Patching: A universe in a grain of sound

  • With modular synthesis, and the joy of patching...sending CV around a system, sometimes the art of playing it as an instrument becomes blurred in the dance of patching modulation everywhere, and relying heavily on generative and random or chaotic gestures.
    Performing manually on a module like Nebulae can be a return to a discovery and performative mindset by finding tiny universes in a grain of sound.

    Can't wait for my (second) Nebulae v2 to get back from repair! Lifetime warranty, free of charge 🫶🏼
    I now have the Neb constantly in use as development of instruments, instead of using it to make music! 😅

      @@QuBitElectronix Check 'Avalon' and 'Mars Affects' in the QU-Bit repository 😉. Also I have worked on 'Realms' of Cinamatic Laboratory 😄

    Nice, this patch could use the Aurora but I guess it wasn’t ready at the time. btw props on using all 4 screws on the modules, it rubs me the wrong way when people don’t do that hahaha.

      Yes, this was pre-Aurora. And we're with you on the screws!

      Yeah, I’m on my fourth tin of Knurlies. But at least the modules stay where I put ‘em…

      Inspiring in an unexpected way. Since I have a data bender I realized that I can do all of this with Borderlands Granular on my iPad! I realize there are other things Nebulae v2 can do that Borderlands can’t, like all the modulation capabilities and v/oct but that can wait awhile😀

      @@bobschrei2029 yes, both Nebulae and Data Bender can be modulation powerhouses for sure!

    Nebulae needs more videos. Next in the case, and I need more inspiration 😅

    This module is wonderful and you have made a very interesting video. How do you load the samples? Greetings from Buenos Aires.

      @@QuBitElectronix I'd love to see that too. There's quite a bit that's not clearly explained in the manual (or even just not mentioned at all) 😉.

    One thing (well one of several) that's not explained clearly in the manual is the use of the Density, Overlap and Window when the Blend knob is turned CCW (in the Phase Vocoder side). In your video, these buttons seem to 'do' something, yet in the manual there's no mention, only in the Grain section with the knob turned CW.
    There might be a difference between 'live mode' and 'file mode' which is the grey area. However, maybe you could explain a little please? BTW, if these knobs don't do anything in the Live Mode, I'm a little surprised.
    Thanks in advance - I asked the same question on the QuBit forum, but nobody seems to respond.

      @QuBitElectronix  Рік тому +1

      Hello! The key here is that Blend behaves differently in Source Mode (what's being used in the video), and Live Mode. In Source Mode, you are able to mix between the phase vocoder and granular engines, where in Live Mode you have separate mixes for each engine, with the dry audio in between the two on the Blend knob. Hope this helps!
