There was no assault, her arrest was warranted. Just screaming and claiming you can't touch me isn't a way out of detention. Just because we dislike the copper involved doesn't change the fact that this conviction is wrong and motivated by two tier policing, but it is ironic to see a copper fall foul of the same two tier policing where browns are immune to any prosecution to the point that trying to arrest a histrionic black lady has led to him being convicted.

Yes, if this was a white male nothing would have been done and there certainly wouldn’t be multiple organisations writing letters if the person had managed to get it to court.
I think it would have not escalated if the woman hadn’t been screaming and shouting while fighting to get them to let her go and had just remained calm and reasonable along with asking why they need to cuff her and what they were detaining her for.
Saying that this is institutional racism is going too far as it’s only one instance and at no point was race mentioned. I take it the bus driver said she hadn’t paid her fare and she probably acted in a similar manner with the driver instead of staying calm and reasonable while showing evidence of her having paid on her phone or her ticket. Maybe even asking if any other passenger had got on along with her and saw her pay?

A bigger issue, is why other officers who choose not to intervene, are never prosecuted. If they were, officers would be more likely to mediate the unlawful behaviour of their colleagues.
They should be treat the same as a gang. Joint Enterprise in assaults if they support it by focusing on controlling bystanders instead of addressing the wrongful behaviour.
If someone gets seriously injured, ALL officers involved should be hauled up on charges - if only because expanding the liability would help change the culture.
Whilst I have met some really decent officers - I have very little faith in the police as an organisation. A lack of willingness to hold officers accountable is precisely why we have bad officers... and until they begin to deal with this stuff more seriously, there will be no repairing the publics faith in policing.
The met seems determined to shoot itself in both feet.

      Stop calling them Officer.
They are not Officers, they are Constables.
When Sir Robert Peel created the modern police force in 1829 he deliberately wanted to avoid any association with the military and rank structure.
Hence the creation of the modern Constable, which is a common law rank and not commissioned Officer rank.

The people in the management must condone that sort of behavior which is not right. I understand the Police do have a tough job but incidences that this officer is allowed to get away with will tarnish the Police's good work. That officer Perry Lathwood should be given an office desk job and not allowed to deal directly with the public ever again.
