Dope! Ian needs to make more of these videos going through his thought process. I can listen to this for hours.

I can't reasonably afford a Kilter Board (yet? let's say "yet"), but I appreciate the hell out of all the thought Ian and co. put into these holds. It's educational for the community and raises the bar for other hold makers. The few Kilter sets I've got on my board were relatively pricy, but they really are the best holds on it and get some of the most use.

Love your boards and the routesetting capabilities they create. With you on advancing the consistency and sports science element of standardized board climbing. But that's why you should introduce benchmarks!!! Kilter boards are great but the grades are sooo internally inconsistent, especially between different angles (very often the 40 degree rating on a problem is equal to or higher than the 50 degree rating -presumably just because fewer and more advanced climbers are using it at 50...) Please do something about this Kilter! Benchies don't need to be sandbagged either, they just need to introduce consistency!

Benchmarks (we’ll call them verified problems) are in the works, but if you consider all the grades and all the different angles it’s a big project and we’ve been working on it for a while. The Original Kilter Board verified problems will be done sooner and the Homewall after that. Thanks for the patience!

yeah this is only for highly upper-class individuals, it's kind of mind-blowing the kind of nerds these companies have enticed to the sport of climbing, which for me is not paying for a passenger train and hiding in the toilet with my bouldering mat, then camping at a crag.

Interesting you make the analogy to weight stacks - unless you pay top dollar for calibrated ones, cast iron plates do have a 2-5% weight tolerance, no?

So sick! Kilter boards look soooo fun. Seriously love the design, from a technology standpoint and for the eye! Never tried one, but I watched it anyway 🥹

Thank you! Hopefully you get to check one out in person sometime 🙂 Good news is more and more Kilter Boards are popping up around the world every month!
