I completed replacing the bypass valve on my 2020 Rav4 using Hot Shots BD Garage method of removing valve from existing hose. Took me about half an hour to wrestle off valve using three different size flat head screw drivers as prying devices. Installed a hose clamp on install of new part. Bled the coolant system with a no leak funnel kit ($20 on Amazon). Total cost out of pocket cost $75. Got quoted at Toyota dealer $700 for repair. No more "engine maintenance required" warning. Thanks Hot Shot!

Do you have the part numbers for the upper and lower coolant bypass valves?

I purchased a Chinese manufactured aftermarket part compatible with part #16671-25010. Amazon price $39.95. I don’t believe there is a lower coolant valve as he mentioned. No issues as of the time of this reply.

Toyota is being trash lately. Look at what's going on with their engines in the new Tundras. They're destroying their reputation.

Hey guys, this seems to be a manufacturing issue with Toyota, for this car. Has any of you checked with Toyota and asked them what the story is? ... i mean, their mistake, and we pay for it. ... i don't think so!

There was a class action lawsuit started on Monday 6/10/24 regarding this exact issue. There is a defect in the control valve and Toyota knew about it and didn't notify customers. The defect caused cracked valve, defective valve, electrical system problems, engine problems and overheating problems. The lawsuit alleges that they knew of the defect and should be responsible for the repairs, issue a recall or buy customers vehicle.

My Rav4 2019 started showing this warning few days ago only when I turn on the AC otherwise it doesn't show up , also the coolant tank is 99% empty (topped it 2 months ago) which is worrisome
This is a bad rep for Toyota and its reliability as a consumer-trusted company

Just about to change this on my rav 4 due to the same code, after researching online and confirming with a shop. It opens the valve when the ac kicks on from what I can tell. If I were to drive without the ac on, it's very unlikely that the code will pop up.
