For anyone wondering, yes, this still can be obtained during SL expansion. Also, I think the number of casts needed to fish up the shad of darkness has been reduced. Took me 50 tries. Sick transmog when paired with the Venthyr or Necrolords armour.

my servers not that bad, but for both books its about 60k, which sadly, this is my alt server so i dont even have half that across 5 characters lol
@@Jeml1998 it tends to be more expensive Horde side as well due to how much AV sucks for the Horde, thus fewer Horde players willing to actually queue for the BG.
Well mine had it for 40k at some point. but its now up to 63k

The Shard of Darkness took me about 60 casts, and about 15mins starting with fishing at lvl 1 today. So hopefully the chance to get it has gone up cause I’m rarely that lucky lol.
for everyone wondering yes it works in the shadowlands if you didn't find the large vile slime just come back after the reset I think you will find it there that's what I did good luck.

Thank you for tutorial. Everything went fairly smoothly for me. I used the server hop addon and searched under custom for "slime." I got lucky; found a group and killed the slime in < 2 minutes. The fishing part took a while but not that bad. I did somewhere around 820 casts before getting the shard. I'm alliance on a pvp server that the horde dominate. There were usually 1 - 2 alliance including myself and 5 - 7 horde. Sometimes they were nice; most of the time they ganked me and the other person. Kinda funny though when we fought because you would see every single pally bubble lol. To fix this, I found someone on a pvp server and had them invite me to group.

Yay! Finished it in about roughly 2 and a half of game time and a nights sleep!
btw you dont need to have The Ashbringer equipped to farm the other hidden colors tested on 1/9/2020 and the amount of dungeons has been reduced to 30 from 100
I assume once you complete it you can still Transmog the cursed look? currently doing it as we speak.

i remember having casted fishing only 27 times before getting the shard of darkness in patch 9.2.0 so yes they did make it easyer to get,i think

Ty for the guide mate. Felt like I needed those 81 fishing levels before getting the shard :P Searched for the crystal on wowhead and it said it had 0.13% droprate, 81 casts much be pretty decent =D
Can confirm this is still full proof before shadowlands! Slime took forever to spawn but outside that got my crystal in 30 casts :P

Got my shard in 19 fishing clicks and the vile mob was up right as I got there. I guess I was bound to wield that Corrupted Ashbringer.
when i heard about the pvp farm thing, i forgot all about getting that appearance :DDDDD
regarding the shard of darkness. i didnt even get through the opening credit of 1 simpsons episode before it dropped.... i hope this was buffed and not all luck. sorry all who had longer waits :(

Did it in SL and ive got shard in 25 casts, slime respawns pretty fast too so probably its easier to get now

I know this video is 2 months old so you may have already been told this, but here goes: The guide was great, very straightforward and very well paced. Some constructive criticism though is I would try to use filler words like "um, so, errr" etc. Just by cutting those out and slowing down a little it'll make your commentary sound way more professional and it'll make you sound less out of breath.
By no means am I complaining, your guide was incredible and has helped me and many others, just trying to help you improve so you attract more subscribers :)

Ok so i just did this on patch 8.2 and i thought i had to wait forever for the Vile Slime to appear. But I guess nowadays ppl are to busy doing late game content because the vile slime was up during the evening at a very high pop server (or i just got lucky) so ppl who are doing this will have a better chance of catching the vile slime because no other paladins are on the quest it seems :)
the fishing part, lmao, the slime was there when i arrived, and it took me 10 min to fish
Can I farm the Shard of Darkness before I get the Nefarian Head? I get pretty unlucky and it doesn't drop for 3 weeks now. :(
BTW this works for horde also, there is no horde or alliance side to this quest. Hearthglen is neutral.
Slime was there when I showed up and fished up the shard on my 74th cast.

Got it in 18 cast like 5 mins my fishing was 7 when i started. But Lord Maxwelle is on a mission because I thought it was going to take forever so I have to wait 16 hours anyways

You need to do this steps before talking to Prince Tortheldrin:
Note: Do not complete the quest the head offers, it is unrelated and will consume the head, forcing you to wait until the next lockout for another head
- Talk to Sister Elda with both books
Your spec must be Retribution for her to respond to your books
She will give you A Complete Copy of "Nat Pagle's Guide to Extreme Anglin'."
Slime was up and waiting and I got to it, even respawned by the time I returned from learning fishing in Dalaran. Then I got the crystal in 14 casts.
So how do we get the color variants currently? Do we have to equip the old artifact and complete those tasks?

The boss was there when I showed up and I only fished for 2 min before I got the crystal. People are going to hate me.
I'm not sure if things changed in 7.3 but i got the shard of darkness in 10 casts today
I could not find the book at any of the locations you showed, is it not a guaranteed spawn?
Nope. If it's not in the dungeon, just go back out and reset. I had to reset one time for it to be there.
I had to watch a different video and it took me to a different dungeon in the same area. I was able to find it in the different one first try, not the one in this vid.
Got it in 49 tries fishing :-) lucky me spent less than 1 hour for whole unlock
I bought the books for 70k. I waited like 2-3 hours for slime and it took me 100 casts to get the shard.
Logged in to the spot after work, and the slime was spawned. 22 casts in, I got the shard.

Sasuke Uchiha How did you get it without the slime? You don't need the slime if you have the shard, I think they may have changed the quest over the patches

Yeah you can get the book from dire maul straight away, or buy it, it's fairly cheep

realm hopping doesnt seem to work here now - as i werent swithcing realms
I swapped realms and it was up, so i killed the slime and he didn't drop anything. does that mean you have to do it on your own realm now ?
