I really love all your explanations about your knits and try ons you do. They are really helpful when you can see them on a person. Your videos are one of my favorites😎
All I could think while you were talking about the episode of try-ons was Kelly from The Office singing "Fashion show! Fashion show! Fashion show at work!" The Gregoria Fibers yarn is soooo pretty. Looking forward to the kits for the California Sweater! :)
I love my poppy tee and started a second one that I'm adding long sleeves too. Your spinning will get thinner until you find your default yarn. That will be the yarn you spin without trying. Your plying will even out as your spinning does so don't take it heart. The more even your singles become the more even your plying will get. If you look at thick and thin machine processed yarns you will see the same thing.
Love your design for the California Sweater. Your comment about length and Petite Knits: I feel that in any pattern, I’m going to make sure it’s a length I want. Every pattern is a different design: I don’t think it’s “inconsistent” that on some PK patterns, you shorten and others you lengthen. That’s just the nature of different designs even within one designer. Love your podcast!
Thank you! My thought on length was that many designers have a standard length that they design to. Like for Jessie Maed Designs, I know I always need to lengthen the body because her designs are always more cropped than I prefer. For PK and the patterns I have knit from her, I am sensing a bit of inconsistency, which is interesting to me. Of course length is always subjective. Thanks!
The colour of your Poppy Tee is so insanely nice on you, it looks so sophisticated. OMG a craft room! That is exciting news! I will definitely watch you setting it up. I would apply for the tester call but I don't have a fitting yarn for it atm, so I'm just gonna wait a little while longer.
Thank you! This mauve color is one of my Soft Summer colors, so I'm reallllly happy with it! And I can't wait to share the video of setting up the craft room! Woo!
Hey Leslie, love your basic California sweater! The color is stunning and looks great on you! You are really in touch with your best colors! I listened to your comments about petit knit patterns not being consistent with regards to sizing. The thought that crossed my mind is they have different styles and maybe what the designer is trying to accomplish is to provide multiple style patterns for varying body styles and offering them to a wide audience. The great thing you do is adapt the patterns you choose to the sizing that you feel comfortable in and that encourages your audience to make modifications to patterns so they can grow in their knitting skill level. That’s a big score for your vlog- very positive!!!! Enjoy your vlogcast!!!!!! Carrie from Northern San Francisco Bay Area😘❤🐕🐑☕🧵🪡🧶
1. For counting your yardage, Dreaming Robots makes a yarn counter. It’s about $70. I checked; it’s in stock. 2. For plying, the key is to get into a consistent rhythm with your hand movements so eventually your plying will be even. If you want more twist in your ply, run it through your wheel again. If you want less, run it the opposite direction. 3. The Internet isn’t entirely correct on wraps per inch converted to yarn weight. Ravelry is especially wrong. I go by the Camaj Fiber Arts tool. Editing to add: there’s a fantastic class on Craftsy called “Ply to Knit: Spin the Yarn You Want” and it’s fantastic. All the Craftsy spinning classes are good but that’s one of the first ones I watched.
I'm definitely going to need to invest in the yarn counter at some point! That sounds like it makes counting yardage so much easier! And thanks for all the spinning tips!
Nice spinning! :D Re. measuring lenght and yarn weight: I usually count wraps when using the niddy noddy (before wash). After the yarn is washed and dry, I lay it flat and relaxed, and measure the circumference. I multiply and have the lenght. I then use Tiny Fibre Studio's grist calculator. If your skein is 95 grams and 160 yards, it's probably Aran weight :) I think it's more accurate this way compared to measuring WPIs. Hope this helps :D
Your tank top is incredible. Excited to see more of the California Sweater. Wonder if I can do it with sport/dk instead of a fuzzy. The hedgehog yarn is so fun because that "could" be your yarn.
Thank you! You could do the California Sweater with 1 strand of DK, but the nice thing about adding in the lace weight/fuzzy yarn is that the fuzz fills in the "gaps" of the larger gauge and makes the stitches not seem like they are too far apart, and we won't get that same look with 1 strand of DK.
Hi, 🤗, Knit California, I like what your talking about, here. You sound sooo knowing about Knitting. 🆒🆒🆒🙄. It's Exciting to here about Hand Knitting. I also do that plus, Flatbed Knitting Machine; plus, Hand Crochet; Embroidery; Needlepoint; & Hand Sew & using a Sewing machine. I just Love Crafts that have to do with Yarn. 👍👍👍🤔🙂😉. Stay Safe 😷. 👋. My question is that Poppy Tee...What kind of yarn did you use. Cause, I heard everything you said...But you didn't mention the type of YARN was this made with. For me, I would make it in the same yarn but, in Yellow.. That's my favorite color. Just saying. Ha, Ha. Ok. I'm NEW too your Channel. And I'm very glad that I saw it & all. Blessings to you & your Family. 🙏. Sincerely, Elsa R. 64 yrs. young/old woman. From out in California...👋
I really like your Poppy Tee. I have the same yarn, different color. I would need to knit the XL as well. Did you get gauge on the recommended needles? Looking forward to your tank top pattern. As a Southern California knitter, I would knit it in a linen or cotton wool combo. Have you sent out the tester call yet?
For the Poppy Tee, I had to go up a needle size (pattern recommends 3.5mm and I used 4mm), but I typically need to go up a needle size when I knit Petite Knit patterns. The test is now underway, but I am still looking for testers for Size 5XL (60-62" bust).
I’m loving your new sweater design and look forward to knitting it.🎉 On the spinning, you always want extra twist because washing balances it out and you end up with a balanced skein. One thing you can do is stop periodically when plying and make sure the plyed yarn twist nicely on its self. Also you can run plyed yarn back through your wheel and add more twist. I would do that with the orange skein. When I was using a niddy noddy I would use the unwashed yardage as an estimate and when I want that yarn for a project I measure yardage while caking it up. Although there are people who do what you said and niddy noddy twice. Also as you pull out all your goodies to go in your craft room you might find you have even more than you realized and may want to keep your office in your bedroom.

I agree on the length of the poppy tee. I think it’s perfect. Love your California sweater!

Omg I LOVE the Calfornia sweater!! Will be watching Insta for the test call. I have the perfect yarn for it, I'm just saying....
Yay!!

Hi Elsa, for the Poppy Tee I used the Kelbourne Woolens Mojave (60% cotton, 40% linen) in the color Mauve. Thanks for watching!
This transplanted California girl really needs a California sweater.
Absolutely!!
