The views are impressive. Currently, I am investigating areas for retirement away from Washington State. West Virginia seems to have many of the things my wife and I appreciate
Absolutely! That’s exciting to hear! Personally, i think West Virginia does have many similarities to Washington state in that the weather is fairly mild but very rainy. The pace is a bit slower because there aren’t as many big cities. Being originally from Denver, it was a big adjustment when we first moved out here but we’ve come to adore the area and I’d definitely recommend it! Happy to help you look for a place if you choose to make it your retirement destination 🙌
I am from Timor-Leste (an Island close to Australia). I used to go to West Virginia University (class 2019). Seeing this makes me missing Motown and WVU. Great video!
Have always wanted to move here. Can you live here without a car? Like just using bus and that rail to get to work? If you have time to answer, that would be great. Looks like a cool college town! WV is under rated, for sure!
They have the PRT: Personal Rapid transit, which was to prototype for the trams at many major airports. It is an aging system but it goes to all of the main campuses. It depends on where you live as to transportation. The city is very spead out over several large hills!! I went to the University for all 3 degrees, including my doctorate in education.
Hi! Congratulations and welcome to Morgantown! If you already have a living situation organized then first thing I would recommend doing after you move is check out the whole area by car (either with a rental car, buy a car, or get a ride from someone) just to see the whole area - it was so beneficial to me when I first moved year to drive around and understand the difference parts of morgantown and also come to see how many hills there are and it’s layout. Coopers Rock state park is a beautiful place if you’re looking for some cool photos to send back to your family about your new area! It has beautiful canyon views! Hope this helps!
I lived in Morgantown since the early 1970's & I've seen it evolve over the decades. It is not the humble city I grew up in and enjoyed as a teenager, after the 1990's development outpaced the roads and infrastructure. Dense wooded areas have been replaced by urban development & student housing. And downtown?, don't walk the street after dark unless you have some friends with you. I'm moving as soon as soon as possible and not looking back.
I can say that West Virginia does not have neighboring Pennsylvania's 4.5% inheritance tax. And the property taxes are much lower. I hope to visit Morgantown in a few weeks -- looks promising.
I visited Morgantown when my Grandson was born in April. I found the streets to be very poor, narrow and confusing. People honked at me for not going through the light when I had no idea where I could turn. I was always afraid that I would either drive off of the road or get hit for driving too slowly. It was odd to see the Stadium right across the street from the Children's Hospital. And when I attempted to venture out to Walmart, the roads were riddled with potholes and felt very unsafe. I am from Ohio where it is flat. I could never imagine living in an area with so many hills and trees. I am sure it is a very beautiful place for many people, but it is not for me. And the Real Estate agent is hot. Just wanted to say that. That would be the only reason to move there.
It's an old city and they have not widened the roads in the old part of town. I went to the university for my degrees and got a good education. The part of the country (including Eastern Ohio) uses salt to melt the snow and ice, and that really tears up the roads and cars. As for the Stadium being across from the Children's Hospital, I agree that probably wasn't the best idea, but the Stadium was there first. And there was not much room left to build the Children's Hospital to keep it near the rest of the Med Center and Med School.
Maybe down by the Mon River, but the land goes up quickly from the river. In all the years I lived there, I never worried about floods. You are probably thinking of area down state.
Drive safe, people here run red lights? How about obey the traffic lights so we don't have to drive on egg shells. That's like saying watch out for drunk drivers. No... don't drink and drive! Don't give people like that a pass.
DO NOT move to Morgantown.... It's an open sewer pit.... The junkies outnumber the tax payers & nothing is changing for the better.... Education for children is trash & we are one of the poorest (if not the poorest) states in the nation.. Do ur self a favor, just visit... We are falling apart!
It's a college town with 30,000 students. College towns are ALWAYS dead during the day like this. Everyone is in class. Just saying. I've seen videos of night life here...kids get lit after 6 or 7....Morgantown is a big party school.
Oh, thank you for continuing the old rumors from the Kennedy era in the 1960s. I was born and raised in the northern panhandle of WV, ( steel mills area), got a good public school education, went to WVU and got my doctorate in science education. It allowed me to get a job writing training materials and certifying instructors for high-tech companies and astronauts. No too bad for a 'hick.'
West Virginia...Home of Katherine Johnson, one of NASA's African American FEMALE "human computers" whose calculations of orbital mechanics (including launch and reentry trajectories, launch windows, and emergency return paths) were critical to the success of the first and all subsequent crewed space flights up to and including the Space Shuttle program. When it was discovered that the IBM 7090 computer calculations for the launch and reentry trajectories of John Glenn's Mercury 7 space mission were flawed, Johnson corrected the calculations faster than the actual computer could. Particularly because there were problems with the heat shields on the space capsule, her corrections to the IBM computer's miscalculations for reentry more than likely saved lives. Hillbilly? Mmmmm... not so much.
Everything is amazing about Motown!! The people, the landscape, the university
WV is underrated for sure, I had a great experience for the 2 years i was there.
And then you left
@@Mklpz000 Only there for college, i’m from georgia.
So how was it for non whites? Were the people culturally open minded?

Is there any recreationally zoned off grid land for sale near by? How expensive is land out there.
Hi, while I don’t focus on land for sale, I’d be happy to refer someone who does if you’d be interested!
No interest anymore, but I used to live there. Did enjoy your video. Great job.
Thanks!
You left out information about Copper's Rock. Great fishing area.
Ah yes, great point! Coopers Rock is a beautiful area! Will definitely highlight that in a future video ☺️
Hi,Great video ! Can you tell me if the town has a VA medical center ?

Can you help with rentals?
What does Morgantown and surrounding areas offer for retired seniors?
I can say that West Virginia does not have neighboring Pennsylvania's 4.5% inheritance tax. And the property taxes are much lower. I hope to visit Morgantown in a few weeks -- looks promising.
Hi,
How much houses cost here, how much are property taxes and sales taxes?
Hi! There is a wide range of home prices and rates available. Are you looking for something specific?

I completely agree, I wish people in town would drive safer!
She gave good advice. Google "defensive driving".
I've lived here 3 years, I've seen maybe 6 people run red lights

Are there owner financing deals available?
I thought Charlestown WV had WV college campus?
It may have a branch of the University, the the main, original campus is in Morgantown.
Hicks and hillbillies.
