The number one piece of advice has to be to buy a bike that’s already track prepped! Bonus points for finding one already sprung to to your weight. Find something that already has good suspension, has kickstand and any other necessary sensors already bipassed, braided lines, bodywork, a steering damper, safety wiring already done, and usually you’ll get a pile of sprockets for gearing at different tracks too. You just save SOOOO much time and money, it’s insane. Building a track bike from a street bike is great if you’re a serious expert to pro racer with sponsors and you’re starting with a brand new bike but for a track day only bike, it’s just not worth it. You can go pick up a prepped 1st or 2nd gen SV for nearly nothing.

My first track bike was a Yamaha FZS1000. It started as a road bike - a car pulled out in front of me and wrote it off - bent forks bla, bla, bla. So I took less insurance money, kept the bike, put new forks on with stiffer springs, took all electrics off, made a customised cowling, put some slicks on, removed old instrument cluster for sporty rev counter etc. It didn't look pretty - looked like a sporty rat bike - yes it was a wallow-bike with its tubular frame etc - but it was an absolute blast - plenty of power and was as quick as anything in the inters groups.

Yup, I love mine on the track... EXCEPT when I downshift like a barbarian and the rear goes crazy. If they came with a slipper clutch they'd be about perfect IMO
some one give me some advice. I started at the track this year with a aprilia GPR250. I haven't had a whole lot of time out on the track but feeling like its a bit slow already and want to move up in power. Out here in China where im currently based you can get a track prepped Daytona 675 for $3500 but just getting a stock ninja 400 will run about $5000. I feel like a ninja 400 is probably the sweet spot for power for me but its hard to justify spending considerably more on considerably less of a bike. Am i gonna die on a daytona or do i just get it and try to go as careful as possible. Or buy a track prepped ninja 300 for $3900 that i might get bored of after a month or 2?
even naked motorcycles like gsx s750 and Kawasaki z900 ,mt 09 are great track bikes, specially gsx cuz it is almost a k5 gsxr 750 (with less power and is a bit heavier)
