  • You voted for this on last week's video, and 'riffs with melodies' won by a long shot!!
    And I was relieved that you guys chose melodies because that's my personal favorite.
    You can play the most complicated riff or lead in the world but nothing captivatess me like an awesome melody.
    ***How to Use the Circle of 5ths (this is what I talked about in the video):
    • Easy Way to Use the Ci...
    ***Here's the metal songwriting course I talked about: metalmastermind...
    The important thing to remember in this video is you don't have to learn every single note or the exact way that I play these progressions.
    Instead, focus on playing the actual progression. Play those chords over and over and you will naturally start to get ideas on what else to play with it.
    It's all about YOU creating YOUR own riffs! And riffs with melodies!

    Jason

    Great lesson in more than one thing. I totally get what you’re saying about letting your playing being your own. You know as well as I do when you get a good riff and are in the groove it’s hard to play it the same exact way again.

      That’s true!! Once you’ve got something you’ve gotta play over and over so that it’s engrained and part of you!!

    It’s funny because the “cool E” power chord can also be an inverted C Major, which is why it’s such a smooth transition because F’s 5th is a C

      That's definitely something I'm interested in...I'd need to listen to more of that so if you can throw me a name or two of a band, I'd appreciate it. I do like Cradle of Filth as they're more melodic

      @@jasonstallworth My favorite Black Metal band is Darkthrone. They have tons of albums (over 16) with some better than others. Good albums to start with are: Soulside Journey, A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Total Death, Old Star, Plaguewielder, Arctic Thunder, and their latest album Eternal Hails.
      They aren't total purists, though. They mix it up with lots of Rock and Thrash elements and seem to be having lots of fun.

      @@jasonstallworth The Black Metal act Burzum might cause you a lot of headaches in the comment section, so you might want to steer clear of that, even though Burzum is very crucial to the historical Black Metal Creative and Historical Timeline.

    You are definitely helping me to get more motivated!!! Thank you!!! Would you have advice about when jamming with band just throwing things together, What to listen for that other members might be playing? And how to work on something good that you hear with your own ear that you think just clicks. We are a very new garage band a bunch of 40 year olds that haven’t played in a band since high school. Any advice for a new band of 40 year olds would be wonderful thank you in advance.

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  3 роки тому +1

      Dude, it's inspiring that you're starting a band in your 40s...in our older age (I'm 46), we know more of what we want and what we're willing to tolerate, and not! And we're more focused and driven! The best thing is ti make sure you're aligned with folks that have the same values and vision. If you have that, the process will be more seamless.

    What drum program do you use or do you write/program your own drums? I use Cakewalk and have only messed with the drum program that comes with it. It's very minimal and lacks drum beats I want. I just don't have time to do drums and write for guitar, piano and strings.

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  2 роки тому

      For these videos, EZ Drummer but I have the Metal Machine and Death Metal packs and just pull in loops. I don’t program anything.
      For albums, I hire a real drummer.

      Dude, you may like the Ibanez RG guitars with the Wizard necks because those fingerboards are a bit wider and the neck isn't as thick. I've noticed some guitars play better in my hands for those reasons!

    Augmented E Power chord...seems to be moving towards Death Metal.
    Wait, entire song Easy Living by WASP is written similarly in Diminished power chords...if I am correct.
    Dave Mustaine does this all the time.
    Your advice is very correct not to mimic.

    How to mute the E string after 2 strums ... I play it and it keeps vibrating 😂😭

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  2 роки тому

      That's a mix of using your palm is some cases and other cases using your fretting fingers to mute those strings. Usually a quick mute is all it takes. It's a technique that is learned over time with much practice.
