  • This week we're laser cutting foam to create foam inserts for
    our industrial tools. These custom mat foam inserts are made
    from polyethylene foam (PE foam or PEF), which are laser friendly to cut and engrave. We use our Trotec Speedy 400 100w laser cutting machine.
    Engraving: 70 power, 80 speed, 1 pass, 0.1 z-offset
    Cutting: 30 power, 2 speed, 3 passes
    We do advise to always double check the MSDS sheet of any PEF sheet you're going to laser, and ask our Technical staff if the material is safe to cut or engrave.
    These foam inserts are ideal for organizing and storing industrial tools, instruments, promotional items, awards and any objects you would like to display in a professional manner.

    Thank u, that procedure is simple and accurate, I'd use a good 2D cad, instead of Corel to obtain a STL file.
    My answer is: is it possible to use a laser head mounted into a 3D printer (let's say a Creality Ender 3 PRO) in order to cut foam?
    May you give info on the laser power needed?

    Can you make a video more detail on the software portion? I tried to follow yours, but it seems to cut out in some detail areas. Alot of companies require that you provide the file for the cut out... alot of places that I call states for them to do it, it would cost in the hundreds of dollars.

      Did you find an answer? Looking for a supplier of this but all my research says it will kill you from the gases but many people seem to say it is "safe" however the general make up of the foam is a gas product. So yes it does work but really bad health wise.

    • @TrotecLaserCanada

      Hi thanks for the comment! Well we've easily cut foam of 1" thick, for deep boxes you can layer these foam sheets on top of one another (they come in various thicknesses). Building up the foam is a nice feature we want to display in future videos.

      Hi Andrei, we have been working for the past several months to simplify the tool organization process. You can watch a demo here - ua-cam.com/video/jgCmRlkGDZc/v-deo.html. The idea is to take a few photos and let machine learning do the rest for you: extract accurate outlines, recognize tools, group and lay them out in a few seconds. We would love it if you could give toolKaiser a try at www.toolkaiser.com/ and could give us some feedback. Please do not hesitate to connect with us at info@toolkaiser.com if you have any questions.

    Hey Trotec,
    I can use a Trotec speedy flexx laser at the local fablab to cut my own Foam inlay, but I'm wondering how good the fit is when you make a photo of the items you want to place in it, and do you recon it works on lighter colored foams?

    • @TrotecLaserCanada
      @TrotecLaserCanada  5 років тому

      Hi Sebastian, it depends on the foam density you're using but as long as you measure your overall box (outer shape) correctly then they should fit right in, it worked for us. Light foams can burn a bit so try using lower power and multiple passes if you need to.
