I feel like people really glossed over the fact that he actually almost died as well. Like, he was in the hospital with a 30% chance of survival a few days after drivers license came out and people just kept attacking him. I feel like a lot of people don't realize that break ups happen and most likely neither of them were malicious in it- they just love to pick one person to hate.
while i do love olivia rodrigo and her music, i am proud of joshua telling his side of the story. i’ve been seeing childish comments from haters and toxic lives criticize his songs…saying that it’s misogynistic and manipulative when really he’s just expressing how he felt. if olivia was able to do it then so can joshua. the double standards…

I think that the flashing lights at the end of the Secret mv symbolizes the paparazzi and everyone flashing their cameras at him and him being in the spotlight (negatively) for the whole time

The hate he received was scary and overwhelming. People heard Olivia's side and just ran with it. They straight up bullied him and he was battling things privately as well. He really did have a rough year. He recently also had to face the trauma (the memories were buried deep in his mind for years) of him being sexually abused when he was a child. Hope the GQ interview of him talking about all of this and releasing this trilogy was helpful in his healing. May 2022 be a beautiful year for him! 💛
Sarah Carpenter, Sabrina’s sister is one of the creative directors for all of the videos. Personally I don't think Secret is about Brina. Besides they are on good terms and weren't even together for 16 months.
yeah but josh and liv weren’t together for that long. liv and ethan didn’t even break up until summer of 2019 so josh and liv couldn’t become a thing until the end of 2019 so it couldn’t be 16 months
I think it's great that both got to tell their story, however it still doesn't sit right with me that Olivia never addressed the hate he was getting, even in a general way like "hey guys, don't send hate", when she could have and it would have saved Josh a lot of distress.
if she addressed it, the hate won’t magically disappear. it’s better that she didn’t address at all bc the song wasn’t directed at anyone it was her writing about her heartbreak. everyone else made assumptions and sent hate whoever best fit their narrative. if anything, if she asked everyone to stop, it could’ve confirmed the theories fans made and would’ve made them send more hate

I bet it would've been nice thing for Joshua to hear that even though Oliva made those songs, she didn't make it with the intentions to hurt Joshua or send a hate mob his way. Just knowing what ground Olivia stood on would've been helpful to Josh during that time, so that way he knew that Oliva didn't mean any of that to happen, and she was just expressing herself in the best way she knew how. That's just how I personally feel on the situation.

His song "Secret", i believe, is actually about Olivia. You'd see quite a bit of Sour references if you're an Olivia fan. The WHITE car, the "pulled into your driveway". Just a bit of Driver's License. Nothing much about Josh saying "But I defended you still" and Olivia saying "I defended you to all my friends" (Favorite Crime) but then singing "Cause I knew rumors could kill" I MEAN!!! I thought Secret was about Sabrina at first since josh and Sabrina did date for exactly 16 months. But maybe not, now that im thinking about it. I do think this song is about two girls. I'm on joshuas side because heres my reason, hear me out, olivia could've stopped her fans to send hate(death threats) towards joshua and sabrina but she decided not to!! That shows what kind of person she is. And joshua on the other hand waited 16 months to release his songs and made him look the bad guy all this time even tho he could've slapped back right away
What I think of when I hear all these songs, whether by Joshua or Olivia, or even Sabrina, is a quote I heard, “you’re always the villain in someone else’s story.” We will never know entirely what happened. And I don’t think we need to, because it is their personal relationships that are out there for everyone to see. But I also think we need to remember that often times, it’s not just one person who makes all the mistakes. It’s usually a combination, it takes two to tango. But after receiving all of Joshua’s texts about the release of his new songs, he made it very clear that was not going to tolerate any negative things directed towards who the songs were about. And I think him making that statement makes me want to lean more towards what his side it. I am starting to struggle with Olivia’s outlook and perspective a bit. It feels like a little bit of a, (she wants to make everyone else the villain and her just an innocent victim) and that is not always the case. I think she made mistakes as well that she doesn’t really seem humble enough to admit to.

He had a rough year. He dealt with septic shock and heart failure in January 2021 ( I think) and he came out in July of 2021 as part of the LGBTQ+ community. He dated oliva for 16 months, Sabrina and him for maybe six, and Sabrina's sister played the blonde in Secerts cause they're still good friends.
I never noticed that the band wasn’t looking at him. Omg. Also I remember his friend and Co-star Matt said on a podcast that he warned him not to continue on with a relationship. 👀
Set me free is about a sexual assault experience he went through as a child unfortunately, although u can put some of the things on the Olivia situation, it’s bigger that that! :) the others, at least crisis’ not only are confirmed to be about her but he even developed slightly about it in a GQ interview These 3 songs, the order, the budget, directing, everything was very well put together!!! He’s going places!!!

secret is genuinely cinematic and an ear satisfying experience. his vocals and the beat are absolutely amazing. the music video was everything as well. they were sneaking around behind his back, it was clear as day but he didn’t want to see it. his friends (hsmtmts cast) only one i know for sure is matt cornett. he spoke about how his friends were in a toxic relationship and he tried telling one of them to leave and that it wasn’t healthy but he couldn’t say names. his friend tried to warned him
Secret is not about Sabrina cause Sarah who’s Sabrina’s sister was literally creative director on all three videos. So I don’t think Sarah would agree to work with Josh if he wrote a song about her sister especially implying she cheated. And he says “good for you foolin' everyone You had me tricked for sixteen months” which refers to Olivia for sure! She has a song good for u and they dated longer than Josh and Sabrina, plus he said “I bet your songs won't sound the same” which also refers to Olivia since Sabrina only had one song about the situation and it wasn’t even shady.
The fact Olivia stayed quiet when he got death threats and was verbally abused on social media says a lot about who she is as a person. People need to stop defending that. The stress from the shit her fans put him through put him in hospital. Olivia and her fans who supported that are disgusting.

Personally, I think that Joshua's music is so beautiful and so well thought out, like that's so impressive to me. I also listen to Olivia's music and her stuff is class also. For me, I can connect with Joshua a lot more for personal reasons and being able to listen to a song/songs about similar situations that you went through is like therapy in a way. He has put feelings that I've felt into words and a melody and I'm so grateful for that. Thank You Joshua. You've no idea how much your music has helped me in my life.

People forget that people aren’t perfect beings. We can go into something with the purest intentions but we still have our own flaws and traits about us that can be toxic or negative in certain situations. We can react badly to things and we make mistakes. That doesn’t make us bad people it makes us human. I’m sure both Olivia and Josh were hurt by eachother, it doesn’t make them bad people for it. It also doesn’t make them bad people for speaking up and telling their side of the story because that’s their truth. People tend to hear one side of the story and pick which side they think is true and then completely disregard the other side of the story and hate them for it. As if one of them has to be the bad guy in the situation, and one of them is innocent, which just isn’t the case in life. Most of the time neither of them are completely innocent, so both sides of the story that they are telling can be true. Because even if one side of the story isn’t true to the other person it’s true to them because it’s how they felt over the situation. ❤️
What all this drama has taught me fully as fact and only this is that they are both very talented and exceptional artists. They hit the mark with their songs and I’m amazed at their ability to not only storytell but create amazing breathtaking melodies which isn’t always easy

Olivia could have easily told her fans to stop sending hate and death threats to Josh, but she didn't because she was gaining more and more publicity. It says a lot about her a person. Josh waited months to actually release his music and side of the story, he stayed silent during the whole mess, and all of the earnings on the songs are going to mental health organizations. Even after the songs were released and people started saying things about Olivia, he spoke out and told them to stop because he wouldn't tolerate hate. Joshua went through so much over the year, and the fact that people still don't admire how strong he is and how respectful he was about the situation is appalling.

Each song really took a toll on me. Like I was too shocked to hear his story and the way he made the lyrics and music. Just give me chills and put a different view on me. I can't relate to none of these relationship wise cause I've never been in one but, I still feel how he is feeling in a sense cause of his music. (I hope this makes sense).

Posted this on the Crisis post. LEGAL! Somebody here referred to the possibility that Olivia was instructed by her management not to comment on the death threats. When I read that, the word LEGAL flashed into my mind. It is very possible that her attorney(s) told her AND her management not to make any public comment on the death threats. In that case, Olivia may have also told not to contact Joshua or discuss this with any of her friends. Why? Let's say Olivia had made a public statement on the death threats. In doing do so, she would have acknowledged a possible link between her and those threats, that is, fans' reaction to HER music was translating into death threats to Joshua. Had something happened to Joshua, that acknowlegement could have been the basis for a massive civil suit on the part of Joshua against Olivia and her management. Now some of you are going to point out that in August, Olivia spoke out against the fallout created by her songs but if you look carefully at that Buzzfeed post, she really skirts the heavy stuff, like death threats, and addresses only how people read too much into her lyrics. I realize this might seem a bit farfetched and maybe I am wrong, but I think it is worthwhile to consider the legal element here. I do not want to sound arrogant or condescending but I am probably a bit older than most of you and I have seen how this sort of thing works through my own experience in the business world, where legal issues are constantly at hand. Believe me, gag-rules like I cite above DO exist. Of course, this explanation does not help poor Josh but I am hoping that he sought help from friends, therapists, etc. It is not like he was destitute. He or his management could have hired protection and they probably did. Let's hope the release of these songs will help him to feel better and move on.
oh wow that’s something i didn’t even think about. i think this could probably hold true, for sure. That really sucks if that’s the case because her hands would have been tied. It still doesn’t mean that these threats are okay, but i understand the point being made. something i didn’t even consider or knew about.

I feel like this whole situation was blown out of proportion by "fans" who stirred the pot way to much and these 3 wonderful people got the backlash of it! As fans, we need to support to a certain degree and stop acting like we know the whole story from songs and stories they create.

yo i just watched joshua on the zach sang show. yall should def check it out. and god the stuff this mans been thru like a SEPTIC SHOCK AND HEART FAILURE due to STRESS. like being on the verge of death due to stress after drivers license dropped? thats just sad fam (also the childhood sexual assault stuff hes been thru made me want to cry)
His songs are so broad because then hrs not only telling his own story and feelings but it let's others feel and hear there own story and feelings listening to them. Whereas most songs you can kinda tell the feelings and story in them more than feel your own emotions in them. Which is why I love these songs so much.

The hate he received was scary and overwhelming. People heard Olivia's side and just ran with it. They straight up bullied him and he was battling things privately as well. He really did have a rough year. He recently also had to face the trauma (the memories were buried deep in his mind for years) of him being sexually abused when he was a child. Hope the GQ interview of him talking about all of this and releasing this trilogy was helpful in his healing. May 2022 be a beautiful year for him! 💛

I think it's great that both got to tell their story, however it still doesn't sit right with me that Olivia never addressed the hate he was getting, even in a general way like "hey guys, don't send hate", when she could have and it would have saved Josh a lot of distress.

I'm on joshuas side because heres my reason, hear me out, olivia could've stopped her fans to send hate(death threats) towards joshua and sabrina but she decided not to!! That shows what kind of person she is. And joshua on the other hand waited 16 months to release his songs and made him look the bad guy all this time even tho he could've slapped back right away
What I think of when I hear all these songs, whether by Joshua or Olivia, or even Sabrina, is a quote I heard, “you’re always the villain in someone else’s story.” We will never know entirely what happened. And I don’t think we need to, because it is their personal relationships that are out there for everyone to see. But I also think we need to remember that often times, it’s not just one person who makes all the mistakes. It’s usually a combination, it takes two to tango. But after receiving all of Joshua’s texts about the release of his new songs, he made it very clear that was not going to tolerate any negative things directed towards who the songs were about. And I think him making that statement makes me want to lean more towards what his side it. I am starting to struggle with Olivia’s outlook and perspective a bit. It feels like a little bit of a, (she wants to make everyone else the villain and her just an innocent victim) and that is not always the case. I think she made mistakes as well that she doesn’t really seem humble enough to admit to.

Personally, I think that Joshua's music is so beautiful and so well thought out, like that's so impressive to me. I also listen to Olivia's music and her stuff is class also. For me, I can connect with Joshua a lot more for personal reasons and being able to listen to a song/songs about similar situations that you went through is like therapy in a way. He has put feelings that I've felt into words and a melody and I'm so grateful for that. Thank You Joshua. You've no idea how much your music has helped me in my life.

People forget that people aren’t perfect beings. We can go into something with the purest intentions but we still have our own flaws and traits about us that can be toxic or negative in certain situations. We can react badly to things and we make mistakes. That doesn’t make us bad people it makes us human. I’m sure both Olivia and Josh were hurt by eachother, it doesn’t make them bad people for it. It also doesn’t make them bad people for speaking up and telling their side of the story because that’s their truth. People tend to hear one side of the story and pick which side they think is true and then completely disregard the other side of the story and hate them for it. As if one of them has to be the bad guy in the situation, and one of them is innocent, which just isn’t the case in life. Most of the time neither of them are completely innocent, so both sides of the story that they are telling can be true. Because even if one side of the story isn’t true to the other person it’s true to them because it’s how they felt over the situation. ❤️
What all this drama has taught me fully as fact and only this is that they are both very talented and exceptional artists. They hit the mark with their songs and I’m amazed at their ability to not only storytell but create amazing breathtaking melodies which isn’t always easy

Olivia could have easily told her fans to stop sending hate and death threats to Josh, but she didn't because she was gaining more and more publicity. It says a lot about her a person. Josh waited months to actually release his music and side of the story, he stayed silent during the whole mess, and all of the earnings on the songs are going to mental health organizations. Even after the songs were released and people started saying things about Olivia, he spoke out and told them to stop because he wouldn't tolerate hate. Joshua went through so much over the year, and the fact that people still don't admire how strong he is and how respectful he was about the situation is appalling.

Somebody here referred to the possibility that Olivia was instructed by her management not to comment on the death threats. When I read that, the word LEGAL flashed into my mind. It is very possible that her attorney(s) told her AND her management not to make any public comment on the death threats. In that case, Olivia may have also told not to contact Joshua or discuss this with any of her friends.
Why?
Let's say Olivia had made a public statement on the death threats. In doing do so, she would have acknowledged a possible link between her and those threats, that is, fans' reaction to HER music was translating into death threats to Joshua.
Had something happened to Joshua, that acknowlegement could have been the basis for a massive civil suit on the part of Joshua against Olivia and her management.
Now some of you are going to point out that in August, Olivia spoke out against the fallout created by her songs but if you look carefully at that Buzzfeed post, she really skirts the heavy stuff, like death threats, and addresses only how people read too much into her lyrics.
I realize this might seem a bit farfetched and maybe I am wrong, but I think it is worthwhile to consider the legal element here. I do not want to sound arrogant or condescending but I am probably a bit older than most of you and I have seen how this sort of thing works through my own experience in the business world, where legal issues are constantly at hand. Believe me, gag-rules like I cite above DO exist.
Of course, this explanation does not help poor Josh but I am hoping that he sought help from friends, therapists, etc. It is not like he was destitute. He or his management could have hired protection and they probably did. Let's hope the release of these songs will help him to feel better and move on.

His songs are so broad because then hrs not only telling his own story and feelings but it let's others feel and hear there own story and feelings listening to them. Whereas most songs you can kinda tell the feelings and story in them more than feel your own emotions in them. Which is why I love these songs so much.
