I have installed Windows on almost every Mac just for the versatility. It’s been pretty handy. For my kids who like the Mac but want to boot to Windows for games, it’s great on our travel laptop. My niece had to start working from home and I rebuilt her old MacBook Air so she could dual-boot for work software. (Her hard drive was dead, so I got a new one that was more accommodating for the space requirements of dual booting.) If a family member or friend needs a temporary computer because their current one goes belly up, I usually have a spare to loan and it will run two common operating systems. I have gone through this process many times. The topic in this video was handled in a straightforward and accessible way.
Will you be available for questions? I'm going to try this on a 2007 Macbook I have ordered from the internet ... Specs I don't know. I've played around with 2 unibody's but never have i crossed the software border. This will be my first time. Any place I can reach you?
@@wencyjunelibot6997 I have one machine with a 46 GB Windows partition. With no extra software installed, I only usually have about 10 GB free. When Windows updates start to run, the space is consumed quickly and I have needed to have another spare USB drive around to plug in just to complete updates. So, if you allocate 64 GB, you are more likely to be able to install Windows updates and you might have a little room for other Windows software also.

This video helped me a lot, thank you. I did however encounter two issues (to which I managed to resolve thanks to a few Google searches): 1) Wi-Fi did not automatically kick in because somehow Boot Camp installation did not activate the Wi-Fi Mac drivers, and as a consequence the installation was slow and clunky because Windows kept looking for the internet, and I did not have a cable to connect via ethernet. The drivers are available after the installation, and can be activated, the issue is how and when to get there (in my case it was about 9 hours of waiting); and 2) This video at 3:37 does not explain how to get to the install files for Boot Camp on Windows - the installer did not pop up automatically for me, so I needed to do a manual install. As a Mac guy who hasn't used Windows in decades, finding drivers and install files in Windows is a nightmare. But, again, nothing a Google search can't resolve. Thanks again.

And if it is bad, how often am I able to switch between the two? I love my Macbook features, but unfortunately, I have to change it to Windows for school.

Great helpful video! For those who are facing WiFi connection problems after installation, the following tips might help: 1) Try installing the USA English version of Windows 10. Been there, done that years ago… Window’s on my specked out 2015 Mac laptop absolutely sucks. The fans go crazy and I can’t stand using it on my Mac laptop which otherwise runs very quiet when running macOS. If you need both systems, you’re almost better off getting a cheap Windows laptop in addition to your Mac laptop or desktop. I also feel like Windows runs slow and is laggy on a Mac. My Mac laptop has a 1 TB hard drive, so I split it pretty much down the middle and it still sucks running Windows.
Eh, I'm using it currently on my 2019 16" MacBook Pro and there's really no lag. Though I do agree the fans ramp up when on Windows. However, I never really care about that because I have headphones on while playing a game or talking to someone anyway (also that happens on macOS as well when doing similar tasks, and I much rather have a cool computer than a hot computer) lol. My opinion is I rather not have an additional laptop, but again, my opinion. Doing whatever works for your workflow should be the goal.
Yeah I had the exact same experience. Ended up just buying a windows laptop. The fans would run at full speed all the time and the battery life was an hour at max.
I had no thermal issues when running Windows on my MB Air as a Fusion vm - and Fusion is far cheaper than buying a second laptop. Fusion also lets you have Windows running in, well, a window, without having to log out of the Mac OS. You can even drag and drop between Mac and PC folders. (Sadly, we still don't have Fusion for the M1 Macs, or even a release date from VMware.)
I followed your steps, and it worked well! Once that is done, is there a way to expand more storage for the window program without redownloading and redoing this again?
Hey there friend, this is a great video. Straight to the point and simple to follow. I used this to install Windows on my Mac successfully. I needed Windows in order to install a VMWare virtual desktop for work. Windows works absolutely fine. However, once inside VMWare, there is considerable lag that I don't experience while using it on a regular PC. Would you happen to know any easy DIY solutions for this? Thank you
I have a question, I'm already using win 10 on my 2012 mac mini and went through the process you are describing , can I maybe just use Restore from backup option to install win 10 and transfer all my win 10 stuff in one step to a new 2018 mac mini? Happy Holidays!
When I try to download the Windows Bootcamp onto my Mac, it is stuck at "Downloading Windows Support System". My mac software is up to date, I tried repairing my disk, and download access in the privacy system is allowed. Is there any alternative way to fix this?
Running an OS on bare metal is very different than a virtual machine. Also running Windows for ARM on anything other than Windows 10/11 violates the EULA and terms of use.
Well you don't buy a Mac because you need windows . You buy a Mac for what it is. Beein able to switch back and forth is much better than having to complete boot the system separately 🤔. If you think otherwise Mac might not be the right solution for you. I don't say that just because I am an apple homie . But I sold thousands of mac's. Windows is like a swiss knife, you can do a lot but nothing works great . 90 % of my clients figure out after talking to me that they don't even need windows as most of the software they mention does run on Mac os by now. Or there is good alternatives.
Gents, long story short: to install windows on your mac os without DVD mindfucking : 0. Make sure you have enough space available on your HDD. 1. Download official Windows iso image and leave it on Desktop 2. The most important: get your USB stick and FORMAT IT on your mac as APFS. 3. Launch the boot camp and follow the instructions. P.S. Most people fail because they use their USB stick with NTFS or EXFAT file system.
Great video, short and straight to the point. Question: Is it possible to completely wipe the Mac partition after Windows (&Bootcamp) install and increase the size of the Windows partition to the maximum? Aka completely getting rid of MacOS
Great explainer video regarding Boot Camp. But running Windows as a virtual machine allows running both Mac and Windows at the same time! And also permits the very handy sharing of data and files between Mac and Windows! So, how can you make a video about “how to run Windows on a Mac” and not also discuss the typically much superior way of doing so using VMware Fusion or Parallels (the latter of which also informally supports running Windows on M1 Silicon Macs)? That is a huge and horrific omission from an otherwise nice video. And not up to your usual very high standards. Your readers/viewers deserve better and more complete information in order to make informed decisions. So, how about appending to the video a few minutes regarding Fusion and Parallels? That would be great and a huge improvement. 😃
I have installed Win11 on my M1 Mac using Parallels. Parallels itself walks you through the process. It seems to run just fine, but software choices for the ARM version of Windows are pretty limited at present (there is x86 emulation, but it's pathetically slow.) And, of course, Parallels itself has to be purchased. Microsoft, so far, hasn't hit me up for a license purchase, but it's not clear how long that free ride will last.
Very helpful , I might try to do it sometime on my iMac 2013 to see how it works , even though I have a gaming pc with windows 11 Just for the curiosity I’ll give it bootcamp a try Thanks for the video 👍

Ran into some issues with the network adapter on windows 10. For some reason, windows won't look for any networks to connect to. Any advice on this?
having the same problem
Did you figure out how to fix this? Having the same issue
@@calebbundy787 I had to scrap the entire install and start over. It worked the second time.
This is my second time restarting this process and it’s still not finding any internet access any advice?
Perfect execution, thank you. Finally me and my girlfrien will be able to play Titan Quest co-op
Perfect thank you so much it worked perfectly
I did it and it just works fine for me. Don't blame others even they helped. Be grateful.
Dang. Catalina need usb to work. Monterey and up, you can just install windows using the iso.
Perfect. But I have a question. When I launch bootcamp, it ask me insert usb drive. Then stop in the middle when copying windows files.
same here
Hey there friend, this is a great video. Thank you
virtual machines are really really really laggy, its just like that
Thanks for the clear explanation!
great tutorial; perfect timing
I have a question, I'm already using win 10 on my 2012 mac mini and went through the process you are describing , can I maybe just use Restore from backup option to install win 10 and transfer all my win 10 stuff in one step to a new 2018 mac mini? Happy Holidays!
Should it uploaded 2 years ago?
THANK YOU THIS WAS VERY HELPFULL
When I try to download the Windows Bootcamp onto my Mac, it is stuck at "Downloading Windows Support System". My mac software is up to date, I tried repairing my disk, and download access in the privacy system is allowed. Is there any alternative way to fix this?
that same thing is happening to me
Straight to the point. Thank you
This is the way
I've got Windows on my Mac TWICE. By Bootcamp and also by Parallels!!
What's up with the "ancient" tutorial CNET? Dang, and here I thought finally I'll be able to install it on my M1 MacBook.. 😒
You can, with parallels
@@samwhateverportsche waste of money to deal with parallels
Running an OS on bare metal is very different than a virtual machine. Also running Windows for ARM on anything other than Windows 10/11 violates the EULA and terms of use.
@@samwhateverportsche It’s horrible
Well you don't buy a Mac because you need windows . You buy a Mac for what it is. Beein able to switch back and forth is much better than having to complete boot the system separately 🤔. If you think otherwise Mac might not be the right solution for you. I don't say that just because I am an apple homie . But I sold thousands of mac's. Windows is like a swiss knife, you can do a lot but nothing works great . 90 % of my clients figure out after talking to me that they don't even need windows as most of the software they mention does run on Mac os by now. Or there is good alternatives.
Thanks! Because of you my grade got saved
P.S. Most people fail because they use their USB stick with NTFS or EXFAT file system.
hey how do i format my usb stick as apfs?
@@cemeow use mac os built in disk partition app
Beast. Great job there is no confusing.
How do we uninstall Windows if we don't like it?
You don’t.
@@CNET What.. you meant I don’t want to uninstall Windows or I can not uninstall Windows once it is installed?
@@nelsonmei9527 did you figure out the uninstall process? If so, what is it?
@@Dionne_Sheree No, I didn't install it.
@@nelsonmei9527 gotcha! Thanks for the reply!
thanks a lot bro made it super easy
That's so easy and straightforward even I don't own any mac haja
Can u make a video to install CentOS
-I thought this video was for the M1 Macs.-
*_Done this in the past. Disposed my Apple and sticking with full Microsoft Windows now._*
Great video, short and straight to the point.
Question: Is it possible to completely wipe the Mac partition after Windows (&Bootcamp) install and increase the size of the Windows partition to the maximum? Aka completely getting rid of MacOS
Hi can u tell me that which mac you have and did you use a usb stick or not Thank You
@@DudeATS I don't have a mac but I was considering getting one and in that case I'd want to use Linux or Windows on it instead :)
Ah ok an “INTEL” Mac not the current and newest m1 Mac. Everyone knows how to use windows on intel mac...
thank you i needed this for steam on my laggy laptop so i can transfer to my high performance imac
It seems to run just fine, but software choices for the ARM version of Windows are pretty limited at present (there is x86 emulation, but it's pathetically slow.)
And, of course, Parallels itself has to be purchased. Microsoft, so far, hasn't hit me up for a license purchase, but it's not clear how long that free ride will last.
It should be mentioned that the _"much superior way"_ requires *purchasing* additional software.
ok nerd

You could always do a video. You seem to be knowledgeable in this matter. Even using big brain words. I’d watch it.
Amazing stuff, worked exactly as advised in the video!!! Nice and easy steps to follow
Very helpful , I might try to do it sometime on my iMac 2013 to see how it works , even though I have a gaming pc with windows 11
Just for the curiosity I’ll give it bootcamp a try
Thanks for the video 👍
This really worked thanks
Thank you so Much IAM new to Mac so I didn’t know how to do until this video 😊
For people who had trouble with the wifi. Note that simply searching up on UA-cam "boot camp wifi not working" will do the job and video of this situation and how to fix it.
Thank you It works for me! But I have asked for Activate Windows afterward, how could I do?
