      @Lq32332 Yeah except for reliability and durability, also if the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 is so good then why did Ford use the 6.8L and 7.3L Godzilla V8s in the Super Duty as base gas engines and not the 3.5L EcoBoost V6?

    • @nathansummerville3972
      @nathansummerville3972 5 місяців тому +4

      @@Lq32332the hurricane is significantly more complex than the Hemi. It is a DOHC setup first of all. It has tons of timing components(chains, tensioners, camshaft phasers and electronics). The turbos are integrated into the cylinder head. So when that turbo fails it’ll be super expensive. Direct injection is another problem. These engines have carbon deposit problems. Most manufacturers implement a dual system with port injection washing away the deposits. Dodge did not do this. Finally, PLASTIC! This engine is built with waaaaay too many plastic components. I will enjoy hearing about all the issues with them.😂

    @meadmaker4525 5 місяців тому +3

    So, basically they've Toyota'd the Ram with the 3.0 I-6. Exhaust note sounds...neutered. No real MPG difference and I would say emissions would be no better either. So, no real win there. They claim a whole 25 HP gain over the Hemi with the I-6, but I'd be dubious of those numbers until proven on a dyno. Just like Ford is learning with trying to force their Eco-Boost drive train into literally EVERYTHING, Ram will learn that turbo-charging a smaller displacement engine and trying to say it makes the same power and can do the same job is just not true. These engines break down OFTEN, mostly because they can't keep up with what most people expect a V8 to do. They're over-promising on the power numbers, and then gaslighting people when they keep breaking down. It's a mess.
    Now, to be clear, I like new tech. The electric car market is on fire and I like all the innovation I see there. I also like ICE engines and the Hemi in my Ram does a great job. I think there's no reason it shouldn't be making more like 450-500 HP stock, but that's another discussion. I also think bolting a 10-speed transmission (vs the 8 speed) onto it would net them MPG gains while still maintaining the grunt of the Hemi V8 that people need in that truck. That said, if someone comes up with a new engine that does a better job than the Hemi in my truck, I'll be eager to give it a try. But this "hurricane" I-6 isn't it. And before anyone goes off on the "but the engine is lighter because it's an 6 cylinder vs 8," I'll save you some time, it's literally 40 lbs lighter. Literally insignificant in terms of power and performance. Deleting that ridiculous sunroof would actually net you more weight loss on that truck than the difference in weight between those two engines.
    All in all, I think I'll keep my Hemi Ram a little while longer. Stellantis isn't doing anything with Ram worth looking at, and certainly not for the money they're asking. I dunno. This is my 3rd Ram. Maybe it's time for a Ford or GM truck.

    There has been a huge misconception between N/A v8s vs turbo 6s . 1: Old school people tend to think the V8 produces more torque at lower rpm and that’s just not true. 2: they tend to think there’s a lot of turbo lag and that not true for modern turbo engines. 3: turbo engines don’t last and that’s just not true as they are actually built to handle the extra stress . I can’t assess to the rams but can the 5.0 Ford vs Ecoboost . The 5.0 has the noticeable v8 sound and isn’t slow by any means but the 3.5 ecoboost is faster, it builds more torque at lower rpm, not just on the spec sheet either. When accelerating with the 5.0 you’ll find you have to get it the downshift to bring the rpm’s up to make power whereas the ecoboost will likely hold the gear when you fell the boost come in . I found myself only needing part throttle to accelerate under boost when I’d have to give it more throttle to get the 5.0s transmission to downshift , it has power but it’s not as low in the rpm

    I drove a SST yesterday at Don Davis Chrysler Dodge Ram Jeep. I am highly impressed by the engine. I own a 2021 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi etorque. The dual turbos on the straight six has no noticeable turbo lag which confused as I gave it the beans. The truck only had 30 miles when I test drove it. It has start stop as well which is so smooth that you can't tell the engine is off. The smoothness of rhe straight six is very impressive. I am keeping my hemi and purchasing a Lonestar in 2 years by that tyme all the kinks should be worked out. I asked the mechanics at the dealership about the platform and they said so no real issues. The issues were more along the line of quality control at the factory

  • @PotatoeJoe69

    That's the thing about small displacement turbocharged engines.... they don't actually get better fuel economy, because they beed to turn a lot more RPM to get the truck going than a bigger V8 does. Every additional RPM, is 6 more times fuel is injected into the cylinders.
    So if a 5.7L HEMI is going down the highway at 80mph, it may only be turning 2,000rpm. This Hurricane will be turning closer to 3,000 rpm.
    (Not exact numbers, just guesstimating to make the point).
    This is amplified worse in "city" driving. The HEMI may never exceed 2500 rpm in "city" driving, but since the inline turbo 6 makes so little power and torque until it reaches higher RPM, it may be hitting 4,000 RPM or MORE in normal city driving.

    Supposedly, they ditched the hemi for the hurricane over emissions and fuel economy. But, the 2025 HO Hurricane produces 521 g/mi of emissions compared to the 2024 hemi hybrid's 456 g/mi. Hemi also gets 19 mpg compared to the Hurricane HOs 17 combined. Non-HO is 456 g/mi and 19 mpg (same as hemi) The math doesn't math. Higher profit margin, shorter lifespan and then blame it on regulations?

    Is it just me or do neither of these trucks have tow hooks? Kind of a fail there. Give props to Ram they have had the best interiors for a long time now. That being said their exterior styling is wearing on me. Ram has kept the same basic shape since 2008, and with the 2019 redesign I think they made the front end worse. Agree with the comments they could have kept the Hemi in certain trim levels to keep "that" customer happy. Not sure if it's gonna be 2026 or 2027 but when the new GM twins debut they will be sporting a new Gen VI small-block which I am sure will be kept competitive with the Hurricane.

    I saw another video about this new 6 turbo and he supposedly had spoken to service managers about it. The reliability is just not there. I can tell not give my experience of owning F150s with V8s and one with the ecoboost and the ecoboost was not as reliable. Lost a cylinder or maybe more at around 125k miles plus had turbo issues at 80k miles. I’ll never own another turbocharged vehicle if I can help it.
    Just look at the issues Toyota is having with the 3.4 V6 turbos in the tundra and Lexus LX (i expect the same result from the new GX). Reliability seems to have gone down the toilet across the board though and this includes the issues with the GM V8s. I’d love to know if the newer F150 with the 5.0 V8 is more reliable than their current ecoboost V6s.
