Man you're going to love the Buddhism in Digital Devil Saga, the games are quite literally covered by it, with Buddhist images in the walls of certain locations, a skill progression system called Mantra, Karma being the exp, and I'm not gonna spoil it but while the drums you use as save terminals in Nocturne don't appear much they do make a rather interesting appearance in the second game
DDS needs a remaster and sooooo much love! It got me into Hinduism more, and I appreciated the buddhist concepts presented, being someone into meditation and mindfulness. :)
That scene in the thumbnail? It surprised me during the lockdown back in 2020...why? Because Hikawa said one must awake from a long sleep and face the barren world...which is funny because there's no traffic at all those days when you went out to get some supplies.
The heart of Digital Devil Saga is buddhism. Its take on it is really interesting and the story is one of the best megaten has to offer. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it ♡
I'm just now seeing your Nocturne videos and I'm absolutely in love with them. Nocturne especially is one of my favorite games ever. They way the game handles it's religious themes is so incredible to me and you've shown me so many things that I didn't even know were a thing. Dark Buddhism haha
this is an EXCELLENT video. i'm blown away at how much symbolism is within Nocturne, and how well done it is. thank you for taking the time to eloquently discuss this!
There's a BOOK?! I'd love to get a hardcover if you still have some leftovers. I'm studying buddhism and would love to read your book no matter what format it's in 😊 Edit: I saw your post in Ko-Fi? And I'm truly sorry and hope you and your family are safe and in good health. I'll purchase the e-book until you're ready to sell physical books again 😊
God I love this game. So thought-provoking while being so cool at the same time

You have a very nice narrative voice. Reminds me of documentaries I'd watch when I was a kid.

such an interesting analysis! it really puts certain aspects of Nocturne in a different perspective!
This is so well made, incredibly good work on this series seriously

Thank you so much for this. This is really enlightening. In terms of adding so much context to the game and teaching me more about the religion.
