Silver Mont Nice! There are some fantastic dialogues in ds2 as well, plus I know how much you love Straid 😂 One of the reasons I dig that quote from Gough so much is because of how rich the nostalgic memories from my childhood are. Even though I'm only going to turn 35 in a few weeks I sometimes feel that the incredible memories of my youth are a lifetime ago. Growing up in the 80's and 90's I've been fortunate enough to see an evolution in gaming that I literally dreamt of as a kid, and that phrase "at thy twilight" is a representation of looking back fondly as I get older. :)
Hah, my memory is so bad that I honestly don't really remember much from the first half of my life. I was looking at some family pictures the other day and I honestly didn't recall any of it. The pictures mean it happened, but that's the only proof, along with my parent's memories.
Silver Mont I am honestly the same way unfortunately, the memories that I mentioned are only brief highlights that were ingrained in my mind more than others. For real I had a similar situation with looking at old photographs just a few days ago, and if it weren't for the photos I would not have recalled those specific events. It really sucks because at times I can catch glimpses in my head of a fond memory from my youth, but it feels like there is a gap where 80% of the other things I experienced as a kid or teenager is lost to me unless someone brings up the specifics from those situations. This lapse in memory has also affected my adult life as well to some degree. Anyway I hope that it improves for you as well as myself. Thanks for making such great videos over the years by the way, I always look forward to your content. 👍

I'd love it if Ciaran had a properly fleshed out boss battle in the way Maria did. Hell, I'd love to see each of the knights have their own DaS3/BB style boss battle with multiple phases. Artorias brings in Sif at 50%, Ornstein goes super saiyan, Gough starts off fighting with his bare hands and then brings out his bow or vice versa, etc.
The way I see it, Ciaran is indeed a human. So far every single "god race" in the game is somewhat a giant except for Gwyndolin who is known to be deformed( btw I also lowkey suspect he's half human because of his size) The reason she desperately separates herself from human is that she wants to match with her colleagues, probably especially Artorias. Despite it actually being a special honor, she probably feels miserable among all those gods as a mere human. And that's why she denies being one. She might even think Artorias didn't respond to her feelings because she's just a human. Or maybe she never brought it up due to her low self-esteem. As far as I remembered, she and Gwyndolin are the only two who actually expressed some sort of racism toward human beings, which leaves me to wonder maybe they both have some sort of connection to human.
Anben Fu King Vendrick is human and is as big Gwyn. Usually with humanoid races I think size is an indication of dignity and lordliness. Unlike an assassin which is more backstage and subtle. Also the Undead Legion is kinda tall and they're human. Size is strange in Dark Souls, but I think it's symbolic. Also the Lothric Royalty are human I think?? Not too sure there tho...
@@auroragreen867 I think size has something to do with the strength of the soul the being possesses. Look at the Giants in 2, and the bosses we know to be Human. They are tough but not unbeatable and the bigger the being with the exception of the last giant generally equates to the number of souls we get from their defeat. (The twin bodied boss on the ship is different since he has 2 bodies melded at their backs so to speak). This doesnt exactly hold up 100% obviously but it does tend to be a general observation. Demons in ds2 are different of course the Smelter Demon and the Demonic Iron King for example. Even the Fume Knight could have been corrupted into a Demon like being given the rest of the enemies we fight before him in most cases.
I believe that all Giants are of the same race, but in DkS2 they are Hollow. Not through being Undead, since supposedly only Humans can be Cursed, but through some other means. I believe that the holes in their faces are their version of the Darksign, through which their Souls are removed. It’s possible that Vendrick himself was the one who removed their Souls, for his experiments. In DkS3 the Giants mostly resemble the ones in DkS1, but they have the bark-like skin of DkS2 Giants and the gangly arms of the Giant Lord or Last Giant. To me, they seem like they’re Hollowing, but not quite as Hollow as in DkS2. Yhorm looks like the Giant Lord and is possible his descendant. He has a face because he is not Hollow.
Bandai remastered the game, so I'm remastering my lore videos. The main difference being that I'm actually making my videos better. And you don't have to pay for them. (Also because of Dark Souls II and III I wanted to update the videos with newer information and in general improve their quality and cut out a lot of the rambling)
i would think that they would have some sort of relationship like they were good friends and it would not surprise if Hidetaka Miyazaki originally planned to have to be a couple. But hey, the community seems to ship them a lot anyway.
Just saying sifs boss fight is in the oolacile sanctuary with Elizabeth not the boss room u actually kill artorias in. His grave was either moved or they simply oversighted that fact in development
Yeah, it doesn't align up exactly but they are relatively close - as his grave was originally (as in, the mini one Ciaran makes) further towards Anor Londo / Oolacile. Maybe over time it changed and he had a more official one.
The giant archer is probably just a spiritual successor - another "giant archer up a tower." He's friendly if you have what's effectively an "oolacile branch" with you, and Gough was also pals with Oolacile.
I was originally going to wait for the Remaster and then use that footage for my lore video updates. Then I realised it's uh... not a huge difference, and I kinda prefer the original.
I think generally other than the Races of Giants which seem to have 2 subspecies and Dragons Most of the beings even the GODLIKE Lords are more human than most would like to admit. Perhaps some are also Giant Descendants given the size of a few but they grew even more when they acquired the lord souls. Most of Gwyn and his "Lords" would benefit from the subterfuge they were gods. But the Witch of Izalith is named a Witch. Probably great at fire magic which is why she was tasked with creating a second flame. Nito covered in skeletons as he is is difficult to identify as a former human like being. But then we look to DS2. Vendrik sailed across the ocean and returned with a prize one the giant lord wanted back. And later we get the Giants Kinship. This begs a quaestion. Is the Giants Kinship an aspect of Gwyn's lord soul? Is it the first Lord soul? Maybe by us defeating the Giant Lord we also rob Vendrik of his actual prize and while he knows he needs to rekindle the flame maybe he realizes without the kinship soul he cant actually enter the kiln so he hides from Nashandra to keep that knowledge from her and let himself go hollow because without the 2 halves of gwyns full soul he cant retain his human form and mind like the other "Gods" could. Even the Ancient Dragon only drops a Giant soul. And many contraptions use souls as power. Even our beloved Shanalotte/Emerald Herald was created either by dragons created by men, or with the help of the ancient dragon. And yes i believe she may be hiding scales under her bandaged arm. But i think they may have used another daughter of manus to help create her, the one of longing/love/hope (any of the 3 could fit based on her dialogue).
Hmm, probably either Gwyn and his Four Knights and the tales of their dragon huntings (specifically Ornstein) or the tale of brothers Aldia and Vendrick.
Silver Mont Aldia and Vendrick are my top pick. The Four Knights are all up there too, but Ornstein would be higher if the games could settle on when he’s real and when he’s an illusion/imposter.
you're just saying that because you like spears. Ciaran dosen't mess around. Toxic, bleed, no estus, all applied in a matter of seconds when your health is already half. Beats dragon murdering.
Yeah, and you're a racist. You're probably mixing up dragons and drakes. Drakes are the ones killing humans for no reason and eating them. They're like crazy feral apes.
Alright, to tell the truth, I say anybody has the right to say anything about dragons or other fictional creatures as long as that's true for the fiction they're talking about. That's why I hate when people say dragons have to have four legs and drakes have to have two. Who even said that, anyway? Did they invent dragons? I just like making jokes about dragon racism, and you're the only one who's ever got them. Congratulations for reading this whole comment! In doing so you officially have almost as pointless a life than me! loollooollloloooollllolol also sorry for this comment. so sorry.
Frampt talked about 1000 years, and this wasn't a part of those manipulative half-truths. Events in Oolacile are from the end of the original age of fire, so yeah, there's more than just "generations" since then. But, what's more important, Ciarans gang had lost their purpose (just like Gough) for quite some time already before we met her. At least judging by Ciaran herself, she would've had duties otherwise, isn't she. Knights can't just wander around, spending wealth of their lord on foundation of their own cities and stuff like that. Painting guardians, probably, had nothing to do with them, even if some of the Lords Blades went to serve amongst this fellow dancers, whenever this painting was finished and vocation opened.
Gwyn is alive or not that long since gone to link the flame, so it may be more than a 1000 years, but not much less... if you don't think Frampt decided to make the moment more epic with this exaggeration lol.
The Oolacile DLC stuff is in the past, we just don't know how long. The timeline is quite vague, as the only real time we got a measurement of time is Frampt says like "buddy I've been waiting a thousand years!" But even then, he might not mean literally a thousand years.
Miyazaki said in an interview that the events of the DLC take place roughly 300 years before the start of the game. So by the time Manus birthed his Abyss Gwyn had linked the Fire centuries ago.
Conspiracy theory, Ciaran and Artorias were reincarnated as the Dancer and Vordt, then were corrupted by Sulyvhan, then Artorias finally looked up to her! 🧐
It seems to me that Ciaran (and the Lord's Blades) are to the painting guardians as Artorias is to the silver knights and Gough is to the regular giants - exceptional individuals from the groups that serve Gwyn that were awarded additional prestige, items and duties. Going forward with this idea, it would imply that Ciaran is indeed human, despite her comments, as the painting guardians drop soft humanity, something entirely exclusive to human enemies in the game. It would also fit her name, as "little dark one" could be referring to the dark sprite of humanity that resides within her, being the only human of the four knights, and indeed the smallest. So if this is the case, why does she say "you humans"? Perhaps she wishes to distance herself from the lesser race; perhaps her own humanity is the reason her feelings for Artorias are unrequited? Or perhaps in order to serve the gods, the lord's blades are raised from a young age believing they are not human? It would certainly make killing their own kind easier.
Yeah, although I feel like perhaps Ornstein was more the "captain" of the silver knights, as Artorias was so... lone-wolfy, right? I feel like he probably didn't spend that much time dealing with other people. And that helped build his legend, as nobody was really that "close" with him.
@@SilverMont Yeah, I don't think any of the four knights other than Ornstein could be considered leaders of the groups they came from. Artorias also does seem the most "singled out" of them, since all of his legends mention him alone, rather than with Ornstein and Gough, who fought in a war with hundreds of others, and Ciaran who was just one of several Lord's Blades (though likely the most accomplished).
The parts focusing on Dark Souls 1 exclusively are good. However, you arent going to find solid answers if you look to the sequels. In fact, I'd say you'd get further from the truth if you try and tie in lore from DS2 and 3. DS2 wasnt made by Miyazaki, and it clearly shows from every aspect, especially storywise. And while DS3 was made by Miyazaki, the story has so many inconsistencies while also relying so heavy on fan service that it reaks of playing it safe. Miyazaki has gone on record as saying he hates doing sequels. Dark Soul's sequels (2 and 3) exist only because the president of From at the time signed a contract with Bandai to produce a trilogy of Souls games. And this shows. The 2nd game was a disappointment for many, as it didnt live up to the original game for many different reasons. It was during this game's development cycle, Miyazaki was working on Bloodborne. Then when DS3's dev cycle came around, that was the dev's biggest project, where Miyazaki had to work it for publicity. Lets face it, DS3 wpupd not have done as well as it would have had From not announced Miyazaki was working on the game. While Miyazaki worked on DS3, it's quite clear he phoned it in, making call backs and references over progressing the world in any real way.
rohiogerv22 For starters, you assume that I'm talking about the themes being reused as fan service... Which I am not. Secondly, the first game wasn't about that. If you lit the first flame then you were being deceived. However, if you chose to let it die then that was it. The world would enter its new stage. The cyclical themes came about during Dark Souls 2, by new storywriters who clearly didn't share the same vision as Miyazaki. Especially with that game's other vague theme of what it means to be a true monarch... Whatever that was supposed to mean. However, at least Dark Souls 2 tried to do something different, while Dark Souls 3 just rehashed the same area ideas as the first, even flat out taking areas from the first game and placing them in the third, in hopes of making the players go "oh yeah, I remember Dark Souls".
Except, you'll be deceived either way. Why everyone ignores the fact that in dark ending both serpents are together? Since they are, then, they both should be fine with both paths. But the logic of literally all DS players I've seen is: 1 of them is caught lying (it's half truth, really, from both of them), then this means the other one 100% tells the truth. Why? Because they just want to believe Kaathe? At start i liked how developers made him speaking and flattering the player, rather than player char, but then i saw how no one picked up on this interesting way of deception, making a bunch of 1 sided lore videos, and it became rather irritating, really.
Miyazaki's gone on record saying he was looking forwards to working on Dark Souls III again after Bloodborne though, because he found it restricting (paraphrasing) or limited because of the more focused setting and classes. But either way, irrespective of the quality of Dark Souls II and III, there's nothing really to suggest they aren't canon, and at times they do help expand our understanding of the world and setting of the first game, so I think it's worthwhile to include 'em. The only parts I don't really consider canon are those comics, because a lot of the time they flat-out contradict the games or just are filled with nonsense written by people who clearly have no idea what they are doing.
"Now watch, and see how Gough hunts dragons."
"Oh my god baby a no-scope, Chosen Undead get the camera!"
Quite racistly...
My favorite line of dialogue in any game comes from Gough: "At thy twilight, old thoughts return in great waves of nostalgia..."

The reason she desperately separates herself from human is that she wants to match with her colleagues, probably especially Artorias.
The helm piece and mask are seperate
I always thought that DS2's giants where hollowed, just like the DS3 giants, faceless.
Everytime I watch one of you're dark souls lore videos it makes me want to play darksouls soooo bad
More lore and still I am always drawn to the lore vids especially yours
Ciaran reminds me of dancer of boreal valley
I can see why!
So we're doing this again? Alright, I have no objections
Poor girl... Ciaran.
Artorias is it true she love you?
Papa Bless you you glorious man.
i would think that they would have some sort of relationship like they were good friends and it would not surprise if Hidetaka Miyazaki originally planned to have to be a couple. But hey, the community seems to ship them a lot anyway.
>The characters voice actress is hot.
>The character is probably hot.
How to make people love your game.
Where are those opening audio lines from? I assume "unused dialog", but they sound redundant w/ what was actually in the game.
Unused dialogue, yeah
Just saying sifs boss fight is in the oolacile sanctuary with Elizabeth not the boss room u actually kill artorias in. His grave was either moved or they simply oversighted that fact in development
Yeah, it doesn't align up exactly but they are relatively close - as his grave was originally (as in, the mini one Ciaran makes) further towards Anor Londo / Oolacile. Maybe over time it changed and he had a more official one.
Ciaran is so underated. I think she is genuinely cool. People just think she's Artoriasis gf, but she's much more
Indeed! It's a shame we didn't hear much about her compared to the others. But I guess we can chalk that up to her being an assassin type
LOREEEEEEEEEGASM YEAAAAAS
How do you have a silver colored brass set 🤔
Just a texture swap on the PC version of the game
@@SilverMont ooh ok tbh i think they should have put the silver version then the gold/copper texture
Silver Mont what is or is there a relationship between the giant archer on ds3 in the undead settlement and gough
The giant archer is probably just a spiritual successor - another "giant archer up a tower." He's friendly if you have what's effectively an "oolacile branch" with you, and Gough was also pals with Oolacile.
What armor is that your wearing? it looks like brass but its white
Correct! Texture swapped
gough would be a best friend for toph from avatar
She could metal bend his arrows for him
I don't remember that armor you are wearing, is it from a mod?
The brass set, but I did change the textures yeah, to make it silver
@@SilverMont thanks, it looks good
What is your loadout?
Silver Knight Straight Sword + Crystal Ring Shield + Brass Set armour mostly
Gough is the best his complements made me blush...such b-baka XD
?????????
Why do I have this same feeling as when I killed Sif?
y_y)
im not a fan of how remaster looks, happy to see this isnt it. whats the next lets play you have planed?
I was originally going to wait for the Remaster and then use that footage for my lore video updates. Then I realised it's uh... not a huge difference, and I kinda prefer the original.
Kind of weird that Gough doesn’t care that the chosen undead kills Ciaran
You'd think he might've heard, huh?
Ciaran = Casca.
2:07 "who shit nimbly"
Pooping is when you're at your most vulnerable. This is probably why birds poop whilst flying, so as not to be caught off guard.
What is your favorite piece of lore of all the souls games?
Hmm, probably either Gwyn and his Four Knights and the tales of their dragon huntings (specifically Ornstein) or the tale of brothers Aldia and Vendrick.
Silver Mont Yeah, Gwyn and his four knights are pretty cool. Aldia and Vendrick are somewhere in my top to.
Silver Mont Aldia and Vendrick are my top pick. The Four Knights are all up there too, but Ornstein would be higher if the games could settle on when he’s real and when he’s an illusion/imposter.
Demon’s souls in general. I feel like it had the best story. Escpecialy the lore of old king allant
The best and least best knights of gwyn in one video...
(respectively (if I'm using that word correctly))
Ornstein is #1
you're just saying that because you like spears.
Ciaran dosen't mess around. Toxic, bleed, no estus, all applied in a matter of seconds when your health is already half. Beats dragon murdering.
Murder is the unlawful killing of humans. Ergo, Ornstein is not a murderer. He's a pest exterminator.
In doing so you officially have almost as pointless a life than me!
loollooollloloooollllolol
also sorry for this comment.
Frampt suggests he's been waiting for a thousand years, but we don't really know if that's also implying Oolacile was 1000 years ago.
Gwyn is alive or not that long since gone to link the flame, so it may be more than a 1000 years, but not much less... if you don't think Frampt decided to make the moment more epic with this exaggeration lol.
Silver Mont Ooliciale is definitely the past an i wrong? Although the 1000 years don t seem right
The Oolacile DLC stuff is in the past, we just don't know how long.
So she gives you her weapons 2:00 in, you attack her, she pulls out another set of her same weapons? Lazy Miyazaki, very lazy 😆* 100% joking*
It is a bit silly, yeah. If you take her weapons she should fight you with her bare fists and talismans only
Oh also another great vid btw! I quite look forward to these \[+]/
She reminds me of Eveleye from overlord
Conspiracy theory, Ciaran and Artorias were reincarnated as the Dancer and Vordt, then were corrupted by Sulyvhan, then Artorias finally looked up to her! 🧐
Am I a time traveler or is this a re-upload?
It's another video on the same topic, a remake?
Who thinks ciaran maybe a waifu all along
Maybe?
Silver Mont maybe indeed
Nah my waifu is those mushroom bitches
official monkey account Amen
Notification squad!!!!!
PANCAKEMINEZZ Because incorporating cyclical themes into a game series that was always about cycles is totally fan service, right?
rohiogerv22 For starters, you assume that I'm talking about the themes being reused as fan service...
‘Dark souls 2 was a disappointment’ boi you can say that again, the shit sucked man
Miyazaki's gone on record saying he was looking forwards to working on Dark Souls III again after Bloodborne though, because he found it restricting (paraphrasing) or limited because of the more focused setting and classes.
