  • So here it is, the long awaited catch and cook video. Caught about 30 yellow perch out of the ocoee river system and took home a dozen to eat. Had a fun time catching and trying to eat what i caught. Most fish were caught on nightcrawlers and a few on the rebel teeny r.

Use your cleaning /fillet board, clamp the fish by its head, run in the knife down to the back bone, turning the knife toward the tail, cut along the back bone and stomach to the tail but don’t cut the fillet from the tail, flip the fillet over and cut the fillet from the skin. After you get the hang of it it is real easy to fillet fish.

Thanks for taking me along fishing. Even though I'll soon be 65, I've learned things from you I've never known. I'd love to return the favor by teaching you how to fillet perch, bass and bluegill, etc. if we ever meet. You have gotten me to think outside of the box as far as fishing locations. I truly appreciate you!

I heard you shout out my name on your live feed.. how strange to hear my name spoken on the computer.. and yes I always commnet.. I feel I just want to keep your spirit up and support you the best I can.. besides, being an old retire fart I have become a fair weather fisherman and need my fishing fix in the cold weather.. also I can not get around so well any more and really miss those nice little hikes into the fishing spots you go.. It brings back fond memories.. I still plan on sending the thing I said I would.. but I am having a bit of trouble gathering it together.. Those are real nice perch.. I like the colors of them too.. as for the clean and cook.. Well... I was surprised you didn't do that much.. I am not a great fish fan but I do like fresh fish now and then especially while out camping.. Salmon of course is my favorite.. But a nice brown or brookie trout is good to.. and your right you can make anything taste good if you cook it or bake it right.. my sister once made me a mock apple pie with just flour and water and a few other things (no apples) and it tasted just like a good apple pie.. Well thanks for the shout out (is that the right word?) it was funny.. carry on, be safe and have a great holiday season..

I love Yellow Perch ! Next to Trout they are my fav. in fresh water. In simi -salt White Perch are great. When there running ya can catch em three at a time on 3 hooks. I used only two cause some are rather large . Not real big just enough for light line (8-10 #) .Blood worms are the best, they go crazy for em. They range from abought a pound to some 2 pounders. And they are good sport. Allways a good time seeing you, God Bless ya. Tom DB, FL.

I like cooking these simply dressed. The lake by my house, the yellows don't get too big.
I cut the head and tail off and clean out the guts. Cook them skin on in the oven with some Old Bay, parsley and lemon. The cool thing about perch is the entire rib cage and backbone lifts away in one piece pretty easily once cooked.
Great string of dinner you've got there, Brother. Congrats! 🍻

In europe we have an almost similar perch and they bite on every weather, under all conditions. For ice fishing they are perfect! And the taste is even better than sander. Smoked perch is also delicious. Beautifull autumn colors in your vid! Like allways: thx for taking us out and thx for the zitate of the book at the end of your vids.
BTW: fileting fish is sth you really have to learn. Best if you start doing like 100 of these small perches. You gotta have a feeling for the knife and learn where the bones are. Almost like learning to read a creek. ;o)

I thought I was one of the only ones who fishes all of the time and almost never eats fish. I catch and release almost all of the time but every now and then I will keep a redfish, flounder, or pompano for my wife to eat because she loves fish. Growing up in the Adirondacks we would get some brook trout or small perch first thing in the morning and cook them up right on the shore as a shore breakfast and that was really good. Good times and Fun stuff!!

I learned to clean fish efficiently working briefly at a resort as a teen. Perch are one of the best eatin' fish. Some people like to season their fish 'til you can't taste anything but the seasoning. A little flour, salt, and cornmeal is all you really need. I like my food simple.

I know this was 5 months ago but I just subscribed and have been watching some of your older stuff, especially since where I live we’ve been getting so much rain and ant get out there myself. I like your fishing. As for the filleting, I have some advice. Use that beautiful board with the clamp. Clamp the face area of the fish. Cut just in front of the side fin (on the head side) at an angle towards the back of th fish. Run your fillet knife to the side of the backbone you are on, all the way to about 1/2” before the tail. Now flip that piece over (still slightly connected near the tail. Run your fillet knife between the skin and meat. You will be left with a fillet with no skin and only the rib cage bones which you should then cut out. Now flip the fish over, reclamp, and fillet that side. Takes a little practice but it gets easier and you will get the most meat without bones. And you use the clamp and cutting without cutting yourself as you cut away from your hands. All the while you will have something (clamp and then attached skin) to provide resistance. I love using Zataran’s medium hot breader to coat my fillets before frying. Delicious

Have to keep your grease hot and cook them until the browned...but 1st soak them in lemon juice and milk for then toss them in self rising corn meal/ flour mix with old bay and salt . White flaky golden crispy 😋 .....You did good man trial and error is how I learned to clean perch.

Way to get out of your comfort zone with these. I love the, “There, I did it. Are you happy now?” touch at the end. lol. When we finally hit the water if you want to do a catch and cook don’t worry about the cleaning and cooking. I’ve been doing that since I was 10. We have a fish fry, baked fish, grilled fish or sautéed fish tacos about once a month. 👍🏻
