that was a slick move with the jerk in the car he put everyone in danger just to pas and stop at a red light.i love that obnoxious light you have blinking on the front
Interesting your experience vs the Strada & Baron. I did own a high end Windcheetah. I liked having 3 wheels, but found it painfully slow, so I never used it. This was from not having worked on my "bent" muscles, but jumping straight on a Baron (and now Raptobike) I'm in the ballpark of my upright when I was way off on the trike.
I know what you mean. The Strada was insanely quick, but for commuting, the Catrike works out at about the same as it's quicker off the mark (especially uphill) and there's no fear of filtering to the front, and having to stop just as the traffic lights turn to green. On the trike it's just so much easier, twice the fun, no fear of falling off. Ideally, I'd have a racing trike, a touring trike, and a nice 2 wheel high racer, but the 700 is the best compromise.
Very nice trike. Congratulations. Enjoyed the video too. Here in Japan, I am going to receive an HP Velotechnik Gekko fx 26 and a TerraCycle gx faring (bought separately, so I'll have to install it myself) sometime next week. Few dealers of trikes in Japan right now but I expect that will change. Nice comment about "the Missus".... Mine was skeptical when I ordered our 14 foot sailing dinghy from California some years back, but is now a happy crew member and loves to sail. She's a little skeptical at this point about the trike too (probably just jealous that I'm not spending the funds on her) but I expect she'll come around. Which of course means I'll have to buy one for her! I don't own a car, so I can afford it. Peace in the family? Priceless.
Mickeyfoccer If you're still in the market and can get to a trike dealer, try out a few by taking "test" rides on various types. I also endorse PedalPowerPanther's advice.
Have you tried the financial approach. Buy a 2nd hand trike for 1/2 the price of a new one. When you come to sell, you'll get your money back. I commute 25 miles per day, so save around £40 a week in fuel and the running of the motorbike. Therefor, by using the trike, I save over £2000 a year. Enough to buy the Missus a nice new frock etc etc. Worked for me!
I've owned a couple of 2 wheel 'bents (Bacchetta Strada/Optima Baron, and an Ice Trice 'S'. The Catrike is a lot lighter/has a much higher spec than the Ice and I found it to be about 10% faster. It's around 5% faster than the Baron, and maybe 5% slower than the Strada (which was awesome). Other than a high end Windcheetah, I can't see any other trike coming close. Obviously a Velo or similar will destroy the Catrike (apart from uphill).
Bob Wand yes trike makes difference. I have Greensoeed gt 3 and I can reach 13 -14 miles per hour with quite strong pedal stroke, and with same amount of pedal stroke I get around 20mph on my catrike 700.
I know what you mean about cars overtaking anything they see with pedals. I had a german S-pedelec which cruised at 28mph and the number of stupid overtakes was a big part of me selling the thing. Also though, the WTF effect of trikes can work to your advantage though, i had a KMX Cobra for a while and i've never been given so much room on the road. That also got sold as the frame bent under pedalling torque.
Brilliant video. Love the bike, so wish I could talk the boss lady into letting me get one, I would probably be the only person on this side of norn iron with one. Guess I will have to sell the wife and put the kids into a sweat shop before I get one.
i would want to punch you if i had to deal with those flashing lights coming at me on the road. very annoying, would probably give someone a seizure..but cool bike, i have a Sun EZ Tad SX and i am getting a catrike expedition, i am hoping it is also a fast trike.
Lol, I was thinking on the same comment with the words "I would punch you in the face if I would see you coming with that flashing light. Use static light."
@@soton000 i dont see flashing lights as being a big problem on the road, where getting attention from lazy, texting car wankers is far more important than any brief minor irritation it may cause them. If it does cause them irritations, then GOOD. i hope they go blind. the light from a bike is fairly trivial compared to car headlights on the road and usualy wont be directly in anyones eyes for a prolonged time, due to angles, distance and width of the road, etc. Here it is accentuated by the narrow lane where the light is shining directly at the camera. Dazzel from other cyclists bike lights can be a danger to other cyclists on bike paths where oncoming riders are directly in line with the other rider for a long time. It can actually force you to stop because you cannot see where you are fucking going. Cyclists should always lower their light or direct it sideways to prevent dazzling other cyclists, esp if it is one of those expensive ones with a car light battery that send out a powerful search light beam that is enough to see 100 meters into the distance on a moon less night. A blinking light is not really worse than a static one in those cases. Its still gonna blind you. So if you cycling on bike paths at night, esp if its the one from kenilworth to warwick university, dim your fucking light please when i approach. dont be an idiot. Be considerate lol
no disrespect but how can you say its the fastest this depends on rider i have had a few trikes ices etc and a velo which i hit 60 mph and 50 mph on the ice
No question the 700 in stock form is FAST (but not the WORLDS fastest) at least NOT until you change the basics to carbon and higher quality mechanics. Yes, the 700 is NO joke when next to it!
It's much faster than the Ice Trice 'S' I previously owned. Yup it won't get near a velo (except uphill of course) but a velo is a velo not a production trike. As for the rider? I can only say that there isn't a production trike out there that I would be faster on.
I found the Baron quite hard to ride compared to the Strada. I'd love a go on the Raptobike, is it the mid or low racer you ride? I suppose the ultimate for me would be the 'RaptoTrike prototype' it's on youtube (under 'RaptoTrike prototype'), you seen it? Awesome.
Well, it isn't the "fastest trike in the world". Go look at the organizations that record racing results, and the actual "fastest" trike in the world is a homebuilt :) I'm a big trike fan, just not a hype fan.

nice speeds your achieving on your ride , keep on triking
How much is the speed difference with and without fairing?
Despite this enjoyed the video nice to see a fellow triker

Guys, I'm ready for a trike but not sure which make and model. Want something that is good for short and long rides. Input much desired. Thanks.
Mickeyfoccer Model hmmmm If u want to have both speed and sustainability u should buy a touring one
Mickeyfoccer Greenspeed GT3. Fast. Tiny. Folds. Fun.
Cool. Thanks.

Thanks, the original post was in 2013 :)
Been a proud owner of a custom sportster made by Terra trike for 2 years now. Thanks though!
Nice vid I watched the whole thing and i usually don't.

No motor?
In lieu of spending loads of dough, get a little welder and go to the atomiczombie site and pick your favorite..

There are no fast trikes, fast riders.

swadish If someone is annoyed it means PPP has got their attention, which I think is the whole idea - getting the attention of other traffic, that is.
swadish PS Congratulations on your new trikes. I hope you are enjoying them.
it should be outlawed these flashing shits imagine if all the cars were allowed to have headlights flashing constantly.

The title is fastest production trike.
