I made only the raspberry filling for my cake with a murder mystery theme. The bleeding effect worked great and also tasted wonderfully as I paired it with a chocolate buttercream filling in a chocolate cake. My frozen raspberry layers were a little thin though and broke transferring it to the cake. So next time I think will double the recipe to make it thicker. Thanks for coming up with and sharing this idea! I was searching for this concept and couldnt find anything anywhere on how to execute it :)
How far in advance were you able to make your cake? I have one for Saturday but would like to start Thursday night! Are you aware of how long this would hold up inside a cake?
i used the coulis recipe in a cake shaped like an among us character, and my friend was delighted to see the "bloods and guts" spill out when cut into hahaha i would say that you can reduce the amount of sugar and add lemon juice and itd be perfect! there weren't any problems with leaking, and i used an american buttercream recipe for reference
How far in advance did you make the cake? Do you think the sauce would hold up for 2 days? I have a cake for Saturday and would like to start it on Thursday night!

I’m getting my criminology degree and I’ve been wanting to bake a bleeding cake to celebrate however all the other tutorials have been so bad! This one is definitely the one I’ll be following, thanks girl! 🫶🏼
I love that cat meows🐱 I know the situation well because my cats do the same. And if I don't pause what I'm doing to give them each a kiss on the head they will sit under my feet and scream 🤣 and the cake is amazing!
Looks awesome! Excited to try it for a bleeding wedding cake I'm doing too! Curious.. What did you do differently with your first attempt cake that made it not come out right? Also, is it necessary to freeze the raspberry coulis before putting it in the cake, or can I pour it in? Thanks!
Actually, not freezing the coulis was one of the main differences with my unsuccessful version 😂, but I also didn’t chill the layers as I went so I think the coulis mixed with the room-temp buttercream and then soaked into the cake. I’d definitely recommend sticking with the frozen coulis if you can. 🙂
@@SugaredNerd Ok, but what if I assemble the cake the day before with the frozen coulis, and it thaws in the fridge overnight, then sits for a good amount of hours at room temp for the wedding.. Will the coulis stay put?! 😬 I hope!
I am doing something similar but maybe with a black velvet cake instead of red velvet. Right shade for the raspberry would show. Besides a beautiful fall wedding would anyone actually be expecting a black cake? The groom cake. The bakery is amazingly versed in sugar glass shapes and are doing clear fall leaves in amazing fall colors that look like like for the wedding cake
I'm new to baking so I apologize if this is a dumb question.... Could you just cut a hole out of your center cake layer and fill that hole, letting the cake itself be the "dam"?
Gosh sorry for the late reply - I think you could put a hole in the cake layer, but you'd still want to coat the cake in buttercream & chill before adding the "blood"- the cake by itself is too porous & will soak up the coulis if it has direct contact with it as it melts, like a sponge. Hope that makes sense!
I tried this first, but had trouble with the raspberry squishing out while I frosted the rest of the cake, so freezing it is just a little extra insurance that it stays put until it's time to cut into the cake.
@@SugaredNerddo you think this would hold up inside a cake for 2 days? I have a cake for Saturday but want to start it on Thursday night so in total would be about 48 hours before it’s cut open!
@@bridgettchapman5020that’s tough, to be honest I’ve only ever gone about 12 hours between assembly and cutting it open, but if you keep it in the fridge, I think it would be ok!
Can't wait to try a Hannibal theme cake with this recipe!
Great idea!

I'm planning on making a Sweeney Todd-themed birthday cake for myself this year! Thanks so much for the tutorial!
That is way too cool!!!! I wonder if it would work on a red velvet cake
Definitely! Cream cheese frosting would work as well, since it will stiffen up in the fridge like buttercream. :)
Thanks so much for this! My nephew wants a cake like this and ur helping me make it😂❤

2:04 I’m making 3 10” layers for a wedding. What size should I do the raspberry filling? An 8” and 4” ?
Question about the raspberry coulis could you not substitute frozen red cherries for that?
I'm making a cake right now with a horror theme. Thank you for sharing your technique!

Haha, they are very sweet but demanding companions!
Omg i need to try this ❤ also if im making a 6in cake should i make the coulis a 4in?
Well done! Great job. Now ill have to try this out

@@BeckMyster08 so long as your buttercream is stiff enough to hold up the cake layers, I think it will be ok! 😬
How long do you think it takes for the raspberry to thaw once it's all put together?
I'd leave it in the fridge for about 3 hours just to be sure. :)
Looks awesome

Do you think the coulis could be made with other fruit? Like strawberry?
Sure! Just make sure it has a nice, flowing consistency before freezing.
@@SugaredNerd Thank you so much!
I love this so much
How would you make it bleed it you wanted it to come out the top when you stuck the knife in?
would this work with strawberries?
So excited to try this, my niece wants a demon slayer themed bleeding cake she this is perfect xo thanks cheers
Love it my nephew wants a friday the 13th cake and this will be great
Love it.
do you think it would work if I use cream cheese frosting?
Cooleeee good job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

FYI sorry I forgot... Beautiful kitty. Mine are 24 and 17. Yours looks so sweet

Yay! Thank you!
Do u have to freeze the raspberry. Couldn't you just put a damn and put in on since it's gonna thaw anyways?

Can I use frozen strawberries ?
Sure, for strawberries, I'd probably cook with the sugar first, so they soften, and then pass through the strainer.
Thank you I want to make a brain cake that bleeds for Halloween (my country doesn't celebrate it but who cares) I'm gonna try this
Awesome!
This could be a perfect recipe to recreate the heart shaped cake from the Blank Space video by Taylor Swift :D
