@@Winterstick549Well it was her decision to write two bass parts on each of the Remain In Light songs. You should maybe wonder how Byrne felt about Adrian Belew being there, since he almost replaced him for good.
There’s an answer for this now. In Chris Frantz’s recent book, he says that Byrne hired a second bassist for the tour without consulting the rest of the band. This was when tensions between him and Tina were super high. The guy who was brought in was horrified when he realized what was going on, but Tina just worked out two bass parts per song with him instead of making an issue out of it and the tour proceeded. Byrne was always super weird about Tina from the start. Was honestly a jerk about it a lot.
He changed the way this song was played. If you listen to the Remain in Light original, then this version, then Stop Making Sense… Belew left his mark. (He was RAD, played with Bowie and Zappa)
One of my biggest regrets is not catching Talking Heads when Belew toured with them! The good news is that I got to see him with David Bowie, which was incredible...but, yes indeed, he really elevated "Crosseyed & Painless"!
There are a few Talking Heads shows to consider. Central Park 1980 is a seminal piece of sound and fury from everyone. Stop Making Sense 1984 must have been a fever of a show. But to be a person who got to see them live at CBGB's or the Mudd Club, man...I might have to take that.
She does have a great voice which you can hear on the Tom Tom Club’s records, but I’m pretty sure the voice you’re hearing that’s loud in the mix is Dolette McDonald
Adrian Belew? now that you mentioned it, it is something he would be interested in doing, I know they knew each other but never realized that he was on this one.
Do you know his history? Found by Zappa, tours. Seen by Bowie in Germany, goes and tours with him, seen by David Byrne, Joins talking heads, helps create Tom Tom Club. Outstanding resume!
Not only is Adrian Belew shreading here. He also appears to be playing the "Hendrix Guitar" which Hendrix burned at Monterey. The guitar ended up with Frank Zappa (as many people will know), and Belew actually played the guitar, and appears to do so here.
One of the greatest funk workouts of ALL TIME. That moment when the glitched keyboard riff starts at 3:38... Is it even physically possible to not want to move every muscle in your body at that point?
Yes I was knocked out by him at Bowie 78 live, especially Station to Station. I was then lucky to see him with The Heads in 1980. I run out of superlatives when talking of the man.
Spare yourself; RBC - Byrne is never gonna have the guts to reunite with his ex-friends. ...BUT you might have a chance of catching Harrison and Belew play this music with a great band called Turkuaz sooner or later...
Didn't know that Belew joined on the tour as well :-). Nice to see they were already doing the more relaxed start of the song already in 1980. In the live version on 'The name of this band is TH' (11/9/80), it jumpstarts in the more frantic part, just like on the studio version. The stop-making-sense version does have the relaxed start. I had imagined that was a later evolution of the song.
Is that Bernie Worrell on keyboard ? I know that he recorded several songs with them but not sure when he came on board while playing with P-funk . He is a legend !!!!!!! R.I.P

I wonder how Tina felt about that.

Ah. When musicians made music for the love of music and not for the pursuit of fame.
Devastating live performance of a great song
Adrian Belew is the special ingredient
And it killed Dave
And Steve Scales, Bernie Worrel, Busta Jones
If someone offered me a one time time travel experience, this concert
Dude, I've always said it would be a dead show for my time-machine trip......but this show has me reconsidering.

Adrian Belew is outstanding in this .
It must have been a great tour .
These are his people, maybe even more than King Crimson
It was superb! Saw them just outside of Toronto. Outdoors. A highlight of my life.
@@jamescolyn5960 where did Crimson play just outside Toronto? Thay must have been great.

Passage of time, the words the music are still current. You don't get any better than this.
Still channeling Fela Kuti around this time... Magnificent.
