Ya'll... if half of what someone is saying is half true, that is 25% true. It is not specified if the other half is true or not but I believe it must be otherwise the lyrics would have been "half of what you're saying isn't true" or "75% of what you're saying isn't true" vs "half of what you're saying is only half true." 25% + 50% = 75% truth.

Josh wrote these songs 6 months ago... His crew wanted him to release them to add more fire and drama, but he waited until HE was ready to release them. That's maturity, respectful, and admirable. I think all this drama + his past trauma has really messed with Him and I'm so glad that he can relate all of this through music and what he loves.

Personally, Olivia’s lyrics reflected how she felt in a raw way, and I wouldn’t say it was toxic, it was just what you say when you’re immature and inexperienced in love. But what blew the thing out of proportion was the “fans”, the crazy, over obsessed people who saw their r/ship as a juicy piece of gossip and a chance to compete with other fandoms to show their superiority and loyalty in a weird way, hence the death threats and attacks on both Joshua and Sabrina.

@@Wee.low1 no idea, I didn’t keep up with the drama, but there’s a lot we don’t know so it’s hard to judge. Whatever happened, I like all of their music and I don’t really care to defend anyone. for me one thing is quite clear, which is that the “fans” really overreacted. And there’s only so much an artist can do to influence their fans, they ultimately can’t control them. Olivia shouldn’t be solely responsible for everything that happens to Joshua, but I guess in a love triangle everyone has some part to play.

he got dragged on social media all year. people invalidated his sexuality, made fun of his near death experience, even his childhood trauma! when olivia told her story everyone was listening but now that he says something he is ‘pushing the drama’ that’s just unfair.

Damn right. Especially so with the incident of septic shock. One of the main symptoms people get with septic shock is called "intense feeling of impending doom'. Coming from someone who has survived 5 rounds of it: you just never get over that feeling, and the weight of the fear that come over you never truly dissipates completely.

"As long as nobody was hurt in the process" - Joshua was in the hospital for heart failure and septic shock and the doctors told him that he was the sickest patient in the entire hospital (at the height of covid) and only had a 30% survival rate and that was all due to the stress and death threats because of Sour.

I got that info in my original comment from the zach sang interview, where joshua bassett said the doctor said you're the sickest patient in the hospital and it's the height of covid. So either I misheard, Joshua misinterpreted what the doctor said, or you're wrong.

just a correction: before joshua dropped his songs, he actually texted a mass text to his fans who have his number that is used for updates to say when he releases these songs he wants no hate towards anyone. and that any fan of his will respect that and treat others with respect !
yeah but even if he argues they aren't his fans loads of them continue to send her hate, which is why people say the artist saying something doesn't help because olivia's fandom is larger and she has loads of gp fans, and if it doesnt work on a smaller fandom how does it work on a larger one. anyway not here to speculate on what went on in their relationship, teenage relationships are messy on all sides. hope to see music come out of this not about this drama in 2022
@@amethysth2345 as a fan of both his and olivia’s, his message resonated with me so i hope that maybe it resonated with other people as well. there always will be hate, but the amount olivia has gotten is quite a bit less than joshua. he was literally forced to leave a cafe due to a girl playing olivia’s music over and over to make him uncomfortable. i hope that doesn’t happen to olivia and i don’t think it will partly due to his message.

Regardless of not wanting to address it directly. Olivia could’ve at least put out a anti-bullying message to her fans without mentioning names. It’s so horrid that till this day she acts oblivious & doesn’t put out positive messages to her fans. She knows a lot of them are toxic & it will only help her career. Otherwise there is no excuse for not being a decent human being.

You also have to consider the fact that he held back and waited to respond with his 3 songs. He didn't release them when he was pushed to. That shows maturity and that he cared and took time to think about things before he released stuff. He quietly endured the death threats and everything without dragging her thru the mud. Now he's fed up and feels ready to talk. Her music came across bitter and immature. He could have released stuff then and she would have gotten death threats too which isn't something he wanted to put her through. That being said, they're both artists and writing about feelings from their POV. Sometimes things get misconstrued and it's kinda safe to say that they both prolly effed up and got caught up in it all. Also, I'm a fan of them both.
I’d also like to add that Olivia has said her songs are about what she was feeling in the moment, the good and the bad. So I understand her coming across as immature and bitter, but I kind of think that’s the point. They’re just reflections of what she was going through in the moment, but it doesn’t mean that’s what she feels now. And I also wouldn’t call it bitter or immature to write about her feelings, although those feelings themselves can come across that way.

I didn't mean it that she is immature and bitter, just that it came across that way, but I didn't mean that it was bad to come across that way. All feelings are valid. It was for comparison purposes. That being said, they're both really talented and I'm just enjoying the music. ☺️

What I really like is that he really sits with his words. He writes what he feels but really thinks wisely about what he releases. Same thing with his interview on The Zack Sang Show. He addresses her and people around them without even having to outright say names. You can visibly see him hold back to carefully deliver his message. He's very careful with how he speaks about her. Joshua has always gotten an insane amount of hate ever since hsmtmts started to blow up and I’ll never understand it. He’s so talented and even if he and Olivia did have a rough relationship, it’s none of our business. I hate how toxic and mean everyone on the internet is 🤦🏻♀️

You mentioned reading an article, read his GQ articles. That journalist actually got to talk to him and then other news outlets pulled quotes from it for headlines. His recent article and his one back in June after he came out. I think those will answer your questions about whether it's just just "drama". Also listen to "secret" and "set me free" after reading the articles! (especially set me free, you need the context that has nothing to do with Olivia)
A bit of a correction: Josh did speak up about death threats and hate. He sent a message to the fans before releasing the songs asking them not to spread any hate towards anyone.
the 3rd one “set me free” is my favorite out of all his songs! i definitely recommend reading his GQ articles before listening to get some background :)

yeah i agree, like, ok, it didnt work out and theyre sad, but like, do we need to look into it that much? music has always been a positive outlet for artists, yet people use it as weapons against other artists as if it wasn't going to affect them.
His songs are barely about the relationship itself and more about what happened last year. That relationship was between 2019 and early 2020.

I agree when Tristan said that as long as no one was hurt, but the problem is that Joshua was hurt. He was literally hospitalized due to the stress from the backlash. That doesn't mean that Olivia is wrong for writing and profiting off of her experience and heartbreak but someone was physically hurt.

i love olivia’s music ! i love josh’s music ! what i don’t love is that olivia allows the amount of hate that’s going to joshua to the point where he almost died due to stress. she has such an influence and she needs to speak out the way joshua did about not sending hate to anyone and only spreading love. because they’re both wonderful people, but no one should be receiving death threats and have to leave a coffee shop because they’re being harassed. olivia needs to take a bit of responsibility here to help put a stop to the cyber bullying going on. they’re both amazing artists, but the hate to both parties needs to stop

I personally believe that Olivia wrote about her feelings, not to point fingers. No one really writes a song to make their fans get angry with the other party. And to be fair no one actually confirmed that it was Josh she was writing about, or Sabrina (blond girl). I've listened to Sabrina's music for years and started listening to Josh and Olivia when they began releasing and I enjoy all three of their musics, theyre all very talented artists and very real people with raw emotions. No one knew that Drivers License was going to blow up the way it was and that people would make assumptions about something that no one can know the full situation of and send Josh death threats because of it. I love this song Josh wrote, and it's just about his feelings through the whole thing, and yeah, he's making money off of it and good on him. After what he went through I believe that he deserves it. People are genuinely blowing this whole thing out of proportion and I do think Olivia should've spoken up but neither of them did, and that could've been a bad decision or a good one, it's hard to tell. However Josh claiming that Olivia wrecked his life as "a career move" seems really ballsy, considering he's writing in a similar way, a way that sort of points fingers without directly claiming anything. I don't think Olivia did it to hurt him, considering she wrote the songs months before the release. I don't think there was any malicious intent on her end and I hope there isn't any for Josh either.
I agree with what ur saying but I think it's also important to note that Josh specifically told his fans not to send anyone hate on his behalf whereas olivia did not.....I think that's what he meant in the lyric "messing with my life as a career move" because she was directly profiting off his poor image. I'm not saying she was purposely trying to ruin his life, I think that is a bold assumption since we don't know them, but I think Josh was commenting on the overall outcome/consequence

I want to play devil's advocate here.
I've seen way to often people saying that Good 4 U is toxic (I don't think so) because it sent fans to hate on Josh, give him death threats and Olivia didn't do anything about it.
First - G4U didn't sent anyone to hate on Josh, the people who did it are honestly crazy and obsessed because even now it's technically still speculation if they were together and these songs are about each other
Second - I will say that it is sus how Olivia never responded to this situation but she has also never said anything when people started snaking her and body shaming her so I'll go on a limb and say that maybe her managers tell her to not say anything about it and just let it all die down :/
I get a feeling that Disney doesn't allow either of them to address each other and create negative publicity for their show but I could be wrong

@Hazelwood you’re not exactly interpreting it correctly. The line is about him seeming like he’s fine. His life was seemingly great to an outsider and that’s what the song was about. So when she calls him a sociopath it’s because from what she sees is someone who didn’t give a shit about her and has moved on quickly. But that’s also her pov and her feelings in that moment. That does not mean she is literally calling him a sociopath. Also, it’s a song, so she’s allowed to write whatever even if it has no real meaning

I would recommend watching the Zach Sang Show episode with Joshua Basset because it was truly moving and eye opening.
They are young and talented and used their pain to do amazing music. Honestly I felt really bad for Joshua after hearing many interviews and reading online comments. People Need to calm down and embrace Love instead of hate😭

the clear bias here is really bothersome. my take from it is, olivia is entitled to write music in whatever way she wants, but not at someone else’s expense. whilst joshua was fighting for his life, she didn’t even bother to take a stand and say to her fans “hey, be kind.” you can’t control everyone but you have an influence on the people who support you, so you can definitely try to defuse any hate. she didn’t. not even a little. the difference between them is baffling. joshua sent out mass texts to his fans before his songs got release telling them not to send hate to anyone. he is 100% the bigger person, and he has taken responsibility whereas I feel like olivia has only passed the blame. this is coming from someone who listens to both of their music.

I think in general a lot of female artists in the last 10 years have made profit off their past relationships, and do so at the cost of smearing their ex partners to the general public. It’s pretty tacky behavior that society really shouldn’t be okay with.
While it’s true that since the inception of music itself - artists have sang about heart break and painful experiences, they did not get into intimate details like artists like Taylor Swift has. They didn’t directly out the person they were singing about and spend multiple songs demonizing them. And with social media now existing, these type of songs are even more horrific.
My issue with it is that the general public will never know what really happened. So you are only hearing one side of it, and the other person has no voice. It’s pretty damn cruel - especially when it turns out the singer isn’t fully being truthful.
Again there are plenty of examples of singers from the 60s through the 90s writing about an ex lover without it being this personal and gossipy.
Josh said in an interview with zach sang that he has been so scared to tell the truth because of the backlash, he didn’t want to add fuel to the fire. He didn’t want it to make the hate being aimed at him worse and he also said that he’s protecting the other person too i.e Olivia. So I think there’s a whole part of the story that isn’t being told because it puts Olivia in a not so innocent light and Josh doesn’t want Olivia to go through what he went through. In all honesty I love them both, I think their both great people. Some of the things each of them did may not have been handled the best but that’s what makes us human, it doesn’t mean we’re a bad person. And we also don’t even know 1/4 of the story and we don’t need to either it’s their business.
I also want to say that Josh also said he was okay with Olivia writing the songs but she did basically speak about him like he was a piece of trash and then “miss out a whole section of the truth” and then get away with it without the repercussions while he suffers. He also said his label wanted him to profit off of it and make a song back curling the drama but he said it didn’t feel right to him so he waited all this time until he felt like he was in a position where he could.
What broke my heart is he said that when crisis, secret and set me free was released he posting a Instagram post telling everyone to not hate on anyone regardless of the situation he doesn’t want any hate thrown anyone’s way because of this. And he said he burst into tears when he posted it because he said that’s all he wanted her to do, was to post something or publicly say don’t throw hate to this person. He felt like she didn’t care and he said if she loved him as much as she said then why would she want someone she loved to hurt like that.
