    I've learned a lot from you and your channels. Your knowledge of studio one and recording technique have been helpful and the way you expain it aswell. . It's very efficient as I have adopted some of these techniques. Also, it's very important to outsource someone else to give your mix a go , hearing.
    Your songs different from the way you mix master and record it. Well, i can only speak for myself , as it's played a huge role in the way i do things now. Having a different par of ears experienced is important no matter if you're the greatest engineer out there. Just hearing my music differently has spark.Many great ideas that snowballed into new writing and work flow Techniques. I appreciate you taking the time in your life to make these videos . I surely know they've helped me. 🍻

    Great video... about the recording the basic idea for a riff; i have around 300 cell phone recordings of me singing riffs, parts of musics and even, whole songs!! lol. The thing is we never know when ideas will drop on your inbox, lol.. so, i do think that knowing the basics of singing, sometimes can be very useful not to miss those moments of great ideas.

      Yeah dude, you bring up a great point with singing...sometimes you can just hum the idea and make that into a riff

    about to start my journey of capturing best sound / use of plugins. so much to learn. Got two amps and two cabs and two different types of mics to try for real world and then interested in plugins and reamping which I'm still highly confused over best use of?

    Sometimes I'll get a melody/riff in my head while I'm out and about and I just grab my phone and hum it. People in the grocery store probably think I'm nuts, but it works. I believe I read somewhere that's what EVH did and it led to Girl Gone Bad.

    I love this video. its so nice to see someone going trough the process of recording a song from start to finish. You have some good tips in this video, i will put them to good use on my own recordings.
    i always record the initial idea and then have 3 tracks, 1 to the left and 1 to the right and keep the 1 in the middle wich i use to record the punch in pieces on (this track is deleted once the guitar parts are recorded). Even if i know how to play the song in 1 go, i try to record every section differently so its easier to punch in parts i'm not happy with. i have like 20 songs and parts of it on my pc, waiting to get finished
    All the full songs i recorded are 50% finished....no bass, no drums and no mixing /mastering.

    This fits what i'm looking for down to a PERFECT T. I know how to play intermediately, exact same genre tastes as you, have some basic gear like my plugins and drum plugins, and do the same thing you do for my first riff, but the rest of this video taught me how to build off my 1 riff loop I make every time before giving up! EDIT: When you double track and want a different tone for each - I like changing the L PAN to have slightly less gain, but keep everything else the same. I find it keeps the same tone for the song but gives a more "pick attack"y sound

    i personally use the metronome to find my bpm then put a kick on beat 1 and snare on beat 9 for slower drums or kick on 1, a snare on 5, kick on 9, snare on 13 and both work with rides or crashes on 1, 5, 9, 13 good solid start if you wanna make your own drum beat and edit it to the song as you go along but do it 4 bars at a time and duplicate the basic beat each time

    • @jameshipps1571
      @jameshipps1571 3 роки тому +1

      you can then switch up the kicks like 1, 7 then snare on 9 or kick on 1, snare on 5, kick on 11, snare on 13 these are both simple rock beats add triplets where necessary go crazy with fill ect. and bobs your teapot a custom made drum part :)

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  4 роки тому +1

      I don't use any of the mastering services because most of those aren't done with software programs. You want a real person listening and mastering, so you can consult with any local studio near you. I actually have had a friend master my albums in his studio (not certain if he's doing this for other bands but will check)

    Hi Jason. I found this video very helpful. Once again, it’s very rare that anyone would share such hard earned knowledge so openly on UA-cam. You are a credit to the UA-cam community and to guitar players. I know you are a fan of Bias Fx, as am I. I know you also have some very nice amps and pedals, as do I. When it comes to recording, do you have a preference between VST vs. amp/pedals? I can dial up some amazing tone with Bias but I find that string bends, pinch harmonics, chaka’s don’t always come out strong. However, when I use amps/load boxes/pedals the overall tone seems a little muddy. Any advice from a metal messiaha such as you would be gospel to me. Oh...and under continued oath and hand to God...I will “keep it metal”.

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  3 роки тому

      Thank you for the kind words, dude! For recording, and really for anything, I prefer a real amp, all day, everyday! I use plugins a lot out of the convenience, especially for doing videos for UA-cam and social, and for recording the initial ideas for songs as a base.
      I do have a blog post on how to get a metal tone with BIAS FX here that you might find helpful: www.jasonstallworth.com/metal-tone-with-bias-fx-2/

  • @krackers777
    @krackers777 4 роки тому +1

    Hey Jason that was a great break down of recording process.
    But I will say this, I believe that a song, and where I come from over the years of listening to metal music, the majority of the song would be rhythmic/riffs, with what we used to call a lead break now solo's would be played a couple times through out the song.
    Now its shred this and shred that, I love the song to be rhythmic with couple leads throw in.
    Just as an example the band Mortification in the early years release 4 albums with no solos or very little at all lead breaks, but managed to do it rhythmically with chords and riffs.
    There is so much overkill of solos and shredding, and if you watch female guitarists all they do is solos and shred I don't think I have seen them play rhythmically..!!
    Bass players can be just as bad with all the slapping and popping and shredding the fret board, I play bass to fill the sound and try to give it rhythm, and not pop and slap all over the place.
    Anyway that's my take on it, maybe I'm just old school..!! 🎸🍻

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah dude, I love those lead breaks where it's a melodic pattern, just like the vocals! I'm glad you mentioned that because I have a lot of those in my upcoming instrumental album...which, I need to get in the studio right now!! lol
