I always found these old school 80/90s car chases more exciting and adrenaline pumping than Fast and Furious and Need for Speed. Real cars that could take abuse, not just fancy sports cars
The fancy sports cars are real cars too dude, some of them are just a bit more fragile than others. It’s a tradeoff you take for more speed. Don’t just write off an entire genre, why not enjoy these old chases AND some of the new chases?
Action thrillers or action in general just kept ramping up from the 70s into 80s and 90s and then in the 2000s onwards has slowly become shit again. Mad Max Fury Road was great but beyond that i think its just James Bond and Mission Impossible that manage to recapture the well-choreographed and well-shot car chases. Fast & Furious is for general movie-goers, any fans of action know there’s so much better out there than CGI bland car mashing
Carey Loftin (stunt driver for Steve McQueen in Bullitt) was the stunt coordinator on this movie. He was like a father and was driving mentor to Cliff Cudney, my late husband, who was the limo stunt driver in this chase scene. Greg Elam was Gregory Hines' stunt driver in this sequence, as well as all the other stunt doubling for Hines in this movie. Those were fun times. It was also a blast to be in Chicago at Christmastime when the Bears were in the Super Bowl
My most favorite scene of the entire Running Scared Film! Right on the Subway Tracks, imagine if this had been on the 2/5 joint line from 241st St all the way down to 34th St/Penn Station!
who cares, Chicago is a dump full of thugs and murderers. only 3 cool things in that city are the bulls, taste of Chicago, and turning the river green on St Patrick's day.
probably one of the best car chases, not only of the 80s, but of all time. shame this film bombed at the box office and we never go to see the planned sequel.
There’s a great scene when they first get the taxi/police car; Gregory Hines is looking it over and isn’t quite convinced it’s real enough, their rivals in the department show up and razz them for their car. Hines backs the cab into the other guy’s car and says “...NOW it looks like a taxi!”
Hands down one of my favorite parts of this highly underrated movie. Frank: What I’m trying to say is... It looks good. I especially like the color. Tony; Yea whaddya call it? The Chicken Mobile. Danny: (raising index finger)... Just a second... CRASH Can’t tell you how often I do the “just a second” move in real life. Haha
At one point while the chase is still on the highway, Hines is seen moving his hands on the steering wheel while in fact the steering wheel is not turning at all!
Who looked this up cause you just seen the movie and wanted to check the comments. It's absolutely perfect but got a little weird when they were driving full speed on the train tracks lol
I wish they would have at least had a sequel to this this is such a fantastic movie now when you ask about running scared instead of the movie with the late great Gregory Hines it's a movie with the late fast and furious guy Paul Walker everybody talks about 🙃
In the movie Octopussy, Bond is going down train tracks in a car. General Orlov sees him and says, "follow that car!" Now you have two cars going down the train tracks. When Billy Crystal says that line in this movie, he sounds just like the general. Even though the cars don't go onto the tracks until later in the chase, I think Billy was referencing Octopussy.
At 1:30 behind that billboard is the st.stephens convention center where Wizard con happens in Aug. The bridge is the same just the signs on the bridge have been updated. But that off ramp is 2 blooks away from the convention center. Back then the front was open to the outside, it's now Its all inside with a roof but it's more of less the same. The hotels have been majorly upgraded. Super nice area now. Every year I go and I can feel Gregory there.
I have for my whole life believed the nun thought Gregory Hines said ants (enough to push a train)... I haven't found it referenced that way anywhere. I refuse to believe she does not ask about ants.
When they pick up the car after its yellow cab makeover and they say it doesn't look like a taxi, then they ram the younger cops' Trans Am and mess up their car; "Now it looks like a Taxi."
So how did they get the car out the train platform? The only way would be going all the way back where they entered the train track but that'd too far and dangerous.
That "taxi" was their new and improved undercover cop car. The car they were driving in the beginning was spotted as a cop car and spray painted all over....."cops"...."undercover pigs"....etc, so they needed something that would "blend in" with the Chicago streets

Agreed!!
This one and To Live and Die in LA, 80s all the way
The sports cars can handle it too

That’s awesome! Thank you for sharing. Your late-husband was a hell of a driver.
Great story, thanks for sharing
Truck driver Duel 1971 Carey Loftin
Did he do Point Break or Steven Seagal out for Justice?
That was great precision driving by Cliff Cudney.
R.I.P too Gregory Hines i like this movie
Ohare to downtown in less than 5:58 minutes.
GOTTA be a record.
I wish the subways here were that fast
Excellent reference to the cab scene in Die Hard: With A Vengeance! 😎

"Hey Padre, you and your wife owe me $28.50."
Hahahahahaha "you and your wife" comedy at its best
This is one of my favorite movie chase scenes of all time. I love when they drive on the EL tracks.
80s cheese. Love it. Classic vintage stuff man
Danny: "IT WORKS, IT'S REALLY BULLETPROOF!
Penguin: "Thank You Lord!"
Ray: "THANK YOU ACE!"
Danny: "The windows won't rolled down."
Ray: "You asshole, Ace."
The sped up track shots were dope!
Aww damn!!!!!!! The classic Chicago Car chase!!!!!!!
Gotta love Chicago
Superb scene!! R.I.P Gregory Hines!
80s car chase scenes just hit harder! No crazy music, just big block engines and a drum track!
No cgi
Look at the old school taxi Caprice go. I miss when cars were like that. RIP that limo, though.
LOL "Thankyou Ace" next minute "You asshole Ace" LOLLOLOLOLOL, Legendary
When I was growing up, my parents had this movie on VHS. I grew up with it lol. Still is one of my favorite movies
"HEY Father. U & your wife owe me 28.50"!!!
"Try not to scrape the 3rd rail. There's around 600VOLTS! in there"!
It's not the voltage that gets ya... It's the amps
Truely the craziest chase i've ever seen.
My most favorite scene of the entire Running Scared Film! Right on the Subway Tracks, imagine if this had been on the 2/5 joint line from 241st St all the way down to 34th St/Penn Station!

Adam Christopher we didn’t know what we had in ‘86 lol
Bombed??!!! This is a great movie. That's a shame.
agreed
I think one reason there was never a sequel was that Billy Crystal made the deal to join SNL so he wouldn’t have been available for it anyway
That was not the best car chase you must have not seen the movie bullet
4:04 “It’s not the voltage that gets you. It’s the amps.” Word!
Nun: "How many amps are there?"
Ray: "Enough to push a train. And shut up!"
I love the D Body Cadillac Deville and the b-body Chevrolet Impala
If they started making cars like this again the american auto industry would come back ten fold
@@bluecollarnobody4217 Right?! I miss those cars. Imagine those Impalas with an LS2, airbags and ABS.
@@bluecollarnobody4217 The auto industry never left
Time to reboot it while Billy Crystal is still living R.I.P George Hines. Great film deserves a rewrite and reboot.
HARD PASS
Spooky thing is that people wouldnt blink twice at a taxicab warping thru traffic in such a fashion..
See, this is what happens if you don't give your limo or cab driver a tip...
Facts 😂😂😂
"Chicken Shit!"
CAT POO!
When cars could go offroad.
They still can
Thank you God...Thank you Ace! 😂😂
What the hell kinda tires could take that kind of punishment? :) Man, I miss the Impala.
Great film.
This car chase scene was so intense.
I just noticed something if you look very closely at ray driving he is really not turning the steering wheel
Classic car chase, excellent movie
Very nice this car chase
This was and still is my favorite car chase in cinema history..
💯 impossible. Too far fetched.

This chase scene is great! I love it hahah! amazing!
Try that with a plastic cadillac and plastic chevy cruze of today they wouldntve made it out of the airport
They wouldn't have made it out of the airport parking lot, you mean.
This is the same station that Neal Page came back for Del Griffith in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
R.I.P. Gregory Hines!
Wow, a race through the subway tunnel! THat's awesome!
Great chase, and the interior of that Cadillac looks quite cushy.
"try not to touch the third rail" XDD LMAO

Sometimes sequels ruin a good movie. I’m glad they didn’t make one.
Reminds me playing GTA vice city, 4 and 5
Am I the only one who thinks the railroad scene was satisfying?
One of the most bad-ass chase scenes EVER
