100% why do people give into cooking gimmicks? However I knew a guy who make thick patties and then cooked them low temp and basted them constantly and they were so delicious. But that was putting in love and care!
I have never smiled this much watching a cooking video, man! And to think, I was actually about to try the whole smash burger thing. Do you know that there is an entire Facebook group dedicated to nothing but Smashburgers? They sit around in there and criticize each others' "technique", lol! And I'm still gonna try it because my wife doesn't like really thick burgers, so I think she'll like the thin patties. But I REFUSE to buy a special tool just to make one (I hate accessories and gadgets that only do one thing). I was gonna try it with a good hefty spatula. But now, thanks to you, I'll just use a F'ing plate and a piece of paper; and smash them in advance, which makes a whole lot more sense, LOL!! And I loved the whole "ice cube burger" debunk, man. I wasn't even gonna try that one. This was a treat to watch, brother. Cheers!
Ron you’ve made my day! Thank you so much! Lol I’m not against smash burgers as a really thin quickly cooked burger. I think they’re fine and have their place in the world, but yeah it’s the bull and marketing that drives me nuts…. And omg i have felt some wrath from smash burger people who’ve bought into it!!! Lol they’re very easily upset. Thanks for getting my sense of humor! It’s just a bit of fun at the end of the day. But Seriosuly, grinding your own burgers was the best thing I learnt doing this video! Totally worth it albeit expensive with sirloin and short rib! Lol thanks again!!
@@EatTheWorldXX I made some smash burgers for the first time tonight after watching your video. Remembering what you said, I smashed them in advance. And when I tried to pick one of them up I realized why it needs to be done on the grill. Long story I wasn’t able to pick them up. They kept falling apart. I ended up kinda folding and plumping them a little just so i could move them. As a result they all ended up a little thicker than i wanted them, although still delicious. I’m never going to buy a special tool just to mash ground beef flat, lol! But i do want to try it again. They cooked very fast and the flavors permeated the whole patty. But I’m with you on all the hype. I took my boys to a smash burger joint once. Spent about $40 bucks on 3 burgers, fries and drinks. And at the end I was like “Hell this is just a regular-ass burger!”, lol!
"It's stupid!" Yes, thank you! My burger mixture is Worcestershire and Lipton Onion Soup Mix. Which makes a very delicious and savory burger. What I can't escape is the hockey puck meatball! Is my grill to hot (always lump charcoal)? Am I over working the beef (always use 80/20)? I have a burger press (still end up with hockey puck meatballs), but I also hand patty...same result. What am I doing wrong? And don't tell me about the dimple, cause that shit doesn't work either.
Is that motorhome a TARDIS? You have more cookery tools than a yuppie has in their McMansions. By the way, I was trying not to laugh like a pre-teen when you talked about sitting around grinding your own meat.
Burgers schmurgers, you had me at Bill Hicks!
right??? What's not to love?
I agree with you my friend
thanks Kelly!
