    Two by two should have been an entire episode with that title. there is so many that can be written with those pairings and the challenges of their uniqueness being together in the mission field and what Jesus sent them to do.

    I really wish they wouldn't try to pack it all into only 7 seasons. I am in no hurry for it to end. My favorite episode was season 1 episode 3,Jesus with the children. I love the relaxed pace and character development episodes the most, but I love all the episodes too. ❤

    Overall it’s really powerful movies, it’s not that easy to be detailed, even the Bible, it cannot be recorded all what happened, this is the reason why I appreciate and thankful to Dallas how he makes these disciples real person, the portrayal of their back story were really amazing…

    I have mixed feelings about the Simon and Eden miscarriage plot. I think it took away from the joyfulness of the Veronica and Jiarus daughter miracles. I think the miscarriage plot worked well in the season finale because it was used to intensify the Jesus and Simon walking on water scene. I really like what they are doing with Shmuel.

      I think it is the catalyst for them both to grow in faith and for Peter to become the leader he became. I think before it, there was a kind of a type of honeymoon period for Eden. As she said, He did so much for others but not for me. It's like for us at times when we don't understand why for some reason our prayers aren't answered - but there's a God reason.

    I agree, Jairus and Veronica are so well portrayed by the actors.
    I think the way they did it in the scene where Veronica gets healed was perhaps to know that Jesus knew, but he wanted her to speak up.

  • @Meggerz207
    @Meggerz207 Рік тому +9

    Completely agree with the 2x2. Especially when Simon and Matthew were put together with their reluctancy.
    I personally was confused with Eden’s miscarriage. It seemed like she gave birth to a stillborn. With my miscarriage and my daughters, it wasn’t that dramatic. Perhaps it was us and perhaps it’s due to medical care now vs then. However, I was confused with who she was initially as we are use to seeing her without her hair down. And given the extend of her pregnancy or the enhancement of it, I couldn’t match up the timeline.
    I also feel in the last episode she needed genuine tears as she broke down about her and Simon and losing the baby. It’s just not how someone cries. Matthew and James seemed more upset with tears than Eden during their “cry” scenes Just sat odd with me.
    Additionally, I don’t know any woman that would withhold the fact she lost her baby from her husband. He is the first one to go to for comfort since it was his too. For me, I did not like this marriage trial story.
    Again. It’s only my opinion.
    I think it was all amazing. I’m being picky as we discuss what we would have wanted is all. I support and love this show and all the actors. Dallas is greatly blessed with talent.

    • @wilsonhickman
      @wilsonhickman Рік тому +6

      Agreed! It's almost like they wanted to squeeze in every conceivable marriage struggle, from lack of communication to something as major as a miscarriage. Thus, we got an awkward blend of sitcom-style punch lines where Simon is walking on eggshells to win back Eden's favor--only to learn that she suffered a terrible loss and we never should have found the situation amusing.
      In my opinion, the biggest problem with the marriage storyline is that it stole the spotlight from biblical events. Instead of rejoicing when Jesus heals Veronica and raises Jairus' daughter, the show compels us to be angry with Jesus for helping them but not Eden. Even the feeding of the 5,000 had the life sucked out of it when the show forced us to see it from Peter's bitter perspective. Hopefully in Season 4 they'll go back to using fictional stories to elevate the Bible's accounts instead of the other way around. I understand a good portion of the show is fiction, but this is the first time I feel the fiction is utterly implausible. Would the biblical authors really think that Simon's mother-in-law having a fever is worth writing about, but a life-altering miscarriage is not?

      @@wilsonhickman Exactly my thoughts. You worded it much better than I could!

    • @sarabass8231
      @sarabass8231 Рік тому

      @@wilsonhickman I totally get where you're coming from. I thought it was super odd that Eden wouldn't tell her husband that she had had a miscarriage. And I thought that particular miscarriage was a little dramatic, considering she couldn't have been more than maybe 8 weeks along? According to what I think the timeline is. However--I really connected with Simon Peter's struggle and found it extremely poignant. I bawled during the healings of the woman with the issue of blood and Jairius' daughter. I felt moved by compassion and Christ's grace. But, I have experienced certain trials where I felt not abandoned, but blatantly ignored by God. So Simon shouting that he's always had faith, that's never been his problem, but doesn't understand why some are healed and those seemingly closest to Christ are suffering and struggling...it was profound. I'm glad they chose to have both storylines at the same time. Because being a believer in Christ you believe in miracles but also have to accept mortality and the trials we are given, and it's a tough dichotomy to live sometimes. My opinion and yours is valid, too.

    Overall I thoroughly enjoyed season three. Your comments at the end about the disconnect cleared up some things for me. I also felt disconnected but I think we were supposed to be disconnected. I kept feeling like I was being placed in Simmons sandals; he was truly disconnected from Jesus this season, and I think that the audience feeling disconnect was in relationship to him if that makes any sense. Maybe we were supposed to feel disconnected because of his disconnection and then we could be reconnected at the end as Simon was. Something to ponder.

    I agree with you. Season 3 was amazing and best season yet. But it did feel like, except for the Eden/Peter storyline, everything else was a series of disconnected stories. Some of that could be the Covid issues, and maybe Jonathan’s scheduling. He had just come off filming Jesus Revolution and he may have had some simultaneous obligations. But, I really did love the season. I also liked that in the healing of Veronica, they made Jesus look sort of hazy and glowing. It’s time to see the divinity of Jesus a bit more. That’s why I think they really need to rethink NOT doing the Transfiguration. I think it has to be shown.

    Thanks for your overview. I agree with the timeline disconnect, but I still loved every bit. And in life we have struggles, and it was so emotionally real to me. And gave me courage to trust God in my own bad situations 🙏 💯 🙌. Praise God! Thank you Jesus!

    I realized that the timeline for Season 3 can be figured out best by the Holidays celebrated in the order in which they are shown. If we begin with Sukkot from season 2 (the end of September), the next holiday celebrated is Rosh Hashanah ( the beginning of Season 3 when Jesus goes to Nazareth - it is apparently almost a year since it is the earlier part of September); Then the return of the Apostles (and the trouble in the Decapolis, which Andrew & Philip go to try to smooth over, and fail) has these 2 apostles returning to Capernaum at Purim - which is in March, so at least 6 months from Jesus'visit to Nazareth. Now we can see that enough time has elapsed for all of the events of season 3 to make sense...

      Correct, but they also mention things in episode 6 like “Andrew went to go see John a month and a half ago” so there’s things that seem off to me. I’ll do a deep dive and figure this out soon.

    It's awesome that they try to make things as historically accurate as possible, but they also have to make it understandable for people who don't know jewish burial practices. So I don't think the scene by the toumb was that big a deal. The main point is that people understand that Jesus is standing outside of what people can recognize as a grave/toumb.

      Yes, I believe they chose that name for her, because she will be the one doing the wiping of Jesus' face during his Passion. I hope they do get a chance to show more of the bonding. And I'm thinking that they were gone for more than a month and that would explain the time jump with Eden's miscarriage. In the official soundtrack he has his own entire song called The Apprentice and later in Multitudes you can hear his theme when he first introduces himself at the end of that episode, his theme melding well with the quiet staccato excitement of the music.

    I think you're being a little picky. Afterall, the woman with the issue of blood is mentioned for one to two versus in the scriptures if I am not mistaken and Jairus has little page time as well. So the fact that we got as much as we did was phenomenal in my opinion. In the end I think you're focused too much on the characters that have less influence on the narrative of Christ and his ministry with his apostles. The show is called the Chosen, and so I think that really is meant to focus on Christ and his apostles.

Hope that makes sense. 😅

      I do agree with your analysis of the two-by-two episode. It would have been nice if they hadn't fast-forwarded through that and really focused an episode or two on the trials of the apostles, that way when we get back to Jesus in Nazareth it is more of a special treat and we also know the 12 better. I feel like I don't know anything about Thaddeus or Nathanael.

    I felt like a some plot threads were played up too much and wasted time, like the olive oil business. At the same time, other plot threads were under-developed and didn’t hit as hard as they could have, such as the tension between Mary and Tamar, the jealousy James had for John’s and Thomas’s relationship, a resolution to what happened with the crowd in the tent city after Quintus told Gaius to shut it down, Thomas and Ramah trying to convince her father, etc… all seemed to end a bit abruptly. I wonder if they got a bit too ambitious with the sheer number of subplots this season. Maybe some of this will get tied up in Season 4, but it seems like it’s time to move away from Capernaum and the associated plot lines and expand into different cities we know Jesus and the disciples traveled in.

  • @ruthholbrook
    @ruthholbrook Рік тому +1

    I think we're seeing the disciples' developing their own characters / taking more responsibility. In the first two seasons they were being shaped by Jesus, but as they grow in ministry and responsibility we are seeing them take a lead, we are hearing them express their weaknesses, questioning and trying to work things out without Jesus in the driving seat to "nanny" them. I agree it does feel a bit disjointed without him, but I saw that as indicative of this development.
    I wonder if Simon won't get his new name until the end of S4, maybe into S5. Although it comes halfway through in the Gospels, that is also the point where Jesus sets his face to Jerusalem. Maybe The Chosen will use it to set up season 5.
    (Do we have an inkling what the season 4 theme will be?)
    I agree about the 2x2. There's the James, John and Thomas story which made a start before, but when Jesus starts taking James and John (and Simon) into his inner circle, it's like Thomas never happened.

    Regarding the 2 by 2 it had already been stated in the aftershow that they had to cut out a lot of the 2 by 2 stories so yes, it was disappointing but I think they had to make choices what to leave out. I guess they cannot include everything in only 8 episodes. I am not that interested in the timeline aspect, I think its just best to focus on the biblical aspects of the show and just focus on that. Overall still the best season so far.

      I agree for sure. I think that’s why I had struggles with the timeline because biblically it changes a lot to skip around time like that. And just as a story overall it makes it feel not as solid or grounded in reality.
