition of Punjab and try to get the best possible deal for the Sikhs
The third scenario of an independent Sikh homeland was just pipe dream since Sikhs were outnumbered in most of the districts except for TarnTaran and a couple of other tehsils of Punjab and the princely state of Patiala. Now let's consider both of the above scenarios
1) The idea of living in a Muslim majority state was an anathema to most Sikhs at that time. However, crucially. Master Tara Singh never considered the idea of even holding serious political parlays with Muslim League. He turned down several overtures from Jinnah. Master didn't even think it necessary to speak to Jinnah to negotiate the acquisition of important districts of Lahore, Sheikupura, Lyallpur and Montogomerie, which is where majority of Sikh population of West Punjab was concentrated and which were also home to most of the historic Sikh shrines. The least he could have done was to build an understanding with the Muslim League and ensure a safe population transfer during the partition thus avoiding the unnecessary bloodshed that costs almost a million lives.
I am not sure how the above would constitute Sikhs joining Pakistan and hence your analogy of Afghanistan; but Sikhs never ever considered joining Pakistan in ’47 or even today the idea has no serious takers in the community.
2) Accepting partition of Punjab was the only realistic option available to Sikhs and they could have made the most of it if the leadership comprising of Tara Singh and his acolyte Baldev Singh had shown political astuteness instead of trusting Congress blindly and without even signing any formal pact with Congress safeguarding the social, economic, political and religious future of Sikhs in independent India. The sheer obstinacy of Master Tara Singh in refusing to negotiate with Jinnah even to counterbalance Congress or even paying heed to British proposal to this effect was mind boggling. He could have leveraged the good reputation of the Sikhs into convincing the British to influence Muslim League to cede the four districts with Sikh concentration to India during the time of transfer, to ensure a safe passage to all the refugees travelling in either direction and also to influence Congress to ensure protection of Sikh interests in India. The partition of Punjab and transfer of Sikh population to India could have been achieved with minimum loss of life and property and transfer of most historic gurdwaras including Nankana Sahib could have been achieved but our Masterji never bothered to negotiate with either British or the League and accepted Congress's demand without even raising a question or putting forward a single demand.
Baldev Singh was a wealthy businessman and not a politician and his political position was dictated by Master Tara Singh. He advised the British of the unconditional support of the Sikh community to Congress during the round table conference in London after consulting Master Tara Singh only. As a reward for this act he was given the portfolio of defence ministry by Nehru from which he was booted after five years.
To say that Master Tara Singh fought for Sikh causes all his life is a rather vague way to camouflage the strategic shortcomings of a gentleman whom the Sikhs regarded as their undisputed leader. After partition once it became clear that Sikhs received a raw deal from Congress and that the demographic situation had left them politically disadvantaged, the focus of Master should have been to unite the Sikh political and religious leadership under one umbrella and address the issue of numerical disadvantage by doing parchaar of Sikhi in order to bring more and more disadvantaged and oppressed sections of the society into Sikhi but our masterji chose to embark on yet another disastrous project called Punjabi Suba. Punjabi Suba movement which Master had started with good intentions soon fell victim to the political infighting of Akali Dal which Partap Singh Kairon manipulated ruthlessly thus weakening Master Tara Singh’s own political position. With Master Tara Singh struggling politically, this Punjabi Suba movement was hijacked by the second string Akali leaders led by the self-anointed saint “sant” Fateh Singh and soon morphed into pretty much an Akali Suba movement.Along with creation of a truncated economically crippled Punjab, loss of Chandigarh and Punjabi Speaking areas and a perennial water dispute, another glaring legacy of this Punjabi Suba was the rise of unprincipled and unscrupulous second rate Akali leaders such as Badal, Barnala, Tohra,Longowal etc. all of whom have left their legacy in the form of current miserable socio-economic condition of Punjab and the Sikhs.
So I can understand your emotional defending of Master Tara Singh owing to his Khatri background but it is important to understand the historic background of many of the challenges the community is facing and Master Tara Singh’s ethnic background or even the ethnic backgrounds of people such Badal, Tohra, Barnala etc has nothing to do with it. Therefore, kindly look at this only as a critique of Master Tara Singh’s leadership.
The real elephant in the room is the lack of strong and selfless leadership and this is the major challenge Sikhs have been facing since the demise of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Unfortunately the individuals that the community has looked upto as its leaders have either turned out to be highly emotional but lacking political foresight such as Master Tara Singh or downright selfish, corrupt and sell outs e.g. Badal & Co. Lack of intelligent and selfless leadership is a worrying sign of times to come since the situation of the community is like that of a rudderless ship in a stormy ocean.

Good points. Most of us Arora Bajaj, chadha, sachdeva, chawla, makkar, kakkar many more refer them by Bhapa. Later we decided why we are in this religion and believe me most of the people are now getting back to their own ways because of this extremism and racism.

Though m a Hindu from Punjab but as an observer Sikhism now has confined to Jattism.
Actually it’s not about caste it’s about how uncivilised u are. More u are uncivilised, the more u are dominant to the civilised ones. This goes in for every religion. The concern is some people feel proud to flaunt their uncivilised way of living.

These singer people have big impact on Jatt Sikhs. They have subconsciously made them MONA GHONA through their songs. Throughout history most kattar and Amritdharis were Jatts but these singers have brought in moh maya and have downplayed Sikhi.

I beg to differ. Most of them maybe sabat soorat but most of them especially outside of Punjab can't even speak Punjabi and hardly care much about the issues of Punjab. Also most of them look down upon Punjabi Sikhs.

Dear Makkae Sab....Kuddos to you for coming to the forefront n to raise this issue in very balanced words...I personally got the brunt throughout my job as senior PWD officer of PB Govt...but I always had the courage like you to write my subcaste behind my name..which our community people use to avoid due to very obvious reasons.There was always jealousy in Jat minded officers for me as they even didn't like that non Jats should occupy seats of high privilege n there was motivated discrimination in prized postings by Pb Govt Ministers down to IAS n other high ranking officers...In a conversation with an unknown Jat person..he'll tell you in less than 5 minutes that he is Jat..whereas non Jat will try to hide his caste.Jats hv done so much damage to Sikhism as they consider themselves as champions of Sikhism.If they cut their hair it becomes a fashion whereas if non Jat keeps beard then he's called Giani or Khalsa in a bad tone.If the Khatri/Arora person fails in his/her bussiness no body cares for them....whereas when there's damage to crops due to natural calamity..Govt immediately comes to their help in ways of so many compensations.. 95% of my friends belong to Jat sikh community n I fairly tell them of this deep rooted issue.. they agree to it with me but treat others in same discriminate tone..I really appreciate ur vocal attitude in bringing up this issue as our children are being bullied n face mental health issues becoz of it..I fully support n luv to help you too in ur endavour....pl keep up this spirit n stay blessed 🙏 0:02 0:02

Jagdish tytler Kapoor bhapa, Lalit maken bhapa ( chacha of ajay maken), Arjan dass was bhapa, S c tandon police commissioner of delhi at that time bhapa, Acp Malhotra bhapa, congress leaders vinod arora, sukhan lal soodh bhapa, R k anand bhapa. I have list of atleast 50 politician and policemen who were bhapa and they were involved in 1984riots tell me
