Things people don't know about the Excursion. It was the first limited trim in the Ford line up. It was more expensive than a f350. So if a f350 limited is 100k I couldn't imagine what a new excursion limited would be today. Probably 120k or 130k. People do buy new f350 and f250s take them to a shop in Texas and have them made into excursions. Its anywhere 60-100k depending on the options you make. The Excursion was the ONLY SUV solely based on a 3/4 platform. You can say suburban but those were based off the 1500 then upgraded to 2500. The Excursion is a f350 super duty underneath. Just different blocks and springs. You can't get anything like it. It was the only passenger vehicle with a v10 or 7.3. they are made to tow 14k lbs. And all the time. They are godly tier SUVs that you can't compare to anything. It's the biggest SUV ever made still today in 2021

My grandfather had a 2000 V10 f250 and it was always ridiculously torquey. After he stopped driving it, my dad fixed it up and now we haul our 5th wheel trailer with it. It may be unsafe by todays standards, but my goodness is it interesting!

Not true at all chevy has been making 3500 suburbans for a long time and still does in 2021. And the excursion is on the f250 platform not the f350 platform is the ¾ tonne not the 1 tonne. You've been able to get a ¾ tonne suburban with the diesel engine way before the excursion came out

We still LOVE our 05 Excursion Limited. Last year production. It really is a year round Luxury Sport Utility. It has the V10 gas that has never faltered. It pulls our 31' Airstream like it's not even there. I can't set the cruise while trailering. In other vehicles we had prior to 05, this one easily does it. Man you made the best choice. 2005 Ford Excursion V10 is way more reliable & much more durable, than most of new or moden SUVs. Ford made biggest mistake, when they stopped production of Excursions. Ford must produce it again. Ford Excursion is real King-Size Heavy-Duty SUV. No competition. Excursion is Heavy-Duty biggest & heaviest SUV, with the roomiest interior, with the largest cargo space & with the best towing capability. It will pull most anything you can trailer. I've been looking to buy another one just like mine just in case I need a backup. Problem is you can't find them with the gas v-10 motor in good shape very often. Lots of diesels out there but I had a F350 with the 7.3 powerstroke and didn't much care for that truck or engine. Like so many dash cam videos show.. quite often the SUV or truck will mount the smaller car with one tire and roll.
And the Excursion specifically has one of the worse rollover performances of any SUV due to its extremely weak roof strength.
Which will mean if you hit a car, chances are the car will have some cracked plastic, bent sheet metal, and broken glass with no injuries on board.. while the Excusion rolled half a dozen times down an embankment with one dead, one c spine fracture, and two in critical condition with blunt force trauma, broken bones, and lacerations.

Great truck. It is essentially an F250 crew cab with an enclosed short box.
The Ex got terrible press, being called the Ford Valdez, for it's gas mileage yet the F250 pickup got essentially the same mileage with the same powerplants. Yet no one complained about all the F250s running around being used as mall crawlers and school zone creepers.
Gas prices, adjusted for inflation, are not much more than they were in 2001 when I bought my Ex. But it still hurts to fill 160 litres (V10).

It may be because I have the 9600 GVW version. I bought it used 8 years ago with 39,000 miles on it and it now has 72,000 miles on it. I really have no need for it now that I sold my travel trailer, but it occasionally comes in handy to buy a big item or go to the dump. I rarely drive it because of the 10-11 mpg.
