Vertigo is my second favorite film and if one could be objective about these things, the best film ever made and a lot of that is of course due to the filmmakers from Hitchcock on down, but it’s also very much thanks to these two. RIP James, thank you Kim.

I disagree. Undoubtedly vertigo is a strong film, but there are flaws that I think keep it from being GOAT tier. First is the pacing. The pacing is too slow at times (especially in the 2nd and 4th “acts”) and the overall runtime I don’t think is quite justified, considering it turned out to be a complex mutter mystery. I runtime of say 1 hour 55 minutes would’ve probably been better. I also think the climax and resolution. Undoubtedly it’s a strong resolution for Jimmy stewart and Kim novak’s characters? However, we see nothing with key parts of the story. The husband and jimmy Stewart’s best friend who planned this elaborate murder isn’t even featured in the resolution. I don’t feel that is warranted and a scene with jimmy stewart and him at the end would’ve added a lot. Midge’s character also seemingly disappears. Compare this with the ending of rear window, which I believe is Hitchcock’s strongest film. I won’t get too specific if you haven’t seen it, but we not only have a satisfying resolution for the male and female leads of rear window, but also all of the other people around the neighborhood that we’ve seen throughout the film.

Really enjoyed the banter between Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak. What a class act both are & Kim is still has that sultry come-hither voice. So glad that she stood up to Cohn who wanted to change her last name. She also challenged the racial norms of the day by dating black men. She was too independent and too good a person for the Hollywood sexist bullies of the 1960-1980s. So smart to remove herself from all that!

Yes, I love Vertigo too though at the time Hitch hated it & thought it one of his worst. Kim Novak was lovely in it & Jimmy, well, what can we say......he is & was considered Hollywood's finest actors. This is wonderful to see but I agree, no standing ovation? Why not? I would have stood especially for Jimmy & Kim, what a knockout in that dress. Don't forget they also made "Bell, Book & Candle" together too.
