Very in-depth and professional review. One of the best I have seen. A great start and looking forward to more.
After sighting in at 60 feet, I could easily cover 5 shots with a nickel ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL ! Truly a pleasure to shoot! Scope was easy to adjust for eye relief. Only problem the varmints must have seen it delivered lol!Update: So impressed with shot groups at 30 yards I purchased a Hammers 3×9 with adjustable Objective scope! Now a true nail driver!
This was a very professionally done review. I like the graphics components like highlighting the various Savage letters. It is great that you explained all the concepts, presuming there may be new shooters looking at the review. And thanks for not cursing - I always appreciate family friendly content with these reviews. You touched on some great points for consideration for anyone looking for this gun. I appreciate your soft spoken, clear and professional delivery.
The 2013 prices, though, made me cry in 2024. Regardless, subscribed! Thanks!
I have watched many many reviews and yours is by far the best I have ever seen. Even better than gun makers or gun mags have. Even down to the targeting and explaining everything so simple. Thumbs up for the best gun review on U-tube
I have watched a lot of review videos and I have to say yours was the best by far. Great job
Bought this firearm a week ago, awaiting delivery. I have to say for a first review you did a great job. A complete and comprehensive review.
That was the best review of this rifle I've seen. Very well organized, and I loved the detail. You might have sold me on this.
Really impressive job on your review. It's hard to believe this is your first attempt at a review video. Great information and nice graphics over the gun parts. I appreciate your calm demeanor as you share your information. Thanks so much.
Great Job Champion!! Excellent points that are important and relevant to someone looking for information on a product! You had the whole package to offer and people will be able to make an informed decision thanks to the detail and demonstration - Very well done!
Nice review. I've looked at this video before and did not comment. Saw it again today and remembered why I cam back to it. Well done!! I have this rifle in 7mm Rem Mag and have enjoyed it. Nice points made throughout!
Very good review. I pick my 111 rifle up today in just a couple of hours and I feel much better about my purchase after reviewing this video. I hope you make more with the same quality.
Very good review! Good presentation, informative and you paid attention to details (that I miss on many other channels) as e.g the explanation of the twist rate of the barrels drilling. Also a good mix of motion and stills and the usage of close-ups.All in all a video that would invite me to take a closer look at the Savage 111 (if I hadn´t bought a 116 recently :-) ). So keep up that good work - thumbs way up!!
For yor first review I say you did better than most that do reviews everyday. Job well done
Great review, just picked up a Savage 116 Weather Warrior. Amazing rifle!
Now this is how a gun review should be. Great job. I really like how you did the pillar bedding graphic add in.
Fantastic review! Way better than the all-too-common slopped together reviews. I really appreciate all the time and obvious effort you put into it, very well produced video. I am actually picking mine up on 7/7.... California has a painful 10 day waiting period so I'm killing time watching UA-cam vids of the 111. I'll look forward to enjoying more from you soon.
you my good sir need to make more videos, this is by far one of the most informative videos i have seen in a long time on here. im looking at getting the 111hunter xp in 308 for deer season this year and your review just sold me on it. subbed :D
Very well done video, I watch a ton of you tube gun reviews, and yours ranks very well. I gave up TV a while ago and have viewed thousands of gun reviews. The added graphics were very well done. Keep it up!
I'm considering this rifle along with the Ruger American as a Christmas gift for my son and want to make the right choice- this helped. Very nice job and hard to believe this was your first. Look forward to seeing more of your videos.
One of the best reviews I have seen.
Excellent review. Keep up the good work!
I just watched your video on the Savgae 111 and based on it.... and some carefull shopping, I bought one. I have watched alot of reviews on youtube and found yours to be quite valuable. I am impressed with your information and quality of review. A new subscriber to your channel, I look forward to all of your eviews..............Thanks!
Excelent video, keep them coming. The Savage has taken the lead over the Remington for my first rifle.
Thank you for doing a review with actual range shooting. It's very helpful to see how a gun shoots the different factory ammo. Good work on the review. Thank you.
This just might be the best rifle review video I've ever seen
Fantastic job on the review. Top notch.
Ive watched 100's of gun reviews and this one easily cracks the top 10!!! Subscribed and yes please make more. Cheers
Thanks Bill!
+bill dolan I agree. What an excellent job you did with the pictures of the scope zoomed in. Very nice job. Hard to believe that this is your first review. This is a professional gun review.
I just watched this again. It really is the perfect review! I really hope to see more.
Like everyone else says, awesome review, certainly the most complete and most professional I've seen on UA-cam so far.
I've been shopping rifles for a while now, you've helped me decide on the Savage. I'd love to see a review like this on the SKS too since I plan to pick one of those up as well.
Now if you have an SR9 you'd be my new favourite channel....
What an amazing review. Well done and very informative.
Excellent insight DV8EDD,
Thanks for pointing out those differences between the FCXP3 and the Hunter XP! Great!
Very good information about the rifle and about the ammunition, plan on getting one soon
Dude, very in-depth review. Thanks
you reviewed this gun like a pro, excellent excellent job man. im looking to get my first rifle myself so your review was very informative.
Terrific review! Well done
I just picked one of these up the other day used. Also chambered in 30-06.
I'm not big on any kind of synthetic or polymer stock or frame but this one's not too bad it's heavy and I like that. I have yet to take it out and see what the scope has been sighted to.
I got lucky with mine. The price was amazing and the condition of the rifle is damn near mint there's hardly a blemish on it. I took it apart and the first thing I noticed is how clean and even dust free the innards were. Whoever had this before me took damn good care of it.
Thank you for the excellent video. Stay safe, keep carrying and God bless 🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Love your review!! Very detailed and informative. I did subscribed and waiting for more videos. Tnx.
Very good video, Informative and well shot.
Nice job on the gun review. I am looking at acquiring a bolt gun chambered in .30-06 and after watching your review I will be looking into the Savage 11/111 Hunter. Thank you for sharing this.
savage are some of the most accurate guns right out of the box
I wish I could do something for the first time and have it turn out so well. You sound like a smart dude...must be the Canadian education! I have one of these but haven't fired it. I'm 57 and did not grow up with guns. I'll have to take a class and get after it. Thanks for the upload!
I've had this rifle for over 3 years now and over 300 rounds through and no problems. No jams, no rust, no issues. Great rifle.
Sorry but I do not know about any factory warranty's. Great rifle.
Very well done and informative video. Thanks for putting this together.
I’ve had this same rifle for years. It’s been tried and true for me. However I have never been a fan of the stock. I always have gotten a lot of flex. Through my experience of distance shooting, I have learned the stock plays a major role in accuracy. Just about the same as the action and barrel itself. I busted out my 111 once again and ordered a bell and Carlson Metalist stock for it. Took a very decent hunting rifle, and made it completely next level
awesome video and review! I'm getting one Savage as well, this vid really convinced me! thumb up from Toronto:)
This is a great review! Awesome job!!! I have a savage 111 .270
Thanks nubian1911...I've been watching a few of your vids, they're great, I will probably end up watching them all...but damn man, you've got a lot of guns! I'm envious!
I got the Savage 110 BA in .338 Lapua and love it! Nice video.
I love this rifle. I have the 7mm rem mag. With custom stock. And bushnell elite scope. Very good at long range. Went to the range today hit bulleyes every shot. Great gun highly recommended
Great video, you did an outstanding job. Please post more vids, I just subscribed!
thanks for the response and great review!
Yup you're absolutely right on that Paul, the correct way to measure groups is like you said, to measure from furthest edge to furthest edge of the furthest two shots, then subtract the diameter of the bullet to get your group. Completely agree with you. I picked the best three shots because I didn't have a benchrest to shoot from and the inconsistencies I believe were due to my inexperience. As for measuring from the center, that was inexperience in itself lol. I appreciate your comments!
Great video! Bought the rifle based on your review.
Excellent review! This sounds like the rifle for me.
Very thorough and great review. I shot my first deer with this same model last year and I must say its light, and fairly accurate. Even though my first time was with a borrowed gun, I am most likely purchasing this rifle very soon for the coming season. +1 for your review :)
I just bought this rifle today and immediately took it home for a good cleaning and then straight out to shoot. I couldn't have been happier with it. Accurate straight out of the box for the most part, feels good all around. This video helped me decide between the savage 111 and the Remington 770. I am pretty positive I made the right decision.
Very well done! Savage should hire you as a spokesperson. Excellent review on a fine rifle.
I enjoyed your video review " well done " I must say your video was very professionally done for your first review and ammo grouping again I say well done !!!!! , I own the Acu trigger Acu Stock modle in 22-250 and I am well pleased with Savage firearms and I am contemplating another purchase in a 30 caliber , Thank-you
This is the best gun review on youtube by far.
Just purchased the 2013 model. Love it....220 grain kicks like a mule but at 300 yards a quarter with 3 shots
just bought the savage 111 in .223, great video. Found the ammo info valuable
excellent review, i have it in 308, and needed to see how others like it.
Awesome review, best review by far of this rifle or any savage rifle i've seen on youtube.
I own the exact same rifle/package, but I must say I've had a nightmare of a time with the scope and rings/bases. Just when I thought I was shooting consistent and grouping well something would go funky and my shots would be all over. I'm picking up a new Redfield scope and rings tomorrow, we'll see how it does then!
Just got one of these todays, thanks for the video.
Good review, with one small but important criticism.
I would dispute the analysis you have made of your targets - IMO your groups are twice as large in MOA terms as you state. As I have always understood it, 1 MOA = all shots within a 1-inch-diameter circle at 100 yards (okay, 1.047" to be exact, but who cares?), not "1 inch from centre of group". I would also argue that you can't afford to "ditch" the outliers just to make the groups smaller (you're going to "pull" shots in the field too, and that matters when you're shooting at live game). However, to your GREAT credit, you went into detail as to exactly how you got the figures you did, and you showed all the results to the audience so we can offer criticism and try and duplicate them. That's how you do science. Hats off to you for that one.
Actually all shots within 1", measured from the centers of the holes.
I just got a Savage 111 .270 WIN a couple months ago. It came with a Nikon scope and I have to say...I LOVE THIS GUN! I got it for groundhogs and coyotes. I have shot several hogs at 100-200 yards. It is so solid! I went with savage because of the safety, the accutrigger, and because of the accuracy of my Savage ML II. Thanks for the video!
Good video and good information . Thanks for sharing
Very informative review. Good Job!
Great review/video!
Excellent review, thank you very much. I especially loved that you are also from southern Ontario so prices aren't "American."
I was originally going to buy a Tikka T3 Hunter, but seeing as I am only going to be hunting within 150 yards max, and this gun is half the price WITH a scope incl. I can't resist at least giving it a try.
Thanks again for the very comprehensive review. Best I've seen.
I would add that I agree...very well done...subbed.
Well Douglas, I finally decided on a rifle, and special ordered it. The McMillan Tac338 rifle chambered in .338 lapua. I appreciate your help, and ill be taking my hunt for the Kodiak bear sometime in the next year or so. Its a beautiful weapon, and I simply fell in love with it at first sight, and the bolt made it even better. Thanks for the help again.
Very good review. Thanks for the vid!
Thanks for the video, very well done. I went to my local Carter's Country and asked the sales rep what would be a good first hunting round for a first time hunter of my stature in south Texas? .270 or .308 was the reply. Then he handed me a Savage 11/111 Trophy Hunter XP with Nikon scope. Nice gun!
Outstanding presentation, thank you.
Doug...great review bud...just bought the Trophy Hunter myself with the Accutrigger..in .223 Remington. I guess it has a Nikon scope these days..Love the scope views....great comparison with the ammunition too.
Great review man! I just happen to order mine on the Canadian Cabela's web site as well but instead it said it came with an upgraded Weaver Simmons ballistic plex scope. Anyway, after watching this review its making the 7-10 business day delivery wait that much longer! Thanks for the review!
Excellent job D!! If Northern Alberta wasn't having a snowstorm right now, I'd be motivated to take my Savage out to the range. I have some doc's that I'll email you - pretty sure you'd appreciate having them!
out of all the american made sporting rifles in the less than 400$ range the savage seems to come out on top, your excellent review made me want to get this rifle in 308 cal. i love the fact you can buy the whole kit and kaboodle in one. for a modest price and still have a decent set up. fantastic job!!!
I own the same rifle bought mines in 2011 still have it when it came out the scoped mounted was a Simmons scope to which the rifle still has. Great review!
Great Review!
This review was awesome and Ill be looking forward to more! Well done, subbed! :P
I have this rifle in the package as well and this has to be probably one of the best if not the best complete refile review on youtube. I am dead serious I've seen hundreds and good job buddy. Only thing is that is not how you measure groups, you take your group of 3 shots lets say measure from center-center the 2 most farthest shots. That is your inch moa grouping
That is the best review i have seen. its good to see one on a canadian. I live in whitehorse yt.
Damn nice review I like it. I own different guns but I am really intrigued by this one, especially for the price
Great review. Thanks!
Good review. Nicely detailed. I will say you did a pretty good job considering the 8 lb trigger pull and "different" sand bag rest. Try proper rifle bags, one under the fore end and one behind the grip. You can set the elevation by sliding the rear bag forwards or backward. The fine settings by just squeezing the rear bag. You'll find it much more steady. Like it's been noted, you were actually around 2 MOA. Propper technique and more practice with maybe a lighter trigger setting and you should be able to halve those groups with many factory rounds. You could also try other bullet weights. I've yet to shoot a Savage that won't group around 1" with one factory load or another for 3 shots. I'm not sure if you're comfortable with switching triggers but if you are you see a good improvement with their Accutrigger. After I shoot the three shots, I let it cool completely before starting another group. I usually shoot my 22 while waiting for the other rifle to cool down.
Nice review! saw you did bow too, thumbs and subscribed!
fantastic review bud.
Good Points! Thanks for the info regarding fitting Accutriggers...wasn't sure about that one. Giving the mount screws a once over with a screw driver is definitely a good idea, thanks for sharing your insight...
...cheers,
Wow best review ever!
I was going with the Rem 700 in 300 Win Mag as a late Christmas present for myself. Now I'm considering the the Savage 111.
Douglas ... This was a very informative video! Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work. I'm now subbing to you.
Nice rifle for its price thanks for the video thinking on getting this one in 30-06
I have this same rifle, minus the scope package, bought at Cabela's last year. It was an excellent deal even without the scope.
Having a .308 already (Ruger American, another excellent gun, also have it in .243), I went with the .300WinMag, not having a magnum, and wanting one.
This rifle is very accurate, and smooth operating. Despite stories I've heard, the recoil is really rather light. Might be because of the very soft butt pad.
I placed a Nikon Prostaff 4-12x on mine.
Despite this version not having the Accutrigger, I find the trigger more than acceptable. Nice crisp let off. Mine measured just over 5lbs.
I'm glad I bought it, and would recommend it to anyone.
Awesome job sir. Very professional.
Great review. It was very informative. I am just getting into hunting and was considering the Remington 770 but glad I didn't purchase that. I ended up ordering the Savage 11/111 Trophy Hunter in 03-06 for a little over $500 OTD at Basspro. I also looked at the 11/111 Hunter but I like the Accutrigger and Nikon scope better so I thought it was smarter to pay $100 more now. I also picked up a Redfield Rebel 10X42 binoculars.
I can't wait to go on my 1st hunt and thanks to again for the info
Amasing review!!!!
Very good review.
Well done review, the voice audio was a little low but well done over all. I just picked up the Trophy Hunter 111 XP in .308 with the Nikon 3x9-40 scope with BDC (bullet drop comensator) and love the spoton website. I am hitting the range tomorrow to adjust the accu-trigger since it seems like it was set to maximum pull.
I have the 110 model 30-06 bought it in 1990 this was my second rifle purchase. This inexpensive rifle is very accurate. I upgraded through the years Ruger and Remington rifles however the old Savage cane hold it's own. The old Savage is a keeper.
