The Problem is with a heli safe mark is that the top bead on your heli relies on the weight of the lead and the resistance of a fish to pop the bead off including a no trace bead. If you hook a fish the lead ejects and then the line parts for whatever reason there is no weight there to pull the bead free and you end up with the fish trailing the amount of line around or getting tethered. If you fish with a fixed lead on a heli you will always have the lead on to so the fish can use the resistance to free the top bead and only be left with a hook link. That’s the reason I wouldn’t use one because to be honest it goes against the mechanics of a safe rig.
Hi James. Many thanks for your comment and a very good point. I see your point but in my opinion, even with just a bare heli safe on the end of the line i feel that it would still be enough to catch on weed or snags and allow the rig to pull up enough to eject the bead and allow the rig to pull clear of the line. I find it difficult to see that just plain line would ever get snagged on anything unless the fish swam around and around something. In that case i don't think there is any setup out there that would combat this. In the case of say a crack off where the leader and the rig are left in the pond, if a fish picks up the rig the lead will still be present which intern will allow the fish to pull the rig to the end of the leader and eject safely. I guess there are arguments for and against this topic but my main point was the swivel and bead setup. There is also the option the put the small insert into the help safe so it will lock and not allow the lead to eject. Great comment though mate and a very good point.
Thats very true mate. In my view though, it is less likely for a single piece of line to get snagged on anything. I guess no rig is 100% safe but the heli setup in my view is much safer than say a leadclip setup where the fish will defiantly be trailing a leader.
Well done mark,I remember the old cooling towers from when I went to swarkestone over ten years ago, nicely explained safety set up,no need for any sort of dodgy rigs anymore
Cheers Phil. Those cooling towers are a very prominent feature on the landscape and look really good in a sunrise. The drone gets drawn to them every time. You will be amazed at the stuff that's going on on my syndicate at the moment. Death rigs, people shitting next to the swims. No need for it. Hope your enjoying the vlogs and thank you for taking the time to comment. 👍🎣🎣😁
Congrats Mate on your media gain well deserved mate drone footage is amazing hopefully a fish will show soon for you mate will be well deserved cheers Geoff
Cheers Geoff. I was so confident of a fish that session. I'm off to my syndicate for a quick night session so hopefully a fish will grace my matt. 😊👍🎣🎣
I will do mate 😆trouble is with me I’m not patient enough for red house I’ve known people to fish it for weeks on end and not catch owt, plus I’m not a fully experienced carp angler, I grew up doing a lot of coarse fishing only recently got into carp fishing in the last year or 2 😆
Big Algae bloom going on there - watching all the RH diaries again - started my campaign on there in July and have kept Marker Rod use to a bare minimum as the lake has been very busy. Starting to quieten down - I would say there is another 4-6 weeks of opportunity on there for a fish before it shuts up for the winter. Have you heard of any fish coming out Dec, Jan or Feb?
Congrats on getting the bait company work, well deserved as a result of your top notch film quality. They are some interesting anglers to work with, enjoy the Linch Hill sessions (if it's not been sold)
Cheers Paul. Nice comment as always 👍. Tom was a pleasure to work with. Still early days as yet but hopefully all will be good and I get to make lots of films for them. I did hear rumours of linch hill being sold. Even if the owners change, the lakes and the fish will still be the same 😁🎣🎣.
Great video as always Mark, I really do enjoy them. Just sussed which company you were talking about, very high profile at the moment but the bait I’ve had off them has been excellent. Keep up the good work.
Hi Mark. Having just watched this vlog makes me think that you must be No 1 at doing them, The filming is superb and so precise. Congratulations on the bait company contract Keep it up 👍🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Hi Andrew. Thank you so much for your comment. It takes alot of work to do these vlogs. Not only the filming but also the editing. Comments like yours make it all worth while.👍😁. I just wish I could get a fish or 2 to show the camera. Once again, thank you for your support. 👍🎣😁🎣🎣
Another great vlog mate. Congratulations on getting asked to work for a bait company. You really deserve it. You’re camera work is second to none. Hopefully I’ll bump into you on red house soon for a chat. Tight lines mate 👍🏻
Cheers Rich. Your comment means alot. It's early days as yet filming for the bait company so will see how it goes. I really enjoy the work though and being able to use my camera skills to there full potential. Also getting to work with 2 of the country's top anglers is good. Redhouse is still battering me but its all good. Its a fantastic place to be. Hope to catch up soon. 👍😁🎣🎣
Hi Mark,to be honest mate the only safe rig set up is a running rig with no actual resistance what so ever!!!!!!! If you crack off or snap off from a fish! You might not get a very good drop back indication but ultimately the fish trails nothing apart from the hooklength if you separate! Just my opinion pal thanks for the entertainment Danboy👍
Hi Daniel. That is a very good point. The running rig set up is probably the best set up out there for bite indication but, in the event of a cut off the fish can still be trailing line. No setup is 100% safe. But the skills and experience of the angler can make the rigs as safe as possible. With a helicopter rig, if set up properly, The fish will leave the leader behind 90% of the time and only have the hooklink to deal with. I have seen some terrible setups in my time where the rig is not setup properly and fish have been tethered or even died because of it. We lost a 30lb common from our syndicate only last week due to bad angling where a barbed hook was used ( barbless rule). Fish got tethered in the weed and the angler pulled for a break. Nothing was said to the owner or the bailiff and the fish ended up dying. The fish was tethered in around 4ft of water so could have easily been saved had something been said. But the angler obviously didn't want to get found out for using barbed hooks. When the fish was finally retrieved, it had 2 barbed hooks in its mouth. Once again, thank you for your comment. Be lucky 😃👌🎣
A Carpy Connection yes Mark like you say no matter what mate no rig is 100% safe I think it’s down to the anglers responsibility to get things as safe as possible but not every angler has a good conscience! I use barbless hooks unless told not to for a few reasons one is that it’s easy to unhook both in the cradle and in case of a snap off and fish as got better chance of shedding it Plus In opinion barbless cause less damage to the fishes flesh, and I use a lead clip system with the tail rubber quite loose over the clip,I might lose a lead or two from playing fish etc but I no it’s a safer option👍cheers Dan
Great vlog mark enjoying all of them redhouse is a very hard water people have fished it over 3 years and not had a bite.what mic do you use?looking at buying one for my canon 760D and go pro
Cheers Tony. Thanks for commenting. Redhouse is by no means easy. The fish very rarely show themselves if at all. It's a good challenge though and I enjoy every minute on there. I use a K&F Concept lavilier mic. I got it from amazon. About £90. Its bang on for the money. I also use a Rode shotgun mic which is also very good. 👍😁🎣🎣
Hi Mark another easy viewing vlog...What reel do you use for spodding? Congrats ref bait company You'll enjoy it with S C great character.. Until next vlog...
Cheers pal. Your comments are very much appreciated. I use the shimano Aerlex XTB 10000 spod reel. It's a great reel and has a better retrieve ratio than the Emblem spod reel. I met Scott the other day. He's deffinately a character. I'm looking forward to working with him. Thank you for your suport. 😁👍🎣🎣🎣
Hi Rich. I use a Mavic Air in full manual shooting mode with polar pro filters. I only fly over Redhouse Depending on the wind direction And flight path of the planes. If they are coming over the lake I don't fly. I also only take it up a couple of hundred feet at most. 👍😁
Hi ozzy. Thanks for watching and subscribing. Make sure you watch and like my other vlogs so you get the full story on my redhouse journey😊. I use 2 different sets of rods in my fishing. I use 9ft 3.5lb test scopes on my syndicate as it's a small water and most of the fishing I do there is margin fishing. On redhouse I use 12.6ft Harrison Torrix Te specials due to long range fishing I do on there. As for best carp rods, it all depends on your budget really. If money is no object then harrison or century make exceptional rods and you can you can have them made to your own spec. If your on a budget then most companies make good budget rods. I don't think there is a deffinative answer to your question. Thank you for commenting though. 😁🎣🎣🎣👍
Hi mate. Thanks for your comment. Its a club water. Part of the pride of derby complex in long Eaton. You can also fish redhouse on the derby railway AC ticket. 👍😁🎣🎣
Hi mate. Cheers for your comment. I really appreciate it. I use premier pro to edit the vlogs with. I did use imovie but I find premier pro is alot better. Lead on or lead off How do you no the other end wont get tangled/caught up first and not the lead end? You dont its impossible.
