Hi I have been playing Black Powder for awhile, but when I have a long break from playing and I need to refresh the rules, I come to watch your videos. You explain the rules very well but I have one comment to make, which is that only Cavalry is allow to Sweeping advance and charges pg 73 Keep up the great work.
Hi, these vids have been a real help. Me and a mate played the Wright’s fort scenario today and we came across a question. My Union infantry charged a Confederate unit that had an Artillery battery to its flank. The infantry unit got closing fire but we couldn’t see where the flanking artillery gets to use its canister. The best we could work out was that if my unit had crossed in front then the artillery would have an opportunity shot. Seems odd that a unit next to the artillery can receive a charge but the adjacent canon stand there Whistling Dixie. Did we miss something? Thanks and keep up the great work. My Union force is 20 regiments complete and I’m now mostly painting Anglo/Dutch Waterloo.
Great video! I’m a little confused about supporting units in Black Powder Glory Hallelujah! I believe early in the video you said that charging units do not get the benefit of support 10:04. I’m confused because at 13:57 you have the middle Confederate unit charge the Federal line and engage in hand-to-hand combat with a supporting unit behind it. Would help me understand this better? Thanks!
Just watched it back. I think I say if you are in hand to hand you can't offer support yourself. So even if a regiment is on position to support, if it's in hand to hand combat itself, it does not add support.
I’m confused, you say 6’s in hand-to-hand Combat don’t cause disorder but on page 48 (First edition) it says “Disorder can occur as a result of shooting or during close combat”. Am I confusing close combat and hand-to-hand combat? Or is this a Glory Hallelujah special rule? Thanks
I had a look at the rules, and I see the issue. P68 Black Powder 2, talk a about fighting hand to hand combat, being essentially the same as shooting. It then describes the system without mentioning disorder. It talks on p50 about shooting disorder saying it would deal with disorder from shooting. We have always took that to be that it's not applied in hand to hand, having not played 1st ed much. I am off to look at some faqs. This is an example of when I say the rules are not as precise as I would like!
I'm with Uncle Cthulu - it mentions the specific dice needed to wound Fromm shooting, then says in addition 6s cause disorder. Later, on page 68 it states the specific dice needed to wound but does NOT add 6s cause disorder. So I'd say that's more a rule to represent the shock and impact of a volley stalling men - combat has its own rules to represent getting smashed
The paragraphs are identical. In the 2 rule books. We take it to be in shooting disorder can occur on the roll.of a 6. In hand to hand it's as a result of break tests, as it's the only time.its mentioned. I've double checked with a few of my gaming friends and they are in agreement with me. It's also how.we played it at the great game. I notice there are some Rick Priestly battle reports out there, I will check them out tomorrow.
Just a question: when you give the charging order, how does the other player calculate/roll what does happen? I mean, if you order the charge and it's successful, how do you know if there's close fire, stand, evasion, etc? Thank you
We just respond as the orders are declared and once we know it will resolve. Player A, I declare a charge, roll dice, charge is happening. Player B my reaction is......
So you add the support to figure who wins the combat I get that, but when you roll for the break test for the loser is support included in the die adjustment. EG confederates lose combat 3 to 1 and union had 2 support so really lost 5 to 1. Is the break test roll minus 2 or minus 4?
The roll for morale uses a different set of modifiers. You don't count the combat result. You just count excess casualties and shaken/disordered as negative modifiers to your morale dice roll. If the unit breaks then every unit that supported must also test for breaking.

Thank you all for the Clarification. the rule was vague (and for me) a little confusing. I think I'll go with the Majority on this one!
I watched the rick Priestley play through (author) and it is definitely just shooting.
You went to a lot of trouble, thank you
@@mikeareno7406 I was curious myself, in case I had been doing it wrong myself!

I think you two played the rules correctly.
Great video! However, can artillery give support? I thought they couldn't?
nice looking figs buddy
