    Thank you, just to hear Peter's voice is pure pleasure. He is not only the greatest white blues guitar player but a terrific person, no ego and no animosity toward anyone. Peter has a direct connection between his heart, head his fingers and a Higher Power. He blessed us with his gift letting us feel his pain through his music. His music will live on through us,. His loyal fans. RIP Peter

      Fantastic guitarist but a rubbish dad, he'd walked out on his daughter when she was 2 weeks old & wouldn't recognise Liam as his son. Many creative people are deeply flawed !

      @@theseeker4642sometimes relationships are hard to understand and it's hard to judge a person by the way they act toward children they have no control of their participation in that relationship. I do not understand him denying his son.

    His voice got sweeter as the years went by...he was an incredible guitarist, singer, song writer and harmonica player. A beautiful human being.

    Thank you for all those beautiful early photographs,they were a complete joy to see and to be reminded of the gorgeous man he was back in the sixties when we were young. He has always had a little bit of my heart since that time. Really liked the empty chair at the end very fitting I think. Xx

      Thanks Mary, I don't own the old pics. The one at the end I took a few days before Peter passed. I was in the area and felt compelled to visit the flats he lived in as a teenager. I imagined what it must have been like for him, dreaming his dreams and learning his craft in that tiny apartment! Hope you are well Xx

      He was a fascinating man wasn't he....and his gift was sublime... people who come after will I think, continue to be captivated by him, his strange sad story but ultimately by his incredible music...

    I had a little smile to myself when I saw Rolling Stone’s All Time Greatest Guitarists. They placed the self confessed “decent rhythm guitarist” John Lennon at number 55, a couple of places ahead of Peter. Now, John was a genius, no question and he is like a god to me but Peter Green could do things on a guitar that John didn’t even know could be done. Had Lennon been alive and saw that list I expect he would have written a typically scathing, badly typed letter to the magazine and told them in no uncertain terms to get a grip.

    • @MrJameswingham
      @MrJameswingham  3 роки тому +5

      Peter would've been similarly dismissive of being included in any such list. He would have placed Hank Marvin way above himself too!

      @@davidrobinson2776 I believe he did and I believe it frightened him; hence always wanting to take a back seat and be 'normal' like everyone else. I also think he was appalled by rock star egotists and wanted to remove himself from that entire area.

      @@MrJameswingham His fear in his own ability is fascinating. Add to that his experiences with acid and the like makes for a perfect storm I suppose. Sadly, I have mentioned his drug experiences which I swore I would stop doing. Peter never made them his excuse.
      I wonder if you have seen the interview his son did with the German guy who was the person who met Peter at the airport in Munich? It’s very interesting and the guy is more in line with Peter’s view of the events rather than the band.

    • @MrJameswingham
      @MrJameswingham  3 роки тому +2

      @@davidrobinson2776 I think Peter did mention that he regretted the acid but he also cited an experience in New Orleans, with a Warlock he got trapped with one night who "stole my soul". This was in 1972 and his playing was never the same again. Liam is a good friend of mine and I supplied him with names etc when he decided to start digging. He was ready to get furious with Rainer but it quickly dawned on him that he (Rainer) had been set up as the patsy in this whole scenario. That interview is very good and it's worth mentioning that Liam didn't know that Rainer is very unwell when it was conducted.

    I hadn’t fully appreciated how wonderful Peter was until I saw him in Spring 1970 at the Redcar Jazz Club, probably during his last full tour with Fleetwood Mac as I know he stepped back in to help them complete a tour when one of those who replaced him was unavailable for some reason. That concert was a benchmark for many other acts from then on, and most fell well short! RIP maestro.

    • @MrJameswingham
      @MrJameswingham  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the info. I know they played Redcar the Saturday before I was born, (14th Sept 1969), so I have a good excuse for not attending! Peter re-joined briefly in Feb 1971, after Jeremy Spencer quit suddenly. I only got to see Peter in the 90's. Jeremy is still sounding remarkable...

      @@MrJameswingham James, I have a book called, ‘Backstage Pass: REDCAR JAZZ CLUB’, which lists all the artists and, mostly, what they were paid. For the 14/9/69 gig they received £425.00, and when I saw them on 3/5/70, they received £450.00. Local band Government supported them on both occasions, and their lead singer was local lad David Coverdale. As a matter of interest Free’s Paul Rodgers was also from Teesside. Fleetwood Mac appeared at the Jazz Club quite a few times, although I haven’t added them up and I only saw them the one time - what a shame! I also saw there The Nice, Jethro Tull, Cat Stevens, Free, King Crimson, Fairport Convention, Lindisfarne, Heads Hands & Feet, The Tony WIlliams Lifetime (inc Jack Bruce & John McLaughlin), Yes, Roxy Music and maybe one or two others. It was not a huge place and small enough to get a reasonable view from most locations, and I don’t think it felt stuffy and claustrophobic, so you could enjoy the music without that sort of unpleasant sensation. It was a step down in size from the likes of the Newcastle City Hall, but had a much better feeling of being closer to the performers, who were only on a stage about a metre from the floor. Great little club.

    Thank you so much for the upload! Really nice to hear Peter in more recent years sounding so good. I have seen some other interviews where he seemed a little off and no offense meant to him at all. RIP to a hero, legend and super sweet person. 7:10 for a little more of Peter's sweet generous charm 'It sounded so much like the record. I could almost hear the crackling from the record.' Such a high praise coming from someone like Peter. Such a humble beautiful person. He was also quoted (I believe by Bernie Marsden) saying when he played some of the early Fleetwood Mac stuff to Peter more recently when he went to visit him, Peter described one of his incredible solo's as 'messy'. You will be missed Peter but I hope you are in a better place now

      It does make you wonder. I met him three times over about five years (the second time was when the band I was in was supporting him and Splinter Group) and after the first time, when he was very pleasant but seemed a little vague and 'fuzzy at the edges' each time I met him he seemed more 'with it' and switched on. The last time was when an artist friend of mine, Brian Matravers, had given me the surprise present of a painting he'd done of Peter (which is still up on my wall now). I took it to a gig, and when Peter came out I showed it to him, and asked him to sign it (I'd taken a black felt-tipped pen with me for the occasion). He was very interested in it and asked me about it, and I told him it had been painted after the artist had come along to the gig we'd supported him on, and when he signed it (as Peter Greenbaum, his full name) he said - with a laugh - "I've never signed a painting before!"
