I had a 5455 that was the Tier 2 like yours, but it had the Speedshift transmission in it. That tractor was incredibly reliable and I used it to make hay for 5 years. I found a nice Tier 3 6465 last year and traded the 5455 in on it. I like the 6465, but it also scares me because of how electronic it is. I wish it was more mechanical like my Tier 2 5455 was. But, if you like the 5400 series, you can find some reasonably priced 6400 series tractors out there, and that way you can have a similar cab and layout that you're used to. I think if my 6465 was Tier 2, I probably wouldn't be so scared of it.

What years are the tier 2 vs the tier 3

@@davegenske8973 Tier 2 was 2004-2007, then Tier 3 was 2008-2011. The easiest way to decipher the different Tiers is the hood of the tractor. The Tier 2 5400/6400 series had an all metal hood, with removable side panels, and the top of the hood is fixed (i.e. bolted down). The Tier 3 5400/6400 series had a restyled one piece plastic hood that raises using gas shocks like a car hood. The Tier 3 engines just seem alot more electronic than the Tier 2. My Tier 2 had very little wiring on it. My Tier 3 engine has one side completely covered with wiring harnesses and control modules.

Equipment prices are making it hard to survive for sure. Something definitely has to change and be done. Great video and see you next time

Very true about the squeeze and inflation

My 7616 was 68k used with 1200 hrs on it. After I added the loader I did and finance charges it was just at 90k to me that was a huge huge investment. I figure I have easily a half million in equipment trucks etc just to make hay and sell it.

Transmission oil it does get a bit neglected, but lot comes down to how hard the tractor is worked with heat too... then blow a hose or something and dump the oil lol. I forget the oil temp where hyd oil really starts to degrade or lose its viscous properties... like 170F? Up north a lot more winter work on some, think most winter days on the 7616 only ever gets up to like 90-100 degrees on the hydraulics... sub-zero is less yet.
At least with AGCO from my salesman, they're up 15% for a new tractor. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 50% more cost over the next year or 2 depending on the company. Used equipment is hot too. Bought a few items this fall and into beginning next year before things really get out of whack all at a reasonable price. Guarantee inflation is driving part of it, plus with "high" grain prices too everyone else wants a piece of the profits as history shows. I think the Olympics might have partly to do with it too with China could be shutting down plants to clean up their air pollution that could be driving prices for supplies. The cattle market? I think both you and I know the answer already.
