I took the plunge and put in for the nonresident special tag and drew. I used go hunt to find the highest probability of drawing and so glad I did. Killed a 330” 5x6 on opening day. Solo. Thank you Randy and go hunt for all the info.
Wyoming system is a money making scheme to the max. With that said it is easy to understand and navigate. Just wish I would of understood I needed to be more proactive about it at 20. Now that I will be 40 in a few months and ready to start checking off Bucket list items I’m way behind the 8 ball. All you young guys buy those points now! Don’t wait till your 39 to start like me.
Decided to go to Colorado on a training hunt this year. I'm still 1-2 years away from a wyoming general tag so I want to figure this elk hunting thing out with an over the counter tag first so I don't waste my years of point building when I do get a general tag in wyoming.
Thanks for providing this information. Some of the states are really confusing (Are you listening Montana G&F?). The info you discuss is really valuable.
Click the tab “Draw Odds” and that will display the odds/demand for each unit. Click the “unit” on the left and it will show tag numbers, applications, and success rates for the last five years.
People from all over the country are buying the points thinking they will one day go. But every year during tag applying season they check their budget and free time and decide this isn’t the right year to plan a hunting trip to Wyoming and decide to put it off for another year and just buy the $50 point.
Randy, I greatly appreciate your content. However being a lifelong Wyoming resident and outdoors person i have seen out of state people totally disrespecting my state and all that it has to offer. Therefore I am very jaded about out of state hunters. I know a few bad apples ruin it for the many, but i have just seen too much crap in my 30+ years of experience.
Hey guys, sorry that the QR code doesn't work; here is a link to sign up for the GOHUNT INSIDER: alnk.to/flxwtqh Using that link, you will get Fresh Tracks+ and The Elk Hunting E-Guide + $50 in the GOHUNT gear shop!
I had been contemplating buying a subscription to GOHUNT for a while and after watching this video I decided to do it. I used the link to sign up for GOHUNT but what do I need to do to get the Fresh Tracks+ subscription now? Love all of the content and thanks for helping Easterners learn what it takes to get started hunting out West!
The timing makes a ton of sense, as all the flight data and last year’s data isn’t completed until around the first part of March. In addition, the timing allows for changes to be made in response to winter severity. In reality, the deadline is even a bit too early to see the full impact of the winter.

Congrats, sounds like you put in the time to make it happen.

Thanks Randy! As always, very useful information.
Dang! I just bearly got this video. I been wondering if Randy decided not to do it this year. Love it last year.

I have a GoHunt insider membership, but not sure where I can find the lower demand units with higher NR tags available?

Thx, I seem to understand Wyomings process and find it easier than Montanas. Love the Wy hunt!
Montana wrote the book on how to overcomplicate a draw system. Wyoming is very logical.

Bingo! Tons of these point buyers will never even put in for a tag.
I’d be lost without you
Huge thanks.
Is there a pronghorn video coming out ?
In May. That deadline is May 31.
Randy which areas would you recommend
We don’t give units. That’s the fun of the research - to find the unit most appealing for your situation and expectations.
I'm just over here raising my own elk n deer
It's a joke people not a dick don't take it so hard
How do you buy a point in Wyoming? I can’t find it on the website anywhere, and it’s not an option when I try to apply.
You can buy a preference point July 1 - Oct 31
I like the visuals, but they need to be bigger with a larger whiteboard
Thanks for the note.
Excellent video, I’m 66 good shape probably my last chance for a elk, no points, any suggestions. Thanks
If you can afford it try the special since they raised the price very few people are applying.
Last chance? Spend the money on a guide. If actually harvesting an elk is important, hire a guide.
Go cow elk hunting. Points don’t apply and draw odds are much better.
@@phild9813 thanks for info 👌
@@bardownsnipe thank you
Wait till they start letting them sale the landowner tags

Most crimes committed in Wyoming are by residents !

Out of state hunters are paying through the nose. Guess what they would do if they lost all that money. Think about it hunters. Yes it would go away
Wyoming not having the seasons figured out at application deadline and not conducting the draw until late May is a complete crock of 💩
Montana doesnt draw antelope till august, makes for some hard time off planning even for residents...

@ valid points, so then why don’t they move back the draw deadline?
