In the beginning it looked like there was going to be a line of more realistic fgs, in contrast to Capcom and SNK fgs (and their many derivatives), mainly fronted by Virtua Fighter. But that "fantasy line" of fgs prevailed, and that was made clear since the mid 90s. Actually it became even more over the top with the revolution of Darkstalkers and Marvel in graphics and gameplay, and with SF and KoF turning to more and more mystical and sometimes sci fi themes and exaggerated powers.
Yuri debuted in 94, but i don't know if it was before or after this game. I just guess it was before because aof2 came out very early in 94. I could say this girl combined two big trends of that time: the young karate girl who only has the top part of her gi outfit to show her legs (defined and popularized by Yuri in 94) and the blonde fighter: King (AOF - 92), Janne (WH - 92), Cammy (SF - 93), Sarah (VF - 93), Charlotte (SS - 93), Nina (TK - 94). In the very early fg history there was only King, who was designed to be a kind of tomboy. But then the following blondes had the distinct sexy or femme fatale thing, mainly Cammy and Nina (and later Blue Mary in 95). So this blonde char does something different from the mainstream ones at the time: making a blonde with the "cute" aspect, that only existed in Yuri at the time.
i find it funny that she's the only anime looking character compared to everyone else in the vs screen pictures. Everyone else looks like they were drawn in a attempt to be made realistic looking as possible.
Psikyo were ahead of their time with this. Too bad we would never see a re-release of this due to unauthorized use of video clips and images for character portraits.
@@symboss953 But it's still Arnold Schwarzenegger's face stamped on it. If there was a possibility of a current re-release they would do the same as Revenge of Shinobi on Virtual Console, they had swapped Sonny Chiba's eyes on the ninja title screen for another very bizarre pair of eyes to avoid copyright.
Interestingly enough, in the part of my home state in the USA where I was born, there was a former USMC guy that became a professional wrestler that had also wrestled a bear at one point in his career, and then he later became a sheriff, but it was that part about him becoming a sheriff that made him somehow more legendary than becoming a professional wrestler.
Dayum, some of the fights in this game are pretty intense! Course, bit of a shame the player was forced to lame it out in those last few rounds... still, if the CPU is gonna insist on just standing there & blocking _EVERYTHING,_ I suppose it can't really be helped..! Good fights, nonetheless. ;-)
What in the world did i just saw a bear as final fighter how weird can 90s get back then with fighting games is truly unexpected gem coming form you lg as usual nice work my friend and please have good day bye now 😂😂.
It’s actually not that weird for a fighting game. Go play Tekken, there is not only a giant Grizzly Bear named Kuma that walks and thinks for himself but he is in love with a giant panda named well.. “Panda” and she (Panda is a she btw) constantly rejects Kuma’s attempts at wooing her lol! When Kuma ins’t trying to woo Panda, he trains with his master Heihachi Mishima & even has a rivalry with another fighter named Paul Phoenix you is a biker dude with hair like Marge Simpson lol! So yeah, not that weird right?! ;)

Different. Very different...Huh, they sure had a good amount of fighting games that were hiding in the cut back in the days. Recently, i've been seeing fighting games i never knew existed. This is another one of them.
Crazy how a lot of games like this are lost to time cause of arcades and have never been ported. I know there’s emulators for arcade cabinets but still.
The fg market at the time was huge and crazy. It was much larger than today - which some people think it's very big, but i believe they must just not be from the 90s fg scene.
What Carlo’s Augusto said folks. I grew up in this timeframe and Street Fighter 2 revolutionized the video game market. Countless fighting games were made due to its inspiration. Many games like this one, are just now being discovered/found from 20+ years ago because someone hung onto it or got ahold of it somehow during their lifetime.. Also some cities have Arcade bars where you can go and just relive the 80’s & 90’s arcade scene. Many games like this exist in places like those. The discovery is part of the fun too!
El Asura Cross ( Bloody Cross) de caanoo y Buriki one de hyper Neo Geo 64 son de las misma onda que este juego 😉 por recomendarte otros dos de mis favoritos buenísimos 👍
@@alecaquino4306 by that, I meant how the arcade mode doesn’t end at the traditional ending. the character gets challenged to return matches and even has to fight the bear again.
It was an interesting attempt. Shame it never got a sequel to really iron out the kinks. also considering half the roster were sprite edits didn't help.
This is one of the least-stylized house styles I've seen. It's not very whimsical and, in fact, they operate on actual tourney rules like stopping once they're down. Also, large chunks of life in just a few hits. They don't make fighting games like this anymore. It is within the Street Fighter format, but this stands out in a sea of them. If they made a pro wrestling game, you would be asked to lose but in a graceful way by taking hits and putting up a fight, then get tallied by your merits in the ring as well as heeding the script (yeah, it's got a script, but the blows are real). They would figure something out like that instead of plastering Street Fighter on top. So here, this is what Karate Champ should have been. Karate Champ should have been this.

This is the most "real" fighting I've ever seen! I cant tell if this is real life or a sprite based fighting game from the 90s!

All kidding aside, I had to keep checking the year for this. For 1994, this ain't too shabby!
