    I really enjoy Samsung's camera this year but there's one thing I prefer on almost every Vivo phone which uses vivo's chips, which is the low light HDR, it just makes every tiny light look alright and controlled while maintaining the overall bright look of the night mode I tend to like

  • @linuxgeex
    @linuxgeex Рік тому +26

    The Vivo suffers from excessive local contrast enhancement, which creates contrast and saturation in detailed areas but causes gradients and curves to appear weirdly crushed. There was also annoying jello in the Vivo video, which reveals a rolling shutter. Today that should be considered a rookie error in the design of a quality phone camera. Samsung's focus wasn't as consistent as Vivo's. That was surprising. Esp for the zooms. Samsung's fake Bokeh had more reliable object detection, but Vivo's did a better job of looking like a real large lens - Samsung's is a simple gaussian blur. Vivo also seemed to have better noise control. Whether that was due to actually gathering more light, or by superior AI noise reduction - that would require more detailed testing. However that AI noise reduction seems to be responsible for the weird beard inpainting. More training required. So if you want higher video resolution, get the Samsung. If you don't care about that, get the Vivo.

      @@GadgetsBoy There's two tests I'd like you to add, if you're interested. Both are low-light tests. The first? Shoot the Moon. I'm finding that the new cellphone cameras are refusing to focus on the Moon, and/or they completely blow it out so there's no detail, just a yellow/white disc. The second? Find a light garden without ambient lighting and shoot a model with the lights behind them when the sky is dark. Again I'm finding modern phones struggle and blow out the lights, esp when there's a person in the scene. Cyan Yellow and Magenta lights in particular end up white with a pale colour fringe. An example from your video would be the stoplight tree. The lamps were partially blown out by the Vivo - the centres were white where they should have been vibrant red/yellow/green. The Samsung didn't blow it out, but suffered from hazy edges due to internal lens reflections. The Vivo's coatings made it a hero for that challenging scene. Maybe the internal reflections affected Samsung's PDAF?

Samsung is mostly over sharpening anyway though. also the 1-inch will make things more burry automatically anyway, providing more depth of field because of the bigger sensor size making natural blur without using portrait mode. Its hardware + software perfect combination duo that made its camera brilliant
