Good vid. Learned about the toothpick method. I would also recommend for anyone that's using cheaper cases like hardware store generic brands, to spray black plastidip on the plucked foam. That will prevent the cheaper foam from separating over time. It will also minimize foam dust from getting into the zoom lenses. Not as much of an issue with premium brands like Nanuk and Pelican.
Hey, I have that same Diety mic! To bad my Canon doesnt accept external mics at all. I just got my 5800. Im an audio engineer and planning on useing it as my mic case. I initially thought I would store my mics vertically as the case lays flat but I'm a little concerned about squishing the grills on a couple of my mics. Now I'm thinking I might be better off layering them horizontally. What are your thoughts?
@@kraigpruett Thanks for the feedback. I actaully went ahead and stacked most of my mics vertically. I had 2 small mics that I packed horizontally because they it wouldnt fit right vertically with the pick and pull foam. There was just enough room to close the lid and not squish the grills on my SM57s and 58s. I have a good variety of mics of different shapes and sizes so I was able to fit 11 mics so far with half the case still empty. Its super satisfying looking at a well organized case isnt it? Edit: I learned a little trick. If you have something kind of small and you dont want it to sink deep in to the case. You can pull the entire chunk of foam out, cut it in half depth wise then stick it back in to the pocket you just made.
Thanks man. I didn't want to ask the "dumb" question of how to cut the foam but I like the method you used with toothpicks and a long knife.
Glad you found it helpful!
Dude I was gonna make this exact video bc I couldn’t find any so fhis is perfect!!
This is crazy! I just looked this up and here you are answering the question! Thanks for the tips!
Excellent video, not too long and all the info I needed!
Thanks! Exactly what I needed!

Dividers are better for sure, just more expensive most of the time
