Love the step by step process. Looking forward to see more. All the way from Trinidad and Tobago - in the Caribbean where its nice and warm all year around.
Props to the artist who made the box and logo! 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽😍 Hey James, can you show us a video on preventative maintenance please? Even simple like cleaning our mirrors and lenses, or some Trocare info on what they provide. Always appreciate Trotec Canada for your videos, thanks everyone. 🙏🏽
I learned something new! how about that. Laser welding... So which materials are weldable to which and how does thickness and stack order affect the outcome? can I weld an entire rainbow sandwich at once or just a 2 layer bread and butter? BTW, In the Van W/ James is a brilliant use of marketing funds. You guys are way out ahead of the pack and it's refreshing! Keep innovating.
Hi Dave, thank you so much for all the kind words! We're glad we have such a talented presenter like James! As far as welding goes, this is specific for acrylic-on-acrylic. Because acrylic turns into a liquid when you burn it, the liquid acrylic from the top layer solidifies with bottom one to create the weld. It won't work on wood or plastic so much. You can use any thicknesses depending on the power of your machine. You can also use a similar kiss-cut welding technique on twill fabric, we show an example in this video: ua-cam.com/video/7lOipH5CiDM/v-deo.html
I wish i had learned about laser welding only a week ago when i designed my 1st rgb\led acrylic light stand for displaying artwork engraved acrylic panels. It would have cut my time in the solvent welding process & simplified my assembly. For others who might read this...I want to add a point about CA glues. It leaves a permanent, unsightly white residue on clear acrylic, so i only use acrylic solvents during assembly. Thank you James & Trotec Canada! (Will there be a "Trotec USA" in the future? I'm in Spokane, WA😉😎)
Thabks for the kind words, yes some glue can leave a stain on clear acrylic so we suggest to glue on the edges where it wont be noticeable. We have a Trotec USA, they are a great team! :)
Nice. Have Speedy 400, 80 W. What settings should I use? Love these kind of projects they are not necessarily meant for commercial sale. Although this one definitely could. Please keep projects coming.
Thanks we appreciate that! Try using 100 power, 0.3 to 0.4 speed and 2500hz. Just make sure that your table is fully sealed (the parts that don't have acrylic on them) and don't forget to use air-assist. You may need to test little square out with different speeds, but it should be slower than regular acrylic cutting.
Hi Claire, you don't need a vacuum table, a honeycomb or cutting bed is what you would use - just tape off any unused surface so the vacuum/suction works much stronger.
can you help with two things; first, I still get a bit of fog in the cut line when cutting acrylic, what can I do to eliminate ? Secondly, please advise the glue and hardener used to assemble Thanks
The box or the welding? Welding doesn't mater what shape you use as their 2 flat pieces. With the 3D object we would suggest to use a CAD software like Rhino3D
No you shouldn't. I have done it, but it really sucks. It burns like crazy and created little balls of melted glass. The molten glass can fly up and touch the lens and foul it. - James
So I've been playing around with "welding" two pieces of acrylic (as shown in the video) and have had very good luck with the bonding at the edge, but I'm not getting a clean look on the face (I'm using Translucent black with a clear top piece). I'm guessing its the capillary action is making "streaks" between the layers. Is there anything I can do to resolve this? Im using a SP400 80w. Thanks!
@@TrotecLaserCanadaThe streaking varied (I did several tests) but seeing it mostly around the cut. Almost looks like the seal between the pieces aren't tight enough. I'm using Chemcast Cast Cell Acrylic 1/8" on each piece. Maybe go down to 1/16" ?
Christopher Rismay we are not sure about that particular brand but yes many glues do leave smuge marks so you can try to cover it up with a sepparate piece or try methylene chloride which is clear (but can still leave clear streaks)
Hi! If you send us an email to youtube@troteclaser.com with your request and country we will forward it to our partners in your local area for pricing. Thanks!
When you use products like superglue, please specify EXACTLY what the product name and type is. I know these are BSI (Bob Smith Industries) products, but does everyone?
Thats a very cool idea Thanks and yes more please
Thanks Mark!
Seeing you put things together for a novice here makes it where I picked up on twenty things just by watching a pro at work, thank you and God bless!
Thank you so much! We appreciate it.

Awesome way to use the acrylic. Thanks for the tutorial ^^
Thanks guys! We appreciate it!
Love it. Going to try and do this myself.
Very Cool! Thanks for the videos.
fcbully Thanks!
that looks great James
Thanks Jeff!
Further tips are always welcome, plus a closer demo of the welding technique :)

Thanks for the kind words Nickole! We'll definitely put your idea on the to-do list, keep 'em coming!
I like that.
Thank you James for learning something new to me. Welding some acrylic in this way ....cool ! Greets from over the great lake, from Germany :)
Thanks so much! Hope to see some cool stuff coming from Germany on the Trotec! :)
Love this channel..., subbed.
Thanks! :)

What's that glue you're using?
How well would this application do outdoor with the element of weather and UV rays from the sun? Does anyone know?

Great vid!!! What is the estimated total cost of materials used for this project minus the laser equipment? Thxs
Hi I'm in the uk what laser cutter should I buy it's amazing what you done
Thanks Paul, we suggest to go to your local Trotec rep and get in touch with a sales rep, they can give you a full demo and advise on a laser.
Hello James, what speed and frequency for black XT acrylic 3mm thick, same size? was the laser focus on or inside the surface?
How do youreplace a faulty LED without destroying your amazing work?
Hi Gary, yes that is a predicament. Ideally you can laser cut some kind of hole in the back to fit your hand if you need to replace an LED light.
Hi, would the acrylic welding only work if you have a vacuum bed? We have a Speedy 300 but only have the standard bed and honeycomb bed.
Hi Claire, you don't need a vacuum table, a honeycomb or cutting bed is what you would use - just tape off any unused surface so the vacuum/suction works much stronger.
Speedy100 with no vacuum table here -- can I still weld? That was so cool! Thanks.

Here is a good question for you, can you laser cut a fiberglass layup?

Hi J, are you getting the streaks around the cut? Or in the middle of the acrylic? What acrylic are you using, is it Trotec's or someone else?

@@JH-ht8vr 1/8" should be a good thickness for this, and cast acrylic is better quality than extruded. What lens are you currently using for the cut?
@@TrotecLaserCanada I'm using a 2", but also have a 1 1/2" if that would work better.
Great video! What glue/glueing method do you suggest for clear on clear acrylic? I have tried the methyl B glue but it leaves marks?
Thanks Tamrin, yea most glues will leave a mark, have you used a syringe and just applied in the small quantities around the edge?

What is the brand of glue again and is it available in the States
Hi sorry we're not sure on the brand of glue.
Great tutorial but the music got a little too loud for me. I’ve subscribed!
Doesn’t using your laser at 100% cause it to where out much quicker
James; I tried to create an account, but I'm in the US and your script doesn't allow for anyone outside Canada. Can this be corrected?
