As you may know, I typically dumpster dive for make up in order to refrain from supporting the cosmetics industry. But today I am trying a different method to zero waste make up. This is the first episode of my three part zero waste make up series. There will be multiple zero waste make up recipes throughout the series including blush, bronzer, eye shadow, and mascara.
I recently saw Ladylike Buzzfeed try zero waste make up, and I'm not the biggest fan of their context, so here's my version (:

What other DIYs would you guys like to see me test out?
Also, I just realized that I can add alcohol to these and press them. I will keep you updated on my Instagram story if that works out.

Shelbizleee try hibiscus for blush/lip and maybe beeswax in the mascara?

You might have better success mixing aloe Vera gel with activated charcoal for eyeliner. Ela Gale has a video on that, and it appears to work well. Haven't tried it myself since I still have two liners I'm working through, but it looks pretty good in the video :)

If you need a diy makeup book, I really reccomend Make It Up by Marie Rayma. It's not 100% natural, and that's honestly fine. Not everything that is synthetic is bad for us and it's pretty good! She has a blog called humblebee and me where she has her own diy's too and it's a way to get a better grasp on diy cosmetics. It's not totally zero waste either, but I find it's still less packaging than if I were to buy some of these products from the store (especially lotion). Once I'm done my current eyebrow product I'm planning on making my own!

Lucy Zamora I love Marie. She's very good at explaining why it is essential to use a broad spectrum preservative in your recipes. I'm also enjoying Point Of Interest (swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com) where Susan explains the science behind makeup and has some amazing recipes. I will warn you : once you get started on making your own makeup, it's a can of worms.

I downloaded Ecosia and told all of my family about it and made a post on Facebook about it
It’s hard to convince people to live this kind of lifestyle but Ecosia is such as EASY option to transition to, especially because it’s free. I’ve been a vegetarian for 15 years but you have inspired me to really look at how we contribute to the earth and become vegan/zero waste. Honestly, thank you. I appreciate you.

Maybe add Shea butter to the actual eyeshadow for a cream shadow?

i am not sure but maybe you could use rubbing alcohol to press the loose pigment so that it doesn't fly everywhere? like you do with broken eyeshadow.

Just make a mix of the arrowroot powder, coco power, or you can use cinnamon/nutmeg. any mix of these that would make your skin tone. put it in with the shea butter. Use as little or as much shea to make the consistence you like for foundation.

  • @dummy4ever816
    @dummy4ever816 4 місяці тому

Been there, done all of that ! The turmeric, arrowroot, cocoa - all are a bit gritty no matter how fine you powder them and start to either pill or settle in creases or transfer etc. not easy for sure

I love your channel and that you’re so honest about your opinions. I’ve noticed that you’ve mentioned Ecozia (forgot how to spell it) and that they plant trees. I’m not sure if they’re planting trees in urban areas or in deforested areas. I’m not an expert but I’ve taken the college level biology series and my instructor had said that planting trees in deforested areas is actually not a good long term solution, they actually die and that’s because the deforested area is stripped of nutrients that the trees would catch. The soil isn’t the same as it was before, so she basically said that not cutting the trees in the first place is best, but selective cutting is the second best option. I personally believe that if you can build up the soil to be fertile enough to allow the growth of trees, that would allow defrosted areas to successfully grow back, but that’s not as easy as just getting a bunch of volunteers to plants trees in one go. It would involve ecologists and biologist to first survey the deforested areas of interest. It would actually take some research/experiment because it’s something that hasn’t been done before. It’s just a theory of mine.

Your so beautiful omg. Being 15 and Scottish buying things is a serious problem for me so diy makeup is so helpful, dumpster diving is not an option meaning if I want something, I would need to make waste:( your UA-cam channel has inspired me to be les wasteful and I’m supper thankful because I feel better know I’m not contributing to the waste💕 I love you with all of my person, I hope you are having an amazing day :)

I have done a blush/bronzer/ lip balm with cocoa powder and coconut oil. You can put it in a little pot and it's so much easier to use! I'm surprised too how much I'm liking it. Very similar to a very well known brand I used last summer and it leaves my cheeks with a glow😊

Beetroot isn't oil/fat soluble. If you were to dissolve it in a little bit of glycerin and then whisk it very well into a melted balm of your choice it may be better. Also you may want to try grinding your eye shadows with some arrowroot powder and tap your brush off very well. A little goes a long way.

I use washclothes that are washable .. only they cant go in a dryer.. to take off the makeup you need water.. thats all.. so each time i take a little part of the washcloth to take of the makeup and its so easy and no waste. I forgot the name of the brand but maybe youll find it on ecosia.

Honestly, I think you should have tested these before doing the series because idk what’s the point on doing a series o videos on how to do DIY makeup if it won’t work later on. The makeup that you put already looks like a mess so I don’t want to know how you’d look at the end of the day.... or at the end of a HOT SUMMER DAY 😂😂😂 Also, idk if you checked, but something being natural doesn’t mean that you can put it on your face or more specifically ON YOUR EYES, it is really dangerous to put non-eye safe products on your eyes bc it could give you an infection.
Anyway, I enjoyed this series, i think it was entertaining to watch but I wouldn’t try it myself 😂😂😂 I recommend you reviewing eco-friendly makeup brands!! I think that would be much better.... I hope you do it!
PS: this is NOT a hate comment, I love your channel I just don’t think DIY makeup is the best idea you could have... but I really hope you do review eco-friendly makeup brands in the future!

You should try grapeseed oil as a moisturizer/primer. It's hydrating, but also non comedogenic(doesn't clog pores) I use it all the time and my skin GLOWS like a mofo! Btw, I like the brows, the contour and the mascara! Also the arrowroot powder, been meaning to get that for several things including diy deodorant. You should do that! Diy deodorant/hair/body care!
