A lot of people are missing some key details in this game. Notice a lot of the themes relate to what we seen with the Silent Hill F trailer? Also the note mentioning the fog and Silent Hill being something that exists outside of the town. Maybe they have no connection but I found those details interesting. This was still a decent game for what it was, and it was free.
i also thought about silent hill f! it will play in japan..but with the fog, they opened a got plot for more places!

what many people miss: yes there is a place called silent hill, where once started the original. but silent hill..the silent hill we know..is a dimension. even in three you have some visits there even you arent in silent hill locally. anyway. i like this game a lot. there is much love in detail and atmossphere!

Yes i did the same, i was on the last chase scene and couldn't finish it as i was just running aimlessly and then dying, after 4-5 tries i just uninstalled and came here to see the conclusion stress free and watch the ending.

I get what you're saying, but I also agree with the other dude. OG Silent Hill is long dead, and this is what's left. However, I will say the idea of a young protagonist, especially a teenager, is a little too much "Life is Strange" for my taste. I mean, jesus christ, teenagers don't have the kind of adult trauma that really fits the "Silent Hill Vibe". This was all cyberbullying, suicide, and LGBTQia+", not, "I murdered the fuck out of my terminally ill wife, cause I was over her shit".

I enjoyed this- They overdid some exposition, and the final maze es no bueno. But it’s a fun, free tech demo with a nicely told story.
I guess it's kinda supposed to make the player feel as if they're in a time loop the same way Anita is. Still contributes to the whole too on the nose feeling of the game in general though.
It seems like an honest attempt at some decent story focused horror game, though I'd expect a bit more of the abstract and weird from a SH title. Not bad, but I think it being attached to Silent Hill drags down its identity, though without it, it probably doesn't offer anything to save it from obscurity.
The last chase part of this “game” really had me contemplating committing suicide for the first time in my life! 😂 what a shltshow…
Honestly, i like it! Being a huge SH fan for a loooong period of time and i remember that Silent Hill (after 2 part) was planned to have stories of different people outside of town, it supposed to be all about personal tragedy. Teenage depression is not my jam for sure, but i think they got the point. It looks like a random experiment, and it doesn't seem bad for a try 😊

Alright... hot take:
As a person who has struggled with suicidal thoughts from an early age, I absolutely appreciated the message this game is trying to convey.
No, it's not subtle, but it's a short game. Of course, it's not subtle. You need time to set up the symbolism and plot twists. This conveyed the horror of growing up in an unstable environment with mentally ill parents, and how that affects the lives brought up in it.
C-PTSD is a lot more common than I'd like it to be, but it's a reality for many people. Life, which is supposed to be beautiful, becomes a cycle of traumatic abuse. I used to think Death was the only escape, too.
There are people who genuinely love me, and there are people I want to genuinely love in return. Say what you will about the game, but I appreciate that it exists and had the boldness to talk about it.

I don't hate the message that it's trying to portray, but I really hate how on-the-nose everything is. Instead of allowing anyone to really feel what they're going through and connect on an empathetic level and really visually depict what these people are going through, they're just extremely on-the-nose and they explicitly say everything about what they're thinking, feeling, and experiencing. There's nothing deep about it, it's all very in-your-face, and it ends up feeling like a hardcore anti-bullying PSA than an actual psychological horror experience that explores the human condition in a very genuine and gruesome way.
It wouldn't even take much to fix, either. If like 90% of the dialogue got cut so that we were actually allowed to FEEL what the character was going through, and dumb shit like 24:37 where the music drops to the most painfully obvious twist known to man in the most uninspired and cliche way possible, the experience genuinely would've been so much more interesting and impactful.
I do like and respect the story they're trying to tell, I just *hate* how they told it. This has made me pretty scared for what Silent Hill 2's remake is gonna be like.
Have you actually played any other Silent Hill game? 1-3 all have their super on the nose moments, unfortunately they aren't remembered as much coz of the cult level the games have reached, but they're there
@@MultiPaco06 I absolutely have played the other Silent Hills, and while those games have their on-the-nose moments, there's not a single second where this game actually allows us to think for ourselves. It's also filled with tons of horror cliches and useless dialogue that REALLY doesn't need to be there.
I genuinely don't know why people like you act like it was this bad in the original 3 when it really wasn't at all. This girl just keeps on talking non-stop and she is constantly explicitly saying everything that comes to mind and how she's feeling and what her motivations are and all that. We're not allowed to just see or think for ourselves, she's always brute forcing what we should be thinking and feeling. It would be like if in Silent Hill 2 when you meet Angela she just straight up says, "Sorry, I'm just sad because I am a rape victim." And then she brings up being raped every encounter you have with her. That's literally this entire game, practically.

it'd be like if every time we saw eddie in SH2 he showed up saying "i was beat up and made fun of for being chubby thats why i binge/purge because i developed an ED". he said he was bullied, but we had to look at set design and read between the lines to get the rest of his issues. it was pretty clear, but not literally spoken to me as a player. like i totally get you. i hated this game with the constant yelling of the insults. i'm not dumb, i don't need it spelled out to me like this 100% literally does with the sticky notes lmao. remember when people were allowed to develop theories about why the monsters were designed the way they were? yeah some were obvious (like the mary boss at the end) but there were several that were a lot more metaphorical. and this is not to say silent hill in it's earlier years was some high brow pretentious thing, but james would look at all kinds of weird shit ("there's a HOLE here. it's GONE now") and he didnt have to constantly shakily breathe into my ear to ask "but what does it meeeean". i mean theres even theories on what that hole quote means which is sorta neat to read and think about. SH4 had a lot of symbolism, so did 3@@xweert711
@@jinx17 Exactly this. There's no development or room for interpretation and space. It's all just in your face, constantly. There's nothing that's left up for interpretation, and the things that are supposed to be explicitly told, aren't allowed to sink in. It's so annoying. There really is so many instances of her just explicitly going, "But what does it MEAAAANNN" or "This makes me so SAAAD" or "This is so WEIRD and UNEXPLAINABLE!!"
I said it before, but it really feels like a hardcore Bullying PSA instead of a compelling snapshot into the mind of someone who is dealing with a very real problem.
Ending made me sad all it takes is that one message let people know you want to spend time with them tomorrow

I can't have been the only one to be crying after the game? Not because of the characters but the message. Maybe it's because I'm going through shit that I appreciate the game's themes. The chase bit at the end has got to be frustrating but story-wise, I think the game is great and the developers really did a good job.

I'm mixed on this. Without writing out an entire paper, there are a few plot points that don't feel right. Yet at the same time, this isn't too bad. There are definitely worse things out there with Silent Hill in its name.

I actually enjoyed this playthrough, I believe that this silent hill game truly focuses on the mental health struggles of some teenagers and youth, if you pick up newspapers you will find such cases happening in real life in every part of the world, I am impressed that this issue of social media influence and insecurities of youth are taken up through this game.
Handeling sensetive issues such as suicide, self harm, bullying, harrasment is never easy,but this game tried.
And the background art in the game is just so well done and beautiful
yah. On the one hand I think a lot of it is corny and I'm cringing a little bit at some parts. But it's pretty real. Anyone who has a kid in school will hear about this stuff, or see their kids live through it.

@@AcidEfflux But... it was developed by Team Silent and Hexadrive? Two Japanese development teams? And the franchise had always been about western culture and themes? I'll admit that it's teenage angst schlock that's unfamiliar to the series, but you're off-base here.
Although Silent Hill has some sort of identity in its core mechanics and ambience, to me Silent Hill has always been about its stories, it is about fear, pain, guilt, the traumas that people are struggling with. The first and third game may not have been all about personal trauma regarding its main story and main characters, but there were always side characters trapped in Silent Hill fighting their own demons.
This game seems like an experiment that used some of the ideas that were not used in P.T Silent Hills. And that is not a bad thing. A lot of games have evolved and changed a lot, and that doesn't make them bad games, just different. You have the Resident Evil series for example. This may not look too much, play or feel like Silent Hill, but it doesn't have to. It has what I think is the hearth of the series, personal trauma. I enjoyed it, it is not the best for sure, is not that scary but that's ok. And yes, It seems to be more focus on a younger audience, but again, that is not a bad thing.

SH3 was following the plot cues left from SH1, and the overarching plot of the two games was that the cult were using Cheryl as a vessel to rebirth their God.
SH3 dabbled in the personal trauma that Cheryl experienced, and of course the town followed her no matter where she went, but that wasn't the main point of SH3.@@ReinaLesbiana

This isn’t the silent hill I knew, but it does use some concepts of the series. In any case, the old silent hill was a compilation of right time, place and team. It’s long gone anyway and whatever’s new is for a new audience as well, older players should let go, give up and stop hating. Moreover this game is free and feels like an experiment for a new direction for the franchise too. It’d make sense to be mad if you bought it at least

I struggle with depression and had a history with suicide, this game hits on those aspects but I’m now almost 30 and can’t connect as well with the main characters especially with the terrible voice acting and the Dora the explorer complex, maybe I’ll try it in Japanese. I see them thou going on the right direction the atmosphere and especially the monster are creepy and disturbing when you realize it’s her dead best friend chasing her around.
I get the impression that they decided fairly early on that they wanted to get away from the cult plotlines of the previous titles and follow the Silent Hill 2 idea of making everything an expression of someone's personal and psychological hangups, guilt, trauma, etc. It makes sense with the concurrent release of the Silent Hill 2 remake. I like that. I also like the idea of setting the games elsewhere and making it some kind of global phenomenon, which was hinted at in PT. That's all perfectly well and good.
The part where it loses me is in the execution. What made SH2 and PT truly great was the way they used abstract symbolism and subtle hints to convey the plot. They kept things artfully ambiguous, which gave them a uniquely austere and unsettling fever-dream atmosphere, and left players with more questions than answers, giving them room to theorize and debate little details. This doesn't bother with that, it just dumps a stream of exposition on you from start to finish, which leaves no room for fear of the unknown, and nothing to the imagination. It's just doing too much. Hopefully Silent Hill F calms the fuck down a little bit.
Theres also the problem of this migrating into the outlast/amnesia/indie horror genre where you have no weapons and end up spending 10 minute long stretches running away. Much prefer SH 1-4 where you simply smash the skull in of whatever it was that was accosting you, and then investigating the area at your own pace.
I like the concept of the spiritual power of Silent Hill being a sentient manifestation of all of the dark sides of hunanity and becoming dislodged from the town that birthed it to exist under the skin of reality and taking root within someones mind if they have the right mindset
I like that too, and I like players being free to come up with conclusions like that on their own, instead of having the games spoon-feed them everything.

The bones of a good game are there, but it needs combing over by a very talented writer and drama director who would trim the silliness of the dialogue, and inject tension and good old psychological trickery in its stead. Unfortunately this isn't a Konami problem, but an industry wide issue. It's probably time to cut Yamaoka loose as well, even though such an act would bring out the ire of the faithful.

I'm relatively new to the Silent Hill Franchise, despite seeing the Movie many years ago and loving it. I honestly love the ambient, cold feeling that runs through SH 'worlds'. The sense of mystery and fear of what will be round the next corner is so tense.
Play the first four games, you owe it to yourself. If there's a lack of time, then play the 2nd one. It's a standalone title without much connection to any of the others.
The new stuff won't live up to what they were.

ok, so let me get this straight:
- girl suddenly finds herself in a strange building with no explanation, or memory of getting there, and doesnt question it.
- girl realizes that shes walking around and seeing memories and reminders of trauma from her own life, but doesnt question it.
- girl is continuing to get cell service and gets text messages, but doesnt think "hmm maybe I should call someone for help."
im only 13 min in, and im already disinterested. im a HUGE silent hill 1/2/3 fan.

If you paid attention to the plot, she's here because her friend, Maya, invited her to the studio. The building itself is the studio and is an infamous suicide spot.
The plot is very on-the-nose but most of what you've described as criticisms actually do get directly addressed by the story of the demo.
Oh please, Heather saw the mall turn into a hellish landscape, didn't bat an eye and decided to go home, via subway, which also then turned into another hellish landscape and she also just went "Hm yes i should just go home, tell my dad and call it a day!" don't be blinded by nostalgia
To even add more on why I don't think you're a super fan of Silent Hill, James finds himself in town, with a letter from her DEAD WIFE, facing monsters every 5 minutes, meeting a doppelgänger of her wife for Christ's sake and is like "Welp! I'm sure Mary is gonna be right there!" no more questions asked
The first Silent Hill game is a man receiving a message from his long dead wife and thinking “hmm maybe I should listen to this and go to the creepy demonic infestation town. Sounds like a great idea!” No one here complaining about how this “isn’t a real SH game” is an actual Silent Hill fan and y’all think we won’t notice 😭

during the chase sequence, that was a nearly 10 min run. you'da thought she'd pass out at the end. and when shes following that candle path and comments on all that art stuff then it vanishes, would that be a nod to the nightmare sequence from Life Is Strange?

Honestly it took until the second half of the game to actually take off, the breakdown in the closet scene gave me major Neon Genesis Evangelion level vibes which i really enoyed.
The only thing ill truely miss about old SH is the religious undertone/ the connection to the cult and the world building that was apart of it.
Alot of horror games became what felt like walk-cutscene simulator thanks in big part to PT and this one definitely fits into that category...but at least it was interesting.

I hate when gameplay forces you to be prey. My instinct is not to run away but to fight it head on. After the second time I was supposed to be chased I quit.

I liked the story and the aesthetics of this game. You can tell they really tried to make a decent story. I wish it had a better game play tho. I am not even talking about fighting, I am talking about Anita needing to hide to recover from all that running or something. Just her running around was not fun, above all when you have a good enemy like Sakura Head.

Let silent hill breath and grow, that’s was re did and it’s better for it. Yes older fans will complain about camera angles and how it’s not re anymore but as games and within lore I think these kind of changes should be welcomed. It helps newer fans give it a try, if you love silent hill so much stop being greedy with it and making it about what you and 39 other farts from the past feel about it and let it scare you and some newer fans. Give it a chance..

The subject matter is ripe for trolling and insensitivity. Largely, the game is up for criticism due to the franchise its attached to and for the lack of its similarity to the material "fans" had come to expect. Turning off comments protects the creator from senseless hate comments targeted at themselves, the game, and other commentors when they argue in its defense. I'm glad to see that this section is still enabled. Props to the creator.
First of a few comments : I’m only 22 mins in and this is almost unbearable … its trying way to hard the hints and child abuse and anxiety it’s really a sad attempt

I don't know why, but it's kinda boring. It does not give me that creepy, eerie, dreadful feeling, When P.T. is launched, it manages to give you that eerie feeling immediately, a sense of dread. The atmosphere is heavy and dark. Then as you play that build up of fear and dread grows very strong, especially when you first encounter Lisa in the bathroom and when you can hear her just behind you all the time. Then as you progress it only escalates.
Why am I comparing this to P.T.? Cause it's I think where Silent Hill really shined, the aspect of psychological horror and all of its elements were put into that demo. So I don't get why some people say "Cause it is designed for younger fans." Haha no, psychological horror has no age bracket, if it scares and disturbed you no matter what your age is, then that's really good. As for the visuals it is good, but does not capture the very dark and heavy atmosphere. The symbols are fine as it is a huge part of the Silent Hill series with the symbols for trauma are monsters. That's my humble and honest analysis of the game. I really hope the Silent Hill 2 Remake does something new for the gameplay aspect, but still manages to creep me the heck out and scare me. And I hope, the legendary Akira Yamaoka once again graces us with his amazing music for the OSTs for the game, or at least a very good remaster.

This game is trigger for people with mental issues. I don't understand why's everyone said that its for/about teenagers. Do you know how many adults suffer from depression and loneliness?
The original SH2 is basically a depression simulator, and that game is for grown ups who don't need a ridiculous warning every 5 minutes.
I think people are definetly being too harsh on this game. Ngl, it surely has its flaws. The story is something already seen but i feel it... hits in the right places. The eerie atmosphere is in place, the music is fantastic (duh), and the narrative flows well enough... However its narrative (considering the fact that, you know, it's called "SILENT HILL") is definetly too explicit. It's not subtle enough. All the best characters in silent hill history are the ones you don't understand that easily. Meanwhile here you have characters that you understand after a couple of minutes. Having the WALLS literally telling you the exact feelings of the main character is not... very silenthillish, ya kno... Imagine if the otherworld of james sunderland was just made up of walls with "i killed her" written all over them. The same goes for the mother's phrases written on the fridges, and maya's bulling experience basically told through shadowy figures and written phrases on her school desk. I feel a silent hill game should narrate the characters' story and feelings through design, through experience, rather than... written walls.
However i think this game is a step in the right direction. It's not perfect, but you can clearly see there's some passion in it. Also, the part in which anita runs in that hellish maze... well that's great. I just wished the game followed that line more. It would have been a true silent hill game

I really liked this up until the end. What a clusterfuck of madness that made no sense to the point it drained all the fun I had out of it. They really fucked up with that part. First person is already so confusing and difficult for me to navigate visually that was so unpleasant. I hope the actual silent hill f game is nothing like this.

Eh, the message they were trying to convey about depression and suicide was interesting enough, but overall it didn’t really fit thematically with the rest of the SH universe. Also, I’m not enjoying how “global” the narrative is becoming. It worked best as a single creepy location, not some sort of spreading otherworldly phenomenon.
idk how this didn't fit the theme of Silent Hill when the protag is literally going through her own personal purgatory and shoving her worst memories into the recesses of her mind to forget about them... almost like what every Protag in the series has done so far?

hmm i don't know how i feel about those live action scenes. that was really weird, not a good weird either. the dubbing was shit and made the voice acting sound worse after i saw it. don't like how straight everything is being told. i always felt silent hill is more abstract metaphors and saying-it-without-saying-it sort of speech. the sticky notes and yelling insults is cringe and overdone at this point. i'm over the "sad teen being bullied like 99.99998% of the world" plot in every single game. like this isnt a smol indie company, try harder. i was excited for SH:F, but i've already seen layers of fear so i'm good on this. the monster is really cool, and its nice that its free, but the storytelling just didnt hit for me.
